I will bid to game with both hands in IMPs.
-
Between 2N and 2c, I vote for 2c. If pd rebid 2s, I raise to 3S.
-
Pd's 4D is a bit strange. We bid a game, 3N, so there should be a forcing pass here. What does pd have? I think pd rates to have singleton CA and 6card long diamond. i think 4n looks right, though i voted for 5d.
-
I vote for 2H. Though maybe I should pass, but solid suit makes me for 2H.
-
Free, I think you tried too hard. I am sure most of time it wont work out.
-
I think I will pass. It is tempting to dbl to compete, but pd rates to have 5 Hearts, we may not play very well in spade or diamond. More importantly, they may stay at 3H, or bid to 4H and goes down.
-
pd, let's KISS(keep it simple). I dont want to test pd, i dnt want to be tested either. THis is penalty dbl for me.
-
I think I will. 2N should be safe.

The problem is not many ppl have this luxury. Most of us just sit down and play a few. Even you discussed it, sth new will come out and you find it has not been discussed before. I personally dont like 6D. If pd is looking for 7H, Why not bid 5N? 6D is really testing pd. Why bother with it? I think I will bid 6H, looking for a sure plus. If I want to go to 7H, then I will bid 7C on the way, suggesting a place to play. If pd has only three hearts and good club spt. 7C may play better than 7H. Hongjun

Another reason to buy insurance. Pd or I may misdefend it. It is always easier to declare than defend. (Or isnt it?) Hongjun

I vote for 3N, but i dont think this will happen. I am not fearing 2HX make, just think 3N will make and score more. Hongjun Hongjun

Hi whereeagles, you asked a question, and Ben gave you an answer. (A very convincing one IMHO btw.) He is just trying to explain at his best (which is, as usual, VERY good) why he thinks this way is best. Nobody forces you to follow his advice. Bridge is a free game. :D (Yeah I know, not really, the law book is pretty thick  ) In another strategy game, where I could consider myself much closer to expert status than in bridge, I learnt after many years that you can always learn something from stronger players, however odd their advice seems to be. You learn how they think, and even if you don't follow their recommended move/bid, you can benefit from this. No need to get personal here -- you asked for advice, and you got one. Now it's up to you what to do with it. Are we all happy now? :) Arend Well said. Though I still think 3N is not that bad, but Ben has his point(as always). More importantly, he spent time explaining all the details and thoughts go through his mind. I really hope this discussion focus on logic and nothing personall involved. I learned a lot from Ben. Though I still have different opinion about this hand, I respect very much Ben's input here. His patience/interlligence deserves all our's respect. HOngjun

My duty is to make a bid that is descriptive and that partner will understand. I don't see what's wrong with that. What is wrong with it? You played in 4♠ with this pair of hands.... [hv=w=sjtxhktxxdkjxxckx&e=sakqxxhxdaxxcaqxx]266|100|[/hv] Now if we converted this to assess the blame question question, I would come down very hard on you. Ben, I think 3N is a very nice bid, it perfectly draws the picture. Pd should be able to make a smart decision from 3N. I wont blame 3N, rather, I would say 4S is a very bad call. Hongjun

I think both 3C and 4C are wrong, but 4C has more problem.
-
pass, 2c and 3N told all my story. Pd decides to play 4s. I agree.
-
I will pass. Pd doesnt have h stacks and neither he has spade.
-
MP I pass. We have 22-24. No need to try game too hard in MP. Playing in D scores more only if you can make 4D and you can make only 1N. I pass. Hongjun
-
Yes, I think this has to be the shape.
-
This has to be splinter for Club. I cant imagine other cases after a limit 2H rebid. Hongjun
-
Keep S2. Declarer is helpless.
-
with the second hand, if you find out pd has 4card heart, u may consider 4H as well. Most table will bid 3N. So 4H might win out.
-
This is a major problem, i prefer to bid 3nt with 14 hcp and not waste this bid for 18-19 which is rare, but im sure there are better solutions to this, you have 2d/2h/2s and we can use them to solve this problem. As Mike said, 1d-2c is the black sheep of 2/1.
-
Even with 4432, 18-19hcp, u still bid 3N. If pd has major, then he must have opening strength and he can bid it at 4 level. with 12-14hcp, you can rebid 2N. If you think you have good 14hcp then open 1N, dont open 1m.

Jimmy, if this is right play, then HJ first would be right as well. My plan is to finesse Hj in 2nd round. If LHO cover, then I cover with Ace. Cashing all spades. This will exercise some pressure on def and may give me enough info on the play of Diamond.

Mike Lawrence's 2/1 workbook has a page about KOkish 1D-2C. With balanced 18-19hcp, I think you bid 3N over 2c.
