Guess most would open 1N with XXX, AKXX, AKJX, XX, coz if u dont open 1N, then u have a rebid problem. However here u dont have rebid problem. if pd respond 1M, u can raise to 2s or 3H. This is my thought so I open 1C. The auction continues: 1C 1D 1H 3N pd has S: QX H: QJ D: AJ9XXX C: QXX unfortunately opening leader has 5s and we r down one. If I open 1N, then LHO has sAKX and he is less likely to lead from it. Does this prove 1C wrong?

I would simply play 2. Playing DJ is tricky if RHO is a good player, coz he know u may play DJ from j2. On the otherhand, if u have k2, then u r forced to play 2. bad false card is worse than no false card. Just my two cents. Hongjun

Ben, I think first pass is right. He cant dbl with 3club and 4heart. It is ok only if dbl promises 4heart only. I think dbl with this hand is losing bridge in long run. With this hand, after 3D, he shld pass or bid 3H. Pushing up one level is a big achievement. This is MP, -110 is much better than -590. The second dbl has to be penality as u said, so I think the sin is the 2nd dbl. Hongjun

this hand looks like good enough for a game, i bid 2c and plan to bid game.

even h finesse is on, u still have only 3s,3h,3c, so u still need 3d. The best line is to play toward hand twice finessing d jack I think.

Dbl should be ok. I am not worrying too much opp will get me. many good things can happen. Pd can pass, i have two aces, and a potential ruff in c. If pd bid 3N, i will pass happily. My d suit is running quite rightly, my sjack is a good card for 3N. if pd bid 4c, i will try 4d, then pd may get to 4H.

2s. pass is horrible in 2/1. you can pass only if u r dead min. with this hand it is still possible u have a game. hongjun

I think in this situation dbl is still asking pd to lead his longest suit. Bidding 3S doesnt mean he is going to lead it. pd may bid 3s with kj9xxxx, why he has to lead it if no dbl? If you bid 3s, then dbl should have different implication, i.e. pls dont lead s. just my two cents hongjun

ron, why this shows 4441 with singleton H? if that is the case, wouldnt pd open 1D? I think 5431 is almost certain in this sequence. The only problem is that you are not sure to bid 3N,5c or 6c now. Hongjun

3S, given my 1N, my hand now is pretty good. since you r short in pd's first suit, 4-3 trump should be ok. 3S should imply that you dont mind pd explore for slam. what 4s would mean here?

2N is natural. Not sure 3S is limited raise here.

With this hand, pd perhaps can cue 4H? or 5C? 3S is undiscussed, so I took it as cue, at least stopper, the logic is if pd has no spade stopper, then after 3D, he should bid 4C showing c card.(it is impossible he has neither s nor c honour card)
