  1. Would you really make a natural overcall of 2♥ on four hearts to the 10? Your bid would be 2♣ and by the time your partner gets to bid, the bidding will be at 4♠, so he has no chance to overcall 2♥ on his lovely ♥suit. Oops, sry, i misread the hand. appologize to ron. btw, can anyone tell me how to cancel a post i posted? Many thanks in advance. fly
  2. Dealer: E Vul: NS W N E S ----- 2H ? S: QJT8XX H: Q D: J C: KQ9XX
  3. This hand has nothing to do with raptor, a natural overcall of 2H will reach same contract most of the time. whether raptor is a good convention is another issue.
  4. Dealer: N Vul.: None W N E S -- P 3S ? S: XX H: AQ963 D: AX C: KQXX WHAT DO U BID?
  5. What 4D should mean here? Perhaps we can play it as a modified leaping michael? I admit pd may pass it, but i really dont want to give up on spade. bidding 5d is putting all eggs in one basket.
  6. I will dbl first, then bid my diamond.
  7. If the rumor is true, I hope Mike reconsider his decision too. I learn a lot from BBO, especially from mike and ben. I really like abalucy and appreciate mike and abadaba's efforts, though I could not attend too much games organized by abalucy, due to my study and time difference. FLy
  8. Vul: NS Dealer: N W N E S -- P 1S 2C 2S 3C 3S 3N S: XX H: KXXX D: AXXX C: J8X S: AJX H: A D: T9X C: AKT9XX OPENING LEAD: S2, EAST PRODUCED SK. WHAT IS THE BEST PERCENTAGE PLAY?
  9. seems u can always set up a c trick as the card lies. but rho should never throw c. why does he keep so many d?
  10. This was the doubler's hand: [hv=v=n&s=saq9xxhxdkqjtxcax]133|100|Scoring: IMP[/hv] The auction went ...1NT - all pass. +4, +210. Double is wrong imho, he should bid 1s.
  11. A side issue here. Is 1S-2S-3S really weak? I think marshall miles mentioned somewhere in his book about the difference between 1s-2s-3s and 1h-2h-3h. You can play 1h-2h-3h as weak, as opp may balance and force u to bid 3h over 2s or 3m anyway. But holding spade suit, you can always overbid them in three level if you think it is right. SO perhaps 1s-2s-3s should be treated as trump invitation, which would be perfect here.
  12. Are 1C and 1D natural? Pd's 1S seems wierd. He must have a very offensive hand with good s suit. I would bid 1N now. This 1N should show some strength.
  13. I am not sure at all that 3nt here is better then 3d. but just in case put the A of clubs in spades instead. Even put the club ace in spade suit and you have not club stopper, with this hand 3N is still a much better bid in long run. Yes, you may lose 13 tricks. But as 3N is the most likely game and with such a strong hand without major suit, you should try to bid 3N. This decision is somewhat related to the vul., though. As when Opp are green, 3C can be very broke suit, but when they are red, 3C can be akqxxx.
  14. I thnk it should be invitational. Cant imagine a hand with slam interest but without control. If pd has slam interest in D, he can always cuebid Major first and then return to D. This sequence always show slam interest. After Opp's preempt, you dont have so much space for slam biddding. It mainly rely on judgement rather than science. With pd's hand as you gave above. He should bid 3H, if pd raise to 4H, then you will return to 5D. This clearly shows you are interested in slam but without club control.
  15. This is a good example for not support doubles. Unlucky and slightly ambitious. 3♣ severely limited partner's ability to participate meaningfully in later competitive decisions. 3H should be gf and showing real suit, isnot it? Regarding spt dbl, I like it. I think this hand doesnt prove we should give up spt dbl. Whatever you play, you will always have problem with this hand. Without spt dbl, you have to pass 2D, which gives even less information. FLy
  16. First, Dbl is agreed playes as spt dbl. So pd is simply showing 3card spade raise. Second, I agree that 3C is bad bid. i thought it is same as in sequence 1C-1M-2M-3C. After 3D, I reevaluate the hand, and though pd should have no waste in D, so I jump to 5C. This turns out to be too ambitious. Pd's Hand: S: QXX H: ATX D: XXX C: AK9X Unfortuantely, SK is behind SQ, so we are down 1. Note that we can beat 3D by two tricks. So dbl here would be winning decision. AM I too unlucky or I judge it badly after 3D?
  17. Vul: None Dealer: W W N E S P 1C P 1S 2D X P 3C P P 3D ? your hand: S: A98X H: KJ9 D: X C: QJTXX Q1: is 3C right? Q2: after 3d, what do you bid?
  18. I think this is the key, because you can tolerate with d, quite comfort with it actually. Suppose it continues: W N E S -------- P P 1D P 1S 2C P P X P 2S 3C ? WHAT DO YOU BID NOW?
  19. A question regardng dbl. If dbl is takeout, likely a hand with 5s4h, then what 2h should mean? Does it promise 5card H?
  20. Hehe, Free, even you put a gun at my head I wont open it:)
  21. vul: both you hold: S: AKT72 H: Q842 D: 753 C: 7 W N E S -- - - P P 1D P 1S 2C P P ? without much discussion about the details, only agreed to play 2/1, do you dbl or bid 2H?
  22. I will try 5H. I may go down if pd's suit is worse than qjtxxxx, but i think it worths to take this risk. As for the second hand, 6N seems a reasonable gamble. The RHO will have to lead, rather than the opener. This reduce the chances of cashing two quick tricks, if any.
  23. Ben, if you are happy with 3N, then you should consider 4H. Fly
  24. passsssssss. all are soft values. opps wont have game. what is the point to push?
  25. Yes, so 3N is the only right bid in my opinion. with a slammish hand, cuebid if you have any control, without control but still want to try slam, bid 4D. After south 3N, North still will try 4N to invite and south should reject and play there. I agree with 3♥ by south being an overbid. Just bid 3 NT. Mike :D So you will want to play 3NT when pd has: AQJxx xx AKxx xx Down 2 on a heart lead. You win 4s. Or: Axxxx x AKxx Axx Down 3 but this time you only win 6d, don't worry. mmmmm..... Accident may happen with the first hand, but definitely not with the second hand. 3N is only a suggestion to play. with the second hand you gave, pd will jump to 3H, showing d spt with heart singleton.
