  1. I am a bit worried 2C is overloaded. So my opinion is better to use 2C showing: a) gf with natural suit B) 8+ -11- 3 card trump spt. Showing B) via 2C enable opener to evaluate the game prospectus and hence stop in 2M or bid game. This is relatively simple and I really like it. On the other hand, if 2c includes all gf hand, then there must be a captain and info receiver. I wonder if anybody studied Italian players' 1M-2C structure. I think their structure shld be pretty good.
  2. I'd have taken the lead with the sK and play the s9 inmediately, covered. Since the 8 doesn't drop I'd have taken a finesse in clubs flotaing the 8, take the return and cash the 3 hearts and AK of diamonds, the Q of diamonds doesn't drop then another club finesse for down 1. hehe, i play this line too.
  3. Steve, I would like to join, but I feel not very comfortable with the possible timing of the tourney. I joined Abalucy club but managed to attend twice only, coz most of tourney are held in midnight time for players from europe. I hope you guys can take this into account. Thanks very much. hongjun
  4. A word of caution here, Hongjun. You should only make a penalty-oriented redouble on a hand where you have at least modest interest in making a penalty double of their run out. If your hand is offensively oriented, and not suited to leaving an invited penalty double in if partner does double, then don't make the redouble in the first place. This means that your conclusion that playing penalty-oriented redoubles, all non-redoubles hsow less than 10 hcp is incorrect. ben Yes, then the continuation is even more important after xfer. 1) shld opener always accepte xfer? or xfer implies a fit? 2) how opener to show extra value when responder may have very wild range for his xfer?
  5. I think when you consider about transfer advances, the more important question is the continuation after xfer. What opener shld do with or without fit? with or without extra value? Who is the info sender and receiver. How much is the min for a xfer? When not to use a xfer? If Rdbl is still used for any penalty-oriented hand, then xfer shld show less than 10hcp.
  6. he wont, dummy left with akqx, u have t9 at hand.
  7. Aha, I missed the point. I thought the opener has da and hence think RHO must have ca. Now it is clear opener has ca. Ok, let me try one more time. take HA, ruff hx back, lead cx toward dummy. whether LHO take ca or not, strip h and ruff one round d, discarding d on hk. then c throw out. RHO will be endplayed.
  8. Ben, this looks like an extensoin of the two way checkback, which applies only when opener rebid 1N. Here opener may rebid new suit or the opening suit. right?
  9. I just cannot agree more. To win or to lose is not decided by those hands. I think great players have far better judgement and table sense, and solid defensive and declaring skills.
  10. Hehe, you are right. i will come back to u later:)
  11. u r right. he can throw out with a heart. so let's play opener with 0463. discarding cx from hand, and striping d and h, lead cx to dummy.
  12. Take HA in dummy, cashing sa. cashing hk, discarding dx from hand, ruffing h back to hand, ruffing dx in dummy, then lead hx from dummy, ruff with sT. Lead cx to dummy, if LHO play small, play small from dummy too. Opener's hand shld be sth like: S;- H:JXX D:AKQXXXX C:QXX
  13. Hehe, I once met an cunning guy. We bid 6M and he dbled. It is cold, after a few rounds card played, my pd claimed mk. But this guy rejected, then he claimed down 1. MY pd thought this guy claimed make and accepted. :) Then he asked me, why it is down one? Hehe.
  14. I would say after RHO's 2H, it is nothing wrong to bid 4N, you have all kings. All you want to know is how much aces pd has. Whatever you bid now, you will finally bid 4N, arent you? I agree 4N is abused(not overused), but this hand is just perfect for that.
  15. Yes, 2S underbid, 3S overbid. This is the problem.
  16. Both Vul, Dealer: South. Holding: S: KQX H: KQTXXX D: KQX C: X W N E S 1H P 1S - ? Note: you dont play flannery, so 1S promise only 4+ card.
  17. Hehe, Ben, still remember that hand I raised to 3N after your unusual 2NT? here my hand is: S: AXX H: KTX D: QT9XXX C: X pd did bid 2N. Thinking 3N is the most like game and pd has minors, I raise pd's unusual 2N to 3N. 4H seems easy to make. So 2N after 1S-p-2S-? is two suiter. Is it same after 1H-p-2H-? or 2N over 2H defines minor two suiter? Another hand in the biginner/experts tourney: S; QJXXXX H: QJXXX D: X C: X After 1c-p-1d-? Is 2N showing this hand? what about 1N and DBL? a) 1C-P-1D-2N 2N=? :) 1C-P-1D-1N 1N=? C) 1C-P-1D-DBL DBL=? suppose 1C AND 1D are natural
  18. Vul vs not, you hold: S: X H: QJXXX D: XX C: AKXXX Auction goes: W N E S 1S P 2S ?
  19. I think some discussions didnt hit the point. I agree I will open this hand(I am relatively a sound opener), but this post is really about psychic bidding. Even though you will avoid this problem for sure with this hand if you open it, you still will face other psychic bidding problem when you hold another hand. I posted a similar question about when we should psych and what to psych and how to explore opp's possible psych. Unfortunately not much discussion about it. I think this is rather difficult in a very intensive competition when you put all your effort into bidding and play. It is just like in defense, there maybe a way, but you just could not imagine it.
  20. Dont think this suit suffice a self-spt splinter, which should show at least kqjtxxx
  21. yes, i agree. Dbl keeps all options open.
  22. Ben, I did propose 4D in my post, though I would not bid it with pick-up pd. I agree with you that 4H shold be treated as some distributional raise. Also, on the hand the auction went 1H-2H-3H-?, 4H doesnt promise control in H, imho. I think it just shows I have enough to bid 4S, but my hand is not based on shape, rather on high cards. I think pd should bid more than 4S. The best is to bid his minor.
  23. I think I will pass. 5C may be right. IF pd's minor is c, 6 shld be makeable, but if pd's minor is d, you have 5 at most.
  24. HI,Misho, can you send me a copy too? I want to do some preparation work to play against you next time:) my email is flytoox_2000@yahoo.com Thanks very much in advance. fly
