  1. In the 12th WBO bulletin, there are a few hands about multi 2D which includes strong 4441 hand. Check this out.
  2. Would not you start with stayman then bid 3c? Or Do you play minor xfer then major suit bid as natural not short? Thanks.
  3. I'd say if your bidding starts: 1♣ 2♣ (inverted minor- natural and forcing) 3♥ (Maximum with 4 hearts and 4+ clubs) You aren't going to have much trouble getting there. Suppose you hear pd open 1N. Can you construct a convincing way to reach 7N with all natural but logical bid? Many thanks. Hongjun
  4. Ben, I would nominate you as commentator if I could. When I was watching the match bet Hongkong and Italy, when the HK pair defended brilliantly by falsing card and calm ducking which finally lead Versace to down one in that otherwise cold 3N, no single commentator pointed it out that how good that def. I think they are not concentrating on the match sometimes, though I understand them.
  5. Dealer: North North: S: AXX H: AKX D: QXX C: QJXX South: S: X H: QJXX D: AKX C: AKTXX
  6. Dealer:N Vul: EW sitting south, you hold: S: K H: KXXXX D: QX C: QXXXX PD open 2N, what is ur plan? suppose u play xfer, but no further agreement.
  7. Havent heard about this book. Is it a newly published one? I just bought Marshall Mile's duplicate bridge and Mollo's card play technique from a 2nd hand bookshop. It costed me only 3.5 pounds in total. Hope they have more bridge books:)
  8. I think 2c here goes a bit far. I would painfully bid 1N. I dont think the chance that pd raise to 3N is much. I dont have much worry other this. SO i will go with 1N.
  9. I think you are a bit biased. If I am right, Mike Lawrence said x shows 4 and 1s shows 5 is the majority in expert circle. From the logic perspective, isnt it findig the spade fit the most important thing in contested auction? Isnt it a lot helpful if u know pd have 4 or 5+spade if you need to make the decision at the three level? We all dont mind to raise to 2 with 3card in contested auction, but 3 level is another story. I agree that playing x denies spade has its merit, but definitely not so much as u claimed.
  10. Cant agree more. wonder what is more can be said about this hand, couldnt find.
  11. 2H, stiff SK doesn't look great and minor suits unsupported Qxx are also rather negative. Give partner SAxxxx Hxx DAxx Cxxx(very decent hand), you need a trump lead or spade lead with trump 3-2, DK on side to make 4H. If opp leads D from DK, you still nedd trump 3-2; if opp leads diamond from Dxxxx, you need CAK on side.... if opps lead a low club, you are probably dead, if opps lead A from CAK, you still need DK on side and trump 3-2....so it really doesn't produce a good game facing a rather decent dummy and sometimes, partner may raise you to 4H with even weak hands. For example, he might have SAJxxx Hxx DKxx Cxxx, you are even worse placed. I think this shows why 2N is better than 3H. 3N is cold with ur 1st hand, close with the 2nd hand.
  12. pass the first one, -2 will not be too bad. opp's 3S should be cold. with the second hand, I will pull to 4C. Let's make sure we get a plus.
  13. I would take it as reverese if i were ur pd,hehe.
  14. why 2h+1 is so good for them? dont they have some play in 3N?
  15. Another thing, if you play 1c=17+, then why not play 14-16 NT or 12-14NT and NT rebid showing 15-16, just like Acol? This may be more accurate and you dont need to hide five card major in this case.
  16. I like this idea. However, I think you need some relay structure with 4M 5c hand. Did you refer to Hammon's notes and do you have more natural structure?
  17. with this hand I will dbl first, if pd jump to 4S i may regret. If vul. is red vs white, I would prefer jump overcall to show this kind hand. When should you dbl then bid ur suit? I think the most important is not overall highcard but ur playing strength. This hand has too good playing strength to overcall. If heart is AJxxxx and the whole hand is x, AJxxxx, KQx, AKx, then I will start with a overcall.
  18. pass, exaggerate ur strength twice is not a good idea. If u bid 2S, either pd will dbl 3H, which probably will make, or you will bid to game and goes down. This is the problem with light opening.
  19. This is an interesting choice. Do you bid 5D for lead directing or 5C for further competition? I vote for 5C. I am not sure I want to ruff with doubleton SQJ. Better to tell pd where my strength is. Hongjun
  20. 2D is gf, so jump to 3N should show about 15-17, unbalanced hand. Pd's 4C is slammish, but you have only 3 club, so I think at this moment you should bid 4H or 4N. Whether bid 6h/6n should leave to Pd. I would never stop at 6C. Pd responded s first, so he rates to have 4clubs only. If he has five, he may splinter in D or cuebid it on the way.
  21. If you didnt start with sq, now it is time. Declarer rates to have HKJ, DAJ. He has enough tricks left to his own. He has five diamond, and his heart wont be short. He is likely to have singleton or void spade. It is time to trick declarer, lead SQ, if declare ducks, continue ST,9.
  22. Though I will bid 3N, dbl is not that bad choice.
