Yes, dbl is penalty. What I mean is that we should believe ourself. You dbl coz u think u can defeat them. So u should not change ur mind just because opp rdbl. Regarding Ben's idea of dbling 4C, i dont think that is a good idea. Dbl will make pd to lead ur club suit, which you dont want. I think I would not dbl 4S, but once I dbled and got rdbled, I will leave it.

pass and lead trump. If you retreat why dbl then? let's be consistent
-
Bid 4C, it is possible pd have dk and h ace. If pd retreat to 4S, then pass.
-
Balance with this kind hand is very dangerous. I would pass with it. Yes pd has 4 hearts most of the time, the problem is that this 4-3 fit wont play well.

How to bid this hand with natural bid?
flytoox replied to flytoox's topic in Natural Bidding Discussion
No, it can be. This is not a hand I made, it was a hand I played on BBO. -
This is impossbile in the context. Note that RHO overcalled 1N.

strong 2 suiter hand
flytoox replied to Flame's topic in General Bridge Discussion (not BBO-specific)
Jimmy, if you consider 1s, then why not 1D? Pd is likely to pass 1S, but less likely to pass 1D. For pd, 1S is very preemtive here, so I would rather go with 2C. This really didnt take much space in the 1st round but will save a lot space in later round. -
Perhaps you can play some throw-in if west overtakes ST. Not perfect endplay, only partial here I think.
-
The heart high card location doesnt look good. Leading trump here wont help. so you should look elsewhere. Club is a possibility. Dummy rates to have high card in club and if you underlead from ace, declarer will misguess often than not. Diamond is another possiblity. Pd has got some cards, but he was very quiet during the auction, why? Pd could have some diamond cards. My entry is very limited. I must use my opening lead chance to play through the dummy. I will lead a small diamond, hoping we could get our diamond tricks before they force out pd's heart control.
-
would be ideal if i could get pd to bid 4H. Here I would bid 4H hoping club finesse is good enough.
-
Are you sure we dont need to find HQ? you have 2 spade and one diamond losers. There is no throw-in. I think I will duck ST and see what is going on. If RHO could not continue spade, he rates to have singleton spade and I will play him for HQ.

If dbl is a 'lead-ur-suit'dbl, then I will put it on.
-
I open 1C, and rebid 3C after 2H intervention. This hand is actually very good. 4C would never occur to me. Not 3N either.

Example why I hate regular 2/1
flytoox replied to pclayton's topic in General Bridge Discussion (not BBO-specific)
Hehe, is pd jumping shift with 63 d and c? not impossible. I think 4C is a bit rush, perhaps 3H waiting would be better. I think I will bid 5D. If pd has real diamond suit, then this should plays better than 5C. If pd has real club suit, then 4D should imply slam interest. In that case 5D shows a high card and he may bid 6C. Both suits me well. -
Very tough, but I will dbl. LHO passed 1st round, this makes my dbl slightly safer. On the other hand, pd passed as well. He didnt preempt. So at most he has 5 card spade, or even less. His shape wont be too good. So he is more likely to pass rather than bid. This suits you well, as you have good def. cards. Even if he bids 4S, you can make it if pd has spade ace and one of club high card.
-
Dbl in the previous round is very dangerous. Both LHO and RHO could have extra strength. After 2D, dbl is relatively safe.

Example why I hate regular 2/1
flytoox replied to pclayton's topic in General Bridge Discussion (not BBO-specific)
I would say this is not that diffiuclt, let alone to say this is the weakness of 2/1. Just bid 3H, pass pd's 3N, raise 3S to 4S, otherwise bid 5C. -
I vote for 5c. pd doesnt have 55 majors, he is short in d, so he rates to have somoe clubs. I dont want to play possible 43 fit 3s or 4s, cos the hand with long spade have to ruff diamond.
-
I vote for 2S. Pd seems to have 4414, with h and c two suiter, he should act earlier.
-
This should theoretically ask you to bid 6 with one spade honour. I think you should pass. If u missed a slam, ask ur pd to buy u a meal. u deserve it.

2D-pass-pass-2H pass-4H all pass With a stronger hand, South could have jump-bid 3H, so N does not need a cue, no real slam ambitions. I 'd rather take advantage of this to ask the following: 2D-pass-pass-2H pass-? Now, would North's 2NT be: 1) a good/bad raise, 2) a Lebensohl-like relay (e.g. keeping open a rescue to 3m, and not necessarily guaranteeing H fit, as good-bad NT would guarantee) 3) natural 4) or what ? I think in this case, playing 2N as gf is very sensible, otherwise just pass.
-
bid minor should be safe here. dont worry pd will bid 2S. he can bid it directly in the 4th seat.

two days or one day event is good as well. Oxford would be nice:)
