THere are just too many hands you want to play in minors or in 4H but pd will pass if you bid a simple 2H. If pd has: QXXX KX XX QJXXX you want to be in 4H, or 6C. But pd will pass your 2H. Or shouldnt he? If pd has QXXX X QXXXXX AX you want to be in 6/7D, but pd will pass your 2H. If pd has QXXX X XX AQXXXX you want to be in 6/7C, but pd will again pass your 2H. Even pd has QXXX XXXX XX XXX you still want to be in game. There are so many hands pd will pass your 2H.

1N, horrible, but no choice. If I have CA, I may pass it.
-
I think the lead is CK, rather than C Ten, from Kx of clubs. Pd played C Ten encourage.
-
You know pd is likely to pass, and still you just overcall 2H. So you want to blame for his pass. What is wrong with dbl? Why cannt you dbl with 6Hearts?
-
Pd cannt have 1444 17HCP hand in this sequence. ONly if you think ur pd or opp psyched. Or misclicked if played on BBO.

Bridge bidding can can/should be modeled as a multi-stage game. The set of available bids and definition of the available bids is contingent on earlier stages of the game. You are completely correct that the specific meaningss of bids during earliier stages of the game do not change based on my current bid. However, my choice of bids this round will very much impact future bids by the opponents. As a simple illustration, the entire problem can be considered as equivilent to output choices in a Stackelberg Equilibrium... Not quite same as Stackleberg problem. Here you really dont know if you will be the leader or follower. Also, in the stackleberg problem, there is credible committment. And you are not punished by being aggressive. However, in competitive bidding, you are very likely to be punished by overbid. THe area I think mixed strategy applies most is falsecard. Say throw 9 from T9x. The reason why this kind false card is always effective is that declarer cannt be sure if you are falsecard or playing honestly. I definitely agree with you that game theory concept can be used in bridge. But I dont think this is the right occasion.
-
Mixed strategy is right only if the EXPECTED payoff is the same RIght. still, here how can you have a mixed strategy? Strictly speaking, this is a decision makig problem. There is no strategic interaction here. Cos so far pd and opp's decicision didnt rely on your bid of, from pass to 5H.
-
More important lesson, dont self-raise uncessarly. why not pass 2Hx? west is endplayed there. YOu r waiting with your red card.
-
mixed strategy is right only if the payoff to all these bids are same. This is impossible in the given sequence.
-
pass, pd has heart tricks, you have club tricks and spade. couldnot be better. you may even collect 500 or 800.

what the line to play this slam?
flytoox replied to happybridge's topic in Intermediate and Advanced Bridge Discussion
I think I will finesse DQ, ruff Dx, and playing out all trumps. It is better to duck SK in the 1st round, but I am not sure now as RHO playes the Ten, he could have a singleton. -
why HJ finesse must succeed?
-
4H is very wrong, RHO didnt raise spade. This is a very dangerous sign. If RHO raise to 2S, then pd rates to have singleton and I will bid 4H as well. Here RHO passed, so I will pass too. If there is some balance, I will bid 3H later, but not now. YOu can imagine def starts with spade lead, and you lose three spade tricks quickly. It is even possible they have a trump uppercut.
-
This has no solution. waht 4N shoudl be? I think 4N is a good choice, if pd respond 5x, then he thought it is rkc, then we can find out how many key card pd has. If he pass or raise to 6n, good, i dont mind. So I vote for 4N. A new convention called fly-to-heaven-or-hell ambiguous 4N asking bid :(
-
I think so, esp if opp are red. You really dont want to play in 2N. Either you upgrade to bid 3N, if you think your hand is good for declarer play. Or you dbl 2S to punish them. 2N as natural here is not very useful I think, though I never try it in this scequence.
-
I dont see the point to play dbl as takeout here.
-
1. Pd is more likely to have doulbeton rather than singleton. 2. I think pd is correct to compete with 3H. With the better hand you gave, I would also bid 4H. Contested auction is so different from uncontested auction. You are fighting for partscore most of time, game is unusual, slam is exceptional. I wouldnot mind missing that slam.
-
pass, coz pd passed the firt round. Otherwise, I would venture a dbl.

Simple MP lead Q
flytoox replied to Deanrover's topic in Intermediate and Advanced Bridge Discussion
Mp I lead SJ. Pd coudl have 5card spade suit, as least this lead wont cost much. -
dont worry about club then? pd is marked with singleton. I would prefer 5D here.
-
Let's do some hand evaluation here. Is your hand really good? NO. opp has broke spade suit, which means they have lots of card in minors. Should you be in game? No, you have too many holes in minors. If you change thehand to: S:XXXX H:KJX D:AXX C:QJX then you may want to go to game. Further your hand is too balanced, you cannt ruff. change your hand to: S:JTXX H:KJX D:AXX C:QXX I would agree with those 3N bidder. Is 2S passed out that bad? No, if pd couldnot reopen, it is fine. You really dont mind defend 2S.
-
This shows how correct pass is.
-
Interesting no pass as an option. I think I will pass, expecting pd to reopen. I dont think this hand is that good. Too much holes in minors. I dont think you have a game here. The best is to punish them. At most, I will bid 3H, but unwillingly. any four level cue or 4H is just too much.
-
Good hand, but doubleton d is ur weakness. perhaps conservative is better here. you need pd to have sak and hak to make it, as h finesse seems due to fail.
-
I think natural but not extra, 2c has already limited your strength.
