  1. my unwilling guess, 5H is asking about trump quality.
  2. I think if you plan to bid 6, then just shot it rather than cuebid H first. At least you have 50% chance to get a d lead. But with good opp they may suspect your unusual move.
  3. Let me try. Winning the lead at hand, cashing ck, ha,k, h ruffing back, cashing caq, discarding d from dummy. then cashing DK, if LHO ruff, overruff, then h ruff back, s9 ruff.
  4. Ron, with this hand, Pd would bid 3S, showing shape and good H raise. 2S should show more like a balance raise, like 5422. Anyway, my point is that try not to test pd whenever possible. Here pd jump from 2N to 5H, that takes so much space which he could use to explore the slam possiblity. That is why I say a world class pd shoudl not use such bid.
  5. Declarer is suspicous here. He bid 5H, denying D control, then after pd's 5S, he still bid slam. I think he is probably making a tactical bid here. H is his open suit, and he has s and d two suiter. So I agree with Jimmy that I will lead H.
  6. My personal opinion, world class player will not make such bid:) He will do it slowly to let pd to know what is goign on, he will not let pd to make a headache guess.
  7. If you are ldeading from Txx, and declarer has Ax, then ducking the queen is actually the right play. I am not saying pd's play is necessary correct. What I mean here is that when you decide to trick the declarer, you also have to consider pd will be tricked as well.
  8. But 2H waiting, playing 2/1 *does not deny* extras. The extra showing bid is not only meant to show the extra, but also to show honors concentration. Bidding 2H now you can still show extras later, if you have them. Here, the hand is non-minimum but nothing to be proud of, with singleton in pard's suit: a waiting bid is enough, not denying extras, and not showing a mediocre spade suit. If pard's rebid will show soething else, the hand can still drive to slam (especially if we find non-club fit), but opposite a 2C response, right now there is no room for reevaluation of the hand, with potentially lots of wastage in clubs in resoponder's hand. Point count is not the key to 2/1 rebid, but rather concenbtration of honors and showing key features, and right now the hand has not any feature which seem to be worth showing (I wd not call a QTxx suit as a feature to show :) ). That Rebid 2H doesnt deny extra doesnt mean you should rebid 2H. Rebiding 2H should be avoided whenever possible. Here it is possible. In 2/1, rebidding your major after pd's 2/1 response is kind of catch-all bid. So you should avoid it whenever possible. Here you have good hand, not only high card points, but good control. So bid 2s. As you mentioned, I also follow mike lawrence's advice. I believe he will rebid 2S not 2H.
  9. Take a doctoral course in sqz. Reading list: Kelsey on sqz plaly.
  10. I think you need to take this into account when underlead from A. Dummy is weak in this case, and declare is strong, so pd has his reason to duck his queen. If dummy is strong, then underlead from ace is a good idea.
  11. playing 2/1, 2s shows extra, that is what i want to tell pd. So 2S is my bid. It is reverse, but not confined to 16+, but good 14+.
  12. 1♥ ... Why not pass this hand? 1H is misleading. If pd could open or overcall, you are well placed. Pass, is also called a BID.
  13. Agree that north is chicken, but I think if 3H by agreement shows min, then south shoud pass 3H, at least that is what i would do. On the other hand, I think most ppl dont use UI even if it is there. At least there is no time I realize its existence when I play.
  14. Most players have problem with counting up to 13. So any counting system which needs to count more than 13 is due to fail. Take Zar for example, it may be a good point counting system, but ppl will have problem count it.
  15. What do you mean ? can you give an example ? This is because not every time you will have both odd/even cards to discard. For example, if you got only odd cards, but playing any odd cards would convey prefernce or encouragement info. according to your agreement, then playing an odd card slowly will show some extra information.
  16. Glad to see I disagree with everybody else on the planet. Again. x AQJx AKxx Axxx X should be takeout, so you know your partner's going to bid some number of spades. 3NT is silly. If you pass, you'll probably set it, but not by much. What would you bid? I think you should expect partner to be 5♦ and 4♥, but there are 4-4 hands that have no other rebid. If you play negative dbl, then perhaps you should pass with this hand. Pd didnt dbl with apparent short club, he didnt raise your diamond either. Why didnt he dbl? Only answer is he has a broke hand so you may pass as well rather than venture 3H with 4441.
  17. I am not sure this is the case. With odd/even discard, there are lots of ethical problems. On the other hand, nothign can replace counting, counting and logical analysis.
  18. hidden button is not working? hehe, never mind, i may be wrong.
  19. I am a huge fan of Fred's commentating. His analysis is very illuminating. His logic is simple, straightforward. Rosenberg is very deep analyst, sometimes hard to follow, perhaps simply becase he is thinking too fast.
  20. I think the only "natural" opening bid with north in the context of 2/1 or SAYC (where this hand is posted), is an opening bid of 1NT. South is clearly thinking slam after a 1NT opening bid, and I see no reason not to bid naturally, show the ♣ suit with 2♠ (transfer) and then do whatever you do over openers rebid. If you show "short suits", show short spades (most typical). IF this was matchpoints, you would have start wtih stayman perhaps... but here I would go.... !N - 2S 2N - 3S <<--- now no wasted values in spades, grand slam is not out of the question, but the rest is up to the partnership... but I would continue with a 4♥ cue bid.. (or cute bid.. as I almost typed). Ben Ben, dont you bid stayman first, say 1n--2c 2d--3c?
  21. Inverted minor is fine, but what if pd opens 1N?
  22. Ben, if you can, try to keep it, though i didnt vote. But it will be good for the forum. hopefully more good hands will come:)
