The problem is, will he get the chance to play 3N?
-
Jimmy, if we play negative dbl, then pd is unlikely to have spade.
-
Dealer: East Vul.: None sitting south, ur hand: S: KQXX H: -- D: KQ98X C: AQXX W N E S ----- P 1D 1H 1N P ? What do you call here?
-
I think vul. here is important. If we r red, pass is better. If they are red, try a dbl. The good thing about dbl is that you do have some support whatever pd bids.
-
I think you really need to specify which seat I am in with this hand. Having said that, i would pick 5D. 6D, if you define it as preemptive, is too far in my view. We may take the frist two tricks.

I think the second product, if you can organzised it in such a way that it is more like a systematic book on some interesting and important topic in declarer play or defense, rather than a simple collection of nice deals, will have some selling point. By the way, if you can sell books containing same contents as ur CDs, I will be more willing to buy them. Happy new year

[hv=s=skjt982haj7dck983]133|100|[/hv] Auction goes as follows: W N E S -- -- -- 1S P 2C P ? Do you splinter or not?
-
few of the time I agree with ron, hehe.
-
hehe, i have lots of ruffing power, i dont have any card:)
-
Certainly not obvious. Either honour or smallcard lead could work here. The problem with low lead is declarer may collect 9 tricks immediately. I think I will cash A first. This will lose only if spade is 33 between dummy and declarer and the q is in dummy, or pd has qx of spades. Regards Hongjun

I think opener's rebid of 1N should show more than dead min, so I raise to 3N. The point is that if opener has dead min, he should pass my 1S. If his hand cannot pass 1S and it is dead min then he shoudl not open.
-
I like 4C, if pd can cuebid 4D then I am going to RKC.
-
No, 1N rebid is much different from without RHO's overcall. With 15-17balanced, you would open 1N, with 18-19 you rebid 2N, or 3N. You may want to upgrade ur hand after RHO's overcall.

Responder might have bid 1H with 5 points. Bidding a 1NT now should promise a bit more than a min: 1C pass 1H 1S pass = bal or unbal 11-13 points 1C pass 1H 1S 1NT = bal 14, or unbal 14-16 without a better bid It is a better usage of steps to split points this way. good 17 is quite different from 13,14. I would much prefer 2N rather than 1N. This just distort my hand too much.
-
Ben, I think 1N is a huge underbid,it only shows good 13-14HCP.
-
3D, hope pd can raise.
-
isnt this support my claim? Good/bad 2N is more difficult to play than spt dbl, exactly because there r so many exceptions or rules.

I agree with justin, how can double of 2♣ after you open 1♣ and you are sitting behind the 2♣ bidder be suggesting three card major support. I would guess it could have two meanings. Meaning number one.. I am 4-1-4-4 and would like you to choose between 2♣ doubled and ♦ and ♠ contract (except I open that 1♦, so imagine this was 1D-P-1H-2D)... or they have made a huge mistake bidding my suit, let's get-em. I think I prefer the have made a huge mistake option, and I prefer partner's reopening double (after I opened teh suit) to be optional, not penalty. Perhaps we should ask another question: How can a sane player sitting at the right seat bid a natural 2C without a long and solid suit after you opened club? DO you really think he will bid 2C with kj9xxx or kqt8xx? Another reason to play the dbl as 3-card spt is pd wont forget. Any rule without exception is easier to remember than any rule with exception.

Berben's better bidding has these two examples, they are defined as spt dbl.
-
I think this claim goes too far. I agree spt dbl and rdbl has its minus, but i think it has more plus. The time it causes headache is really not much compared to other conventions.
-
2D, very important to tell pd i do havw support. The whole point of bid is to find a fit. Never hide it.

I agree, you shouldn't pass but Dbl in the first place: you have both a 3 card ♥ (support) and 4 card ♠ (negative). Even if they bid "your" suit it should be on, since you can pass with a penalty hand... So this is a non-problem if you start right. Well.. let me help you out here... if you make a support double, spades are lost if partner is 4-4 in the majors and weakish. If you make a support double, your partner may very well bow out with four hearts and five or six diamonds if weak. If you make a support double, your partner may think, "hey" clubs was his suit, so this isn't a support double situation. And you are absolutely no worse off here if you simply now bid 2♥ than if you make a support double. In fact, you are better off, as your partner will know about your pitiful heart support AND YOUR LACK of values given your initial choice to pass. And instead of bidding 2♥ you could make the right bid of 2♦ or the better bid (than 2♥) of 2♠, all things not achievable with the support double. People pick on flannery all the time. If I had to name a convention I could do without it would be the support double. Ben, I think this is a spt dbl situation. IF u play spt dbl, then any dbl or opp's suit under 2 of the suit bid by pd is spt dbl. The sequence given in the question is the only one which you may play dbl for takeout.

Hardy's problem, in my opinion, is that he seldom sets difficult question. He only gives those good hands for his system. Lawrence, on the other hand, will show u easy hand and difficult hand, and he also tells u how he thinks about it and he is very honest, sometimes he just says i dont know the answer, but this is my bid, then analysis follows. His orgnization is not very good either. For example, his std bidding for the 21st century. Frankly i think it is not worth my money. Bergen's better bidding is excellent. i think this book, plus lawrence's 2/1 workbook, contested auction, and complete book of overcall shld make any player win the bidding game against most experts on BBO. Mile's book is kind of book u wont miss much if u dont have it, thuough the idea of overcall at 2-4 level with 4card suit is quite interesting, and new to me.
