  1. This sequence is different. I think in your sequence, it is not unreasonable to play dbl as penalty. You are sitting behind and no signs shows they have a fit. In the sequence given in the thread, I agree it is sensible to play dbl as takeout. The point is 2C, theoretically, should show a fit. Coz LHO SHOWed support for all unbid suit. Furthermore, 2C is volunteered, not forced. In this case, it is unlikely you have a good club suit. A side point, I think North shuld pass dbl rather bid 1N. That hand is very defensive. And 1N wont play well with singleton spade.
  2. I am tempted to invite slam with 5C. Second hand is a clear pass.
  3. Hehe, You did no worse than those Italian champion. They bid and make this kind slam. Regarding the trump suit play. I would lead small club from hand. I think this is the only way to seduce mistake. At least you got a story.
  4. I think it is sensible to play pass as forcing, but I agree there are not many this kind situations.
  5. No matter I agree it is a weak 2 or not, getting article published in BW worths three cheers. Regarding the hand, I have no problem with 2S when we are red.
  6. I lead Club. This is longest though not strongest suit. At least the requirement for pd is min. He needs "ONLY" CAQ. For major lead to succeed, you need not only AQ, but also pd has long holding in it.
  7. 2S is too conservative. Your shape is bad, but your cards are all good. I like 2C to show a good three card raise.
  8. I would dbl. Overcalling 3S is too committal. Dbl is more flexible.
  9. Get a copy of Dbl!: New meaning for an old tool by Lawrence. It has very celar explanation for this kind situation.
  10. But if West is a top player then why didnot he lead spade? Perhaps there is more than that.
  11. What about this one: S:765432 H: KX D: AXXX C: X
  12. I would overcall 2C rather than Dbl. I expect opp to find heart fit and then I will overcall spade again. Things dont have to go as I expect, but that is my plan.
  13. I dont think 4C is forcing. But I do agree there is some merits to play 4C as non-leaping Michael. With a long club suit. you can jump to 5C.
  14. Donot thinnk you can defend too much about the t/o dbl. The hand itself suffice to show why dbl is wrong. The key issue here is exactly you cannot handle a 4S call from pd. If your long suit is spade and have a void in heart. Then you can try to defend a t/o dbl. Even in that case, I would still prefer to overcall 4S.
  15. Gerben, think about it before you claim it is nonsense. If you have a good heart raise hand, why not show your support first and then bid 4N? You may thinnk with the hand I gave you can alwasy start with 1S. Is it? Suppose the auction goes: 1H-1S 2D-3C 3H-3S 3N-??? What do you do now? If you bid 4N is it RKC, quantitative inv.? If you bid 4C/4D/4H, is it cue? After the 3♣ and 3♥ bid, 3♠ says: Partner, I have pretty good spades, good enough to make them trumps. If you bid 4 in a minor after 3♥ instead, it is a slam try in hearts, wtp? With KJT98xxxx, x,x, AK. You would bid same, would not you? What is the point to consult pd if you know what to do?
  16. Hi, Gerben is right => my answer of 5NT is wrong, it promises the spade king. Both documents deal only with the situation that the guy, who uses RKCB, is interested in the Queen of trump. There are case, when he is not interested, e.g. he knows there exist a 10 card fit, in this case, he bids the next free suit, in our case, that is 5S to ask for specific kings. The sign of in 5NT is only needed, if the agreed suit is a minor. In this case 5S asks partner to bid 5NT as the last exit below slam. With kind regards Marlowe There are a few reason why it is wrong. If you need a specific king plus HQ to make a Heart slam, then 4N is certainly a wrong bid, even if it is RKC. Second, as so often happens, never test your pd at bridge table. This is another example why 4N then 5S must be wrong except showing a long sapde suit. No matter what the right answer is(this is debatable clearly), there is a risk pd will misunderstand it. Regards Hongjun
  17. Ben, this cannot be right logically. If pd has heart support, then how on earth can he suddenly find 5N is better than 5H after 4N rkc? If he wants to sign off in 5N then 4N as rkc must be wrong.
  18. 1), club takeout. This is standard I suppose. But I prefer to overcall 1S rather than pass first. 2) Invitational. There is no point to play it as preemptive as opps are apprently die of 2H. 3) I would raise to 4S. We have lots of trumps and we are not worrying opp's crossruff. 4) I think pd should dbl. From pd's perspective, your dbl should promise heart. Plus, either 2H or 4H is wrong bid. I will take 4H as wrong bid and hence dbl it.
  19. Why 3N is obvious? To bet on 3N you need either 1) pd has CA and club suit breaks or 2) pd has CJ, club suit breaks and SQ is an entry.
  20. Pd shouldnot dbl after 1D. He should overcall 1H if he wants to start slowly. I would just bid 4H facing a passed hand. THere is nothing wrogn with 4S, though I would consider opening 2S. Hongjun
  21. Yet another place to find out who is right who is wrong http://www.fifthchair.org/archive/conv/Rom...20Blackwood.pdf
  22. Gerben, to add my nonsense, please check this out http://www.prairienet.org/bridge/rkc.htm After you read this, please tell me who is making nonsense. Regards Hongjun
  23. Who says 3S is forcing? Second, even if 3S is forcing, it doesnot show a solid suit. As for the fear of save, I have no comments.
  25. 4N after 1H is not RKC, but plain blackwood. 5S is to play. Pd has sth like AKQJT9xxx, x, x, AK. So pass after pd's 5S is right.
