  1. I like the second treatment. I think it will be more easy to bid out responder's hand. For example: S: X H: AQXX D: kJTxx C: AJx pd opens 1D, playing first treatment, you have to bid 1H. If pd bids 1S, then you have to use 4th suit forcing then to raise pd's diamond suit. Pd will find it very difficult to belive you have so good trump support. Playing the second treatment, you can start with 2D and then rebid heart. Now pd will have a much clearer picture of your hand, at least 5D+4H. Regards Hongjun
  2. I think 2D is not that bad. I admit this is not an excellent overcall, but it is certainly not the worst. About a year ago there is a similar hand on this board and I remembered Fred said he would overcall 2D or dbl if playing equal level conversioin. He even asked Justin to ask Hamman's opinion and Hamman says he will dbl. Apparently he is playing ELC. I thought 2D is bad before that. Since ppl like Fred and Hamman consider to compete with this kind hand, perhaps we should think about it before pass. I really dont like dbl. As for 3D. Since I like to hear pd's raise, I wont blame it. Just my 2 cents. Hongjun
  3. 1N or dbl. I would never pass with such a hand.
  4. I must say I agree with this comment. Perhaps Lawrence is too good to match.
  5. Well, it doesnt need any information from opp's bid to decide what you should do here. As I said in previous post, without RHO's 2H you would xfer to 3C and pass. You should do the same with 2H. 2H doesnot improve pd's hand or your hand. Yes but the opp have bid and so I revalue my hand upward. I do consider the opp bidding, perhaps I should not and just ignore it? My point is I think the opp bidding has improved my hand. If the opp have their hcp in their double fit we can make game, if not then I have overbid. Why do you think opp's bid improve your hand? As I said before, it actually make your hand worse, coz the auction strongly indicate pd has lots of high cards in majors, as it turns out to be true here. I agree that LHo should bid some majors. And in that case I would upgrade my hand, coz it would indicate pd has cards in minors.
  6. 6D indeed looks like Junior's choice. I must say I am too old for it.

  8. The first one is quite diffuiclt. Pd overcalled 3D red vs white, He should have a good suit. Does he have a side ace to make 3N? Probably not. I think I would dbl to get a sure plus. With the second hand I think it is a clear pass. SOme pairs may not bid 4H as you did here. So you are already ahead of them. Second, you have good defense tricks. Pd, knowing you are short in spade, suggested to defend, I am very glad to pass. Bidding 5D need quite a few cards from pd. If he has KQxx in spades you wont feel happy.
  9. All analysises are good, but pd may not think the same thing. I would just bid 4C. Even if pd has 3 spades, 4C should play as good as 3S. Pd didnot bid 2S after 2D. This indicates very strongly that he has at most doubleton spades. Bridge would be much easier if we dont test pd with questions we could solve by ourselves.
  10. On the contrary, I think the chance that pd has waste card in majors is high. LHO didnot raise to 3H, RHO didnot rebid 3H. Where are the heart cards? RHO rates to have 4621. Pd might have 4423/4432. As you can see, diamond will not break. If you plan to ruff diamond in dummy, you will be overruffed.
  11. Not sure if we are Waiting for Godot or the Endgame? We are vul, this is imps I am just bidding the darn game and not waiting . Call me wimp. But I dont think you have much chance to make 5C. I dont bid 5C simply because RHO pushed me. WIthout 2H, I would just txfer to 3C and pass. Now I do the same. I could be wrong but it is not the first time and wont be the last time either. If you realize the risk of 5C and still bid it, I respect it. If you just get pushed and think 5C is a sure game. Well...
  12. 5C. I will let pd to make the final decision, coz I dont know what is right:)
  13. This is a great hand. I will make a game try. 4C looks good. If pd has club support, he will make an intelligent decision. If pd bid 4D, i think i will pass. Perhaps just bid 5D is as good as 4C.
  14. I pass. Even if I miss a makeable 5C I willnot regret. More likely LHO is playing a waiting game.
  15. I think 2D is better than 2H after 2C. 3N might be better than 4S.
  16. No. It only shows a good suit.
  17. Dont know, but will duck Ck first and see the development.
  18. By the way, I dont like Dbl. I prefer to overcall 1S.
  19. Spade. If declarer has heart loser, it wont escape. He could use heart to discsrd spade.
  20. With xx of spade doesnot give you much chance. The key to this hand is pd's Heart support. Pd's 1N denies 3 card supoort(If he has then he must have a limited raise with three cards), Without heart support you will have at least two losers in heart suit.
  21. hehe, I think this is a good bidding question.
  22. Vul.: None Dealer: East Sitting south, you hold: S: QXX H: -- D: AQXXX C: JTXXX East opens 1H, what do you bid?
