Dbl. Your hand is min. in the context. Pd's raise to 2S could be nothing. 4D has already showed more than I have.

Strong Hand Over Preempt
flytoox replied to pbleighton's topic in General Bridge Discussion (not BBO-specific)
This is a routine pass for me over 3♣, life has these things :) I will preempt much more often when I get chance to play against you:) -
I dont think this is very likely. LHO is a passed hand. Furthermore, your CK is a good card, and hearts breaks badly for them.
-
This would be too pessimistic. After all, you have good trump, good side suit. and DT is also a good card. I would say facing any min opening hand this should be good enough to make a game. If 4S goes down, then 3N must have play.
-
6D is Good MP. Why? NOt many would bid 3C as we did here. So not many would find slam. I think bid and make 6D will be good enough. 6S would be too greedy.
-
The problem with this is that if pd holds some so so 6 cards spades, he may jump to 4S after your 1N. Or you may miss the best heart contract. With balanced hand, I agree with dbl then 1N. But this hand is far different. I would rather bid dbl then 3N than dbl then 1N.
-
I think after your initial dbl, if pd bids 1S, you can bid 2H. I dont think 2C is much meaningful. It only gets things complicated.
-
Vul.: None Dealer: East Sitting in South, you hold S: X H: AKJ8X D: AQT9 C: AQX auction goes as follows: W N E S -----1C (1)? (2)Suppose you bid 1H, west passed, and pd responded with 1S, what do you bid now?
-
I would just bid 3N. We have no slam. Why waste time to ask?
-
Always 2N. I dont mind pd xfer to 3H.
-
Why do you think it is sac.? Both are vul., there is no evidence we have better hand than opps.
-
Definitely not forcing. Pd's 3S could be stretching. If he has limit raise strength, he should jump to 4S after 3H. I really dont see any reason to play it as forcing pass. With unfavorable vul., you might argue for forcing pass.
-
I vote for pass. Miles might say 3N is the right bid. But after RHO's dbl, I defintiely will run, perhaps exceed the speed limit:) 4H may win occasionally, but I dont want to be smart. 5C is another practical choice. I give it 8/10.
-
I think 2 over 2 is not forcing, but 3 over 3 should be forcing. At 3 level, you just dont have enough room for cuebid then show your suit. With your hand, I think 4H is ok. Against preempt, you should take a practical approach. Pd must have a very good hand for slam. He can bid on if he really has. 4H is not bar bid, just saying you want to play it no matter what pd has.

How many hearts?
flytoox replied to jillybean's topic in Intermediate and Advanced Bridge Discussion
As a real expert, I bid 3H. Hehe, just joking. -
This is not a good reason. Bridge is a partnership game. After your limited bid, pd still shows slam interest by bidding 4H. You have a good hand in the context. There is nothing wrogn with 4N keycard asking.
-
Mauro, it seems your simulation supports to bid 4H, right?
-
Pass is definitely wrong with this hand. Pd is marked with short spade. This implies you have heart fit. I would just bid 4H. I dont mind pd raise to 5 or 6. If you pass, pd is likely to bid some diamond. Even if he dbls, you dont know how many hearts you should bid. 4H, 5H,or 6H could all be right.
-
Read my post again please. I said that it must be obvious that they have a misfit before double is for penalty. It's not obvious here, so in my view double of 2♦ is for take-out - although I think 2♥ is a better bid as you see. I'll ask Mike in a couple of days. Unlike you I am certain that he agrees. Roland I asked Mike Lawrence in Scotland yesterday: "I like to play double as take-out. Extras but never with 4 hearts. If I have 4 hearts, I will bid them". Roland Thx Roland. Time for me to change the style:)
-
Hehe, comfort. 4S is actually quite sensible. This hand is a trap. Too many wasted cards. Though I bid 3N, I bid it to play, not to show any slam interest. My opinion is any bid showing slam interest overestimate the hand. If pd cannot make any move. I will be happy with 4S. On a bad day, you cannot even make 4S.
-
that's true.. but so it's also true that partner could be 4432... where do you want to be after 2nt, vulnerable at imps? Partner may be able to judge that pass is best. Arend I agree. My 2N has to promise some strength and some shape, but not exceptional. Otherwise, I would transfer to minors or bid 3C showing weak minors after 1N. If pd has 4432, he will pass my 2N. I think richard's dbl follow by 2N is best solution. This caters to all possible problem and gives pd a chance to pass the dbl.
-
Nice analysis, Ben. Just a side note here. Another reason favoring biddiing 2N rather than pass is that we have 5c4d. Curiously, if we have 4c5d, I would vote for pass. This is because if pd has 33 minors, then he will bid 3c, so we are safe in 3c if we have 5c4d. However, if we have 5d4c, then 3c would be very difficult and yet we cannot risk to change 3c to 3d.

No, no, 4N is a bad choice. Too unilateral. Opp may lead HA and give his pd a heart ruff. This is very likely in the sequence.
