Bridge is so interesting. We often get different conclusion from same facts. Pd did preempt with 2/3D, neither 2H was dbled by the opener. How could 3D be a better place than 2H? It is one trick higher, and it is a marked misfit. I dont see any point playing 3D as natural. On the other hand, pd is likely to have some good 10-11 points and spt for hearts. He thinks game is still possible even though both passed originally. But he want to consult pd's opinion.

I bid 4H. Pd passed twice, and I passed once. But pd still invite me to bid a game. I do have a maximum hand in the context. There is no reason to reject his invitation.

Inverted Minors, a question
flytoox replied to kenberg's topic in General Bridge Discussion (not BBO-specific)
Play 1N opening as 14-16 can solve this problem. -
I would raise to 3H too, but this hand is not so good as many suggested here. If pd has 5431, you are likely down in 4H.
-
Honestly I would never worry about missing such slam.
-
I would bid 3N, least of evil(only my opinion though). Pd rates to have 3 card in club. Many good things can happen, if pd has a stopper or club breaks 4-3. It is also possible that pd is cue for heart spt.
-
Any bid other than 2H goes beyond my imagination. And I doubt at table anyone will bid differently.
-
I vote for 3D. After establishing a minor "fit", our priority is to look for 3N. I am not too worried about pd bidding 5/6D. However, if I rebid 3H/3S and get raised to 4H/S, I am not happy. Actually, from the bidding, pd almost surely has 6 diamonds.

Which trump promotion? The contract is cold on any lead and defence thereafter. Roland Roland, did you see the actual play? You will see what I meant after you saw it. Nowadays even world class player/poster dont care what is going on when they comment. Sigh.

3 comments: 1. 2S is normal, 2. Opp missed a chance. When playing trump promotion, it is a rule to cash side trick first, if east cashed club ace b4 play the heart ace, you will not have any chance. 3. you can improve your chance and the play will be more fun. You can keep dummy's club and play a ruffing sqz, rather than relying on dropping the doubleton DQ. Having said that, dropping DQ is a good judgement.

you have a perfect inverted raise to 2D. So I bid 2N if I play Jacoby. I guess Ben will bid 3D as a limite+ raise, while 2N shows a weak raise. And I think he is right in this case.
-
That it didnt work out well doesnt mean it is wrong. I still vote for pass.

Strongly disagree. North cannot dbl with less than good 15hcp, even though with 4441 shape. 4S is a two way bid, for make or for save. As you said, 4H could be strong or weak. But from south's point-of-view, 4S should be right no matter 4H is strong or weak. He should not care about it. What he cares is if pd has support for 4S. I still think south's decision is marginal. If south's diamond is singleton, then I think 4S is mandatory.

Meeting in the UK
flytoox replied to sceptic's topic in General Bridge Discussion (not BBO-specific)
So far I have had a reasonable response about 20+ have expressed an interest in going, none have committed yet but this is similar to the last time I arranged one, I think people will need a few more weeks, one thing about it is, if you have never met anyone from cyberland before it can seem a daunting prospect. in answer to your question, we may be the only ones going it depends how successfully Pclayton and hrothgar markets their Las Vegas meeting, please lads [ui] if you are arranging a US meeting, use your own string as I am trying to organise a face to face social meet in England. I think I may go, but cannot commit either. -
Precision uncontested : 1D:1S:2H ?

you r right, if playing canape, then 1H abosolutely,no problem. But in precision, 1H promises 5 cards. -

The problem with opening is that by rebid anything you DISTORT your hand. -

Jimmy, like u said, if playing 4cM, i would open 1H, but if playing 5cM, then pass isnt that bad. The reason is exactly dwayne said, no ideal rebid. -
Just curious. What do you plan to rebid after pd's 1M? I am not against 1D, just dont know what the ideal rebid is. If there is an idea rebid, I would vote for 1D too.

Precision uncontested : 1D:1S:2H ?
flytoox replied to Chamaco's topic in Non-Natural System Discussion
Impossible... Strong Club Openings are hideous things. If you are going to play strong club, you MUST have a systemic mechanism to open nice 6 losers hands like this one... Playing precision doesnt mean you have to open all 11hcp hands. This is especially true if you play 2/1 gf in precision. What do you lose by passing? I doubt it is much. -

I would pass with this hand. -
Your call - Kx, x, AJ9x, AKTxxx (part I)
flytoox replied to pclayton's topic in Interesting Bridge Hands
Really? Is pard's hand so unusual here? I think a 2♣ rebid will get you to 3N / 5♣ only because pard has a superfluous 4th club. Will pard make a move over 2♣ with the same hand but one less club? I doubt it. Yes, even with Qx club he shoudl raise to 3C. I learnt this bidding from Fred when He was commentating vugraph. Not many know to raise with doulbteon. And this is a good bidding I think. Consider North/south alone without interference, and assume north's hand is Hxxx,Hxxx, xxx,Qx, then after your rebid 2C, he should raise to 3C. I am quite sure this is correct bidding. -
I bid 3D and pass 3H too.

Jimmy, I think dbl here shows 4-4 majors. really? seems like a waste, eh? why can't it show a hand with support for the unbid suits, ie a takeout? This is because pd's dbl DOES NOT promise 44 majors. If you have 4-4 majors, then you will not know whether you have 4-4 heart fit or 4-4 spade fit. By playing responsive dbl here, you are telling pd that you have 4-4 majors and would like him to pick one. Pd's dbl is t/o and he is asking you to pick a suit. So only if you think it is better for him to pick the suit will you do so. This is the point of dbl. If you have only one 4 card major, just bid it. Of course, your responsive dbl could only show 3-3 major. But it is very unlikely at 3 level. Of course, you can play dbl as penalty, but I strongly recommend to play it as responsive dbl.
