  1. The whole point of bidding is to find a fit and then decide how high we should go. Here we have fit in spades. Furthermore, when you bid a suit, you always hope to hear pd's raise. Same to pd. Let's make pd happy and raise him.
  2. Vul.: NS sitting south, you hold: S: K86 H: AX D: JX C: K87643 Pd opened 1H, RHO came in with 2D, what do you do? SAYC or 2/1
  3. 2D, 10+. After pd's 3C, I bid 3N. Pd has at most AJTxxx in clubs, so he must have spade stopper. We dont need much from pd to make 3N.
  4. Wow, that is beyond my imagination.
  5. Wow. You have a likely 8-9 double fit, 9 working points plus an extra queen for free, two ruffing values, and you don't have a game invite? I don't doubt you are right, just shows again how light you(r partners) open. Would you agree that this is a clear game invite opposite a "modern standard light" opening, or am I misjudging this hand? Arend How certain are you that your partner has four hearts? Ben, I think you cannt(should not) pass 2H. Yes, 2H doesnt promise four. That is why we shoudl make another move by 3D. This should show 4H,4+D and invitational hand. In this case I think we can have the cake and eat it.
  6. Honestly I think 2D bidder are too smart, at least for me. After 3N, just rebid 4D waiting for pd's further information. I might miss a grand but at least I will make a cold small slam. If you start with 2D I am quite sure a disaster is waiting for you.
  7. Simple answer would be 6H/6C. The problem is that they may bid 6S and even worse pd lead a heart and they make it. I will try 6D, hoping pd can receive the message.
  8. Why cannt opener have 4441 or 5431 and some 15-17hcp?
  9. I think it is not forcing, just offer a choice. Pd's hand is about invitational and the shape should be 1462 or 2461. If opener has 4 good hearts, he can rebid 3H or 4H, if his heart is bad ans short he can pass 3D.
  10. This is not the excuse. You want me to give you a hand pd wont be happy to see? What if he holds: xxxxx,kx,kqx, kxx. Do you expect he to raise to 7C after your 5C? Should not you bid 5C with: --,x,xx,AQJtxxxxxx? What pd should do? He willnot know.
  11. Havent thought about it much, but how about 2N=either weak minor two suiters or strong major two suiters? comments are welcome.
  12. This hand doesnt qualify for a 4S jump. At least not for me.
  13. Fred, what do you think of China's Zhuang Zejun (or Zejun Zhuang)? I think he is a top player. Not many players outside China know him it seems.
  14. Jimmy, Do you really think that South is strong enough to freely bid 2D? Did you notice that North-South didn't play NFB (negative Free Bids)? 2D is a bit light, but that is the least of evil I think. 4S is apparently a wrong bid. This 4-3 fit wont play well. Perhaps north should raise 3D to 5D.
  15. After 4D, opener will cuebid 4H, then responder bid 4S. This implies responder is just showing very light interest in slam. Opener can pass 4S with the hand you show, or bid on with a better hand. 3S is largely undefined given the contest, so I still think responder shoudl bid 4D to help opener to reevaluate his hand. Even you bid 6S. This is not the worst slam, certainly better than some I saw in BBO vugraph.
  16. After 2C, LHO will raise to 2S or RHO will rebid 2S. You think 2C will be passed all round when they have 8 cards in spade?
  17. 1.2S, 2N is the right bid. 2.x, 2D is the right bid. 3.x. North's double is wrong. pass quickly.
  18. You wont be happy if you find dummy with sth like xxx, xxx,KQTxxx,x. What is the point to rush? If you can make 6C, it is based on a fit, which implies the auction is unlikely to die with 2C.
  19. Just start with 1S. I am sure you will have plenty time to bid out ur hand. If pd rebid 2C, playing 2/1, I will rebid 2S.
  20. Nooooo. If you bid 3S,then dont run from 3N if pd bids it and gets doubled. What about SOS XX ? Hehe, theoretically, yes. But in reality, I doubt you discussed this |XX with pd and it is very likely pd will misunderstand you or he read you correctly but you thought he misread, or you know he read it correctly and but he thought you dont know he read it correctly... Let's keep it simple and dont test pd:)
  21. yes, 4N is quantitative, but I dont understand why north bid only 4N. He has good 14hcp and pd opened 2N. I would bid 6N. I admit i would miss 7D but at least I can bid 6N.
  22. Nooooo. If you bid 3S,then dont run from 3N if pd bids it and gets doubled.
  23. agree. I doubt the auction will die here. Let's start from 2C. We may have slam, we may have only 2 or 3C, we may have 3N. Why rush if we know it is going to be a bidding war?
