  1. I think you should compete with this "pure" hand. You got no waste, so you should get yourself involved. I like 4C if it is pass or correct (it should be as I passed previously). I have no problem wth 4N either.
  2. If 3H shows good two suiters, I will bid it. otherwise, i will just bid a simple 2H,
  3. good problem. I think the right procedure is cashing SA and then continue with s2. However, there is still a risk that declarer has SJx and Dxx. I am waiting for the experts analysis.
  4. Easy pass for me. I signed off in 6S. But he corrected it to 7D. I will never ever bid 7S. If that is what pd wants, he should bid it himself.
  5. 2S is fit showing, but tend to show 4 trump spt.
  6. Perhaps it is not so surprising. The advantage of 1S is that it gives pd a chance to raise spade and in that case you can upgrade the hand and bid a game in majors. If pd passes 1S, then he must have min. and tolerance for spades and it will be just as good as hearts.
  7. I personally think you should not have this problem. After pd's 2S, I think you should raise to 4S directly rather than invite with 3S.
  8. Not a big deal to miss such a slam. I will just pass 5C and pray pd make it.
  9. Dbl has to be for penalty. If pd wants you to pick a minor, he should bid 4N over 4H, as 4N after 1N would be an impossible bid, hence must be artificial. What do you want pd do if he has sth like xx, QJT9, AKxx,xxx? Pass? 4S is really a horrible horrible bid. If you want pd bid, dbl 4H, pd will either pass or choose a minor.
  10. Agree. The only minus is pd's response of 2C as natural
  11. Mike Lawrence's book on overcall and takeout dbl will serve you well. You dont need anythign fancy.
  12. I vote for 2S. Pd's rebid in 4th seat must either show a good hand or shape. I think Pass is wrong in IMPs, perhaps wrong in MP too.
  13. Definitely raised. This is a competitive auction, and the hand is just worth one bid. Not really. If you read Robson's contested auction, then you will find he probably will pass rahter than raise with this hand. The point is that this hand is defensive not offensive. Having said that, I would raise as well. But perhaps this hand shows why we should pass rather than raise. After pd's 2H and RHO's 4S, I think I will bid 5H. This is wrong but the sin might be pd's raise.
  14. I think it depends on if you are playing 2/1 95% gf or 100% gf. If it is 100% gf, then you must have a bid for the invitational hand with a diamond suit, so 3D has to be natural and invitational. If you play responder's suit rebid as invitational, then 3D cannot be a real suit and it should be splinter.
  15. I vote for 4C for its simplicity. 2H might work, but as Justin pointed out, if pd rebid 3C, then I am stuck. This hand worths only one bid in a sense, and 4C tells the whole story.
  16. This sounds like you are asking pd if he has diamond in control. So you will miss many slams. If you plan to consult pd, cuebid 4D then raise pd or bid 5H. This should show your diamond control.
  17. The first two hands are about to bid game or not. By the wisdom of "when in doubt, bid", I bid game with both hands. I hope it will at least bring me an average score. With the third hand, I think I will pass pd's 3N. I am worrying about possible diamond ruff. If pd has SA and a king in other suit, 3N will be easy. If I have a doubleton, then I will move to 4S.
  18. On the contrary, I think this award is more important than a bronze medal.
  19. Hard to pick when all bids seem so wrong to me. 1S is wrong, 2H is not very meaningful imo. 3N is wrong, 5C/5N are wrong...
  20. Both, but south 70%+. 3D has to be slam interest, south should cue 3H after 3D. South's hand is rich in controls. His spade holding should encourage rather than discourage pd's slam interest. After South's 3N, north should try again with 4C, looking for heart control.
  21. I vote for 2S. Pd is still there and he will do the right thing if his hand is not min. If his hand is min 2S rates to be our best contract. As mike said, if spade is akt9xx, I will switch to 3s.
  22. I like the theory of 3S implies non-singleton diamond. A side point, I think the given hand worths a 4S bid rather than 3S. Of course this may not matter in the context. After 5D, I prefer dbl to a forcing pass. This will be easier had I bid 4S in the previous round. However, east's bidding 3D then 5D is unusual. If he has a really shapy hand and think that sacrifice is clearly right then he would bid 5D last round. So 3D then 5D implies his hand isnot that shapy. THis gives another reason why we should dbl rather than pass to encourage pd to bid on.
  23. After 4D, just bid 5D. Pd will bid 6 if he has HK. 4N could be right but I am not so sure. If pd has Qx of heart, that would be disaster. I think 5D is safe.
