Perhaps the right discription is "forward going". If pd has extra, the responder will cooperate. I would say 3C shows about good 8-10 hcps. A related question is whether 2D(4th suit) is gf or F1 only. If it is F1 only, then 3C should not show more than 10hcp.

I have never really like the idea of xfer advances but this hand came up and it convinces me of the merits of it. Pd holds: S: KJXX H: KXXXX D: XX C: QX I hold: S: XX H: AXX D: AXX C: AKJTX RHO opened 1D and I overcalled 2C (hopefully no one will disagree here). Pd has a tough choice. Should he bid 2H? (We play that response to 2-level overcall is NF) He finally goes with 2D and I jump to 3N and that is down 1. If 2H is F1, then we may stil find 4H. But it seems xfer advances here really give you the chance to have your cake and eat it.

North: S: KX H: KJXXX D: KXXX C: XX SOUTH: S: AJX H: AX D: ATXXXX C: KX East opened 1C, as south you overcall 1D. DOnt you? HOw to continue after 1D? Can you find this nice slam?

Frances and Mike got this right. The beauty of this deal is that the dbl dummy comes up naturally. HLO has sth like; S: 9XX H: KXXXX D: XX C: TXX

Pd and I have different opinion on this sequence: 1D (2H) 2S P 2N P 3D(??) P Is 3D forcing or just to play? Suppose you play standard bidding, i.e., 2S is 10+, forcing but doesnot promise rebid. 2H by opponent is weak. Thanks in advance. Hongjun

I vote for 3D. I read very carefully mikeh's analysis and I like his point. But still, i bid 3D. Pd seems to have 2452 (or better 1453.) If I let them playing 2S, the declarer wont get spade wrong and I dont think we can get many tricks.

My rule of whether accept pd's 3 card limited raise is simple: do I have a minimum balanced hand? If no, then I accept. Here the opener's hand is min, semi-balanced, but Qx in spade. So I think it is normal to accept a limited raise invitation.

THanks all for the replies. Pd's hand is S: QX H: A98XX D: AQXX C: XX I responded with 1S, and Pd rebided 2D. I thought about 2N but finally the art of letting pd playing the hand led me to call 3H. Pd raised to 4H. This is not quite a good contract but pd managed to make it with favorable layout. DK is onside. My LHO has sth like: S: KX H: JXX D: KXXX C: QXXX. I personnally think 1S, then planning to rebid 3H or even 4H, is better than a simple 2H, even 2H is constructive. If pd rebid 2C, then you can just raise to 4H, as some poster pointed out.

Red all, pd opens 1H. You hold: S: J9874 H: KQT D: TX C: KJT What do you repsond and what is your plan for continuation? HOw good is this hand? DOes it worht an invitation?
-
MP you should not push them to five level. SO start with 1H. If you bid 4H now, they are going to find a five level contract. Even you double them, it may not worth much MPs.

Red all, sitting at south, you hold: S: Q H: TXX D: AK9XXXX C: XX auction goes W N E S 1H 2H X 3D 3H P 4H P P X ALL PASS PD leads a small diamond. Dummy hand is: S: KJTXX H: KQ D: QJ8X C: XX Question 1: Which card do you play, A or K? Is it important? (both declarer and pd has singleton diamond) Question 2: which card do you return? And why?
-
White all, in 4th seat, you hold: S: QXXX H: QXX D: AKX C: AXX West open 3H, two passes to you. What do you do now? 1. Pass. 2. Dbl. 3. 3N.
-
1N looks perfect to me. I dont like dbl. If pd bid 2H over my dbl I wont be very happy. With SQ in my hand, it is unlikely pd has a good spade holding.
-
3H. Perfect. By passing RHO's 2D I denied 4 card heart so my raise shows 3 cards exactly.

What's going on in a complex auction?
flytoox replied to jdeegan's topic in Natural Bidding Discussion
I would just bid 4H. 3H inviting may be better theoretically, but I dont want too much science here. All my cards seem working. -
1. 4C, good raise. 3N is an alternative, but with all good controls, I prefer suit contracts. 2. 4H, slam looks good. 3. Dbl, Take sure plus.
-
More fourth suit forcing
flytoox replied to paulhar's topic in General Bridge Discussion (not BBO-specific)
WHen a minor fit is found, your priority is 3N not 5/6m. So both A/B could be slam interest but still too early to say. Only if you find you have stoppers in all suits and bypass 3N then you show slam intereest. -
Do u open and how do u play the hand?
flytoox replied to badderzboy's topic in General Bridge Discussion (not BBO-specific)
Pd's 1H is foricing so you cannt pass it. -
Low diamond. Diamond J and T is what I need from pd. If pd has spade K and J, no rush. I can swithc to spade after winning my heart ace.
-
Mike, are you sure partner does not have something like xxx xx xxx AQJxx? Pd cannot have this hand. He should not dbl with this hand. He should either pass or bid 3C. You make a penalty double only if you can dbl again if they run after your first dbl. Otherwise, dont dbl.
-
Pd cannt have this hand. Otherwise he would bid 4S after 4C.
-
JImmy, with this hand, you shouldnot cuebid 2S. 3H is better
-
Vul. None You hold: S:-- H: Axx D: Kx C: AQJ8xxxx Bid goes: W N E S P 2S P ?? What is your plan?
