  1. And if declarers hand was AKJTxx KQJx --- Qxx instead? oops? aces don't always cash. I admit this is possible. But dont you think wiht that holding declarer is much less likely to duck CA in first round? He has ten sure tricks.
  2. J87 vs. AT63. What is the best line to play for 3 tricks? For 2 tricks?
  3. IMPs this really should not be a problem. West should cash DA b4 returning heart. In MP probably you still should cash DA, as declarer have already given you a trick by ducking . I think the right lesson from this board is not that much about signal but about avoiding unnecesary mistakes.
  4. dbl, then bid 3N. Probably this should imply not so good spade stopper and minor suits. You dont need to worry too much about pd bidding 4H if playing lebensohl. 2nd choice is 3N. 3C is wrong in suit strength, shape and HCP.
  5. bad diamond suit, min strength, I open this hand 1N. I'll be happy if pd xfers to any major.
  6. Perhaps the right bid is pass, but i cannot resist to balance with dbl.
  7. I dbl here. If pd can bid clubs, I will give him a riase. If he bid diamond, I will bid 4S. If he passes my dbl, that is fine to me.
  8. In this sequence you are unlikely to have a trump stack, so most of time your dbl just says "I want to defend". WIth the hand you gave, I would certainly bid on rather than dbl.
  9. If you play 2H as forcing but doesnot promise rebid, then pass is not forcing. I think this should be default agreement without discussion. However there is a school which says 2H creates forcing pass at 4 level or above.
  10. 5S is more than enough. Pd may have a hand for slam, but if he has it he will bid it. I will be happy if i can make 5S.
  11. 3C as well. I think it is not forcing but invitational.
  12. I think game is still possible. I will try 2N.
  13. I dont like 2C either. Bad suit, bad shape.
  14. what do mike and frances think of playing clube Q from dummy? Is this line technically better, or equivalent to , or worse than the line playing club from hand? Is it better psychologically?
  15. 2C then jump to 4D, asking pd to show his control, if any.
  16. Playing Precision with pd, north's hand S: AK2 H: QJ8 D: A86 C: QJT2 south's hand S: J862 H: AKT92 D: T54 C: 7 Opponents are silent. Auction is: N S 1C* 1H 1N 2S 4H AP Your LHO leads a trump. Plan your play?
  17. I like dbl then 5C. My hand is too strong. WE can easily make a slam if pd has some mild fit for my club suit. If pd jump to 5D after my dbl, then I will give him a raise.
  18. What about 3S? If pd can bid 3N then I will pass, expecting he has a stopper in diamond. If he cannot bid 3N, that is a great news. Now we can be sure 3N is not playable and 5C looks good.
  19. I think WJS is better here. After 1S, 3H is better than dbl then 3H, which should show more than a direct 3H bid. HOwever, this hand is probably not quite worth 3H at unfavorable vul. Change CQ to HQ would be a standard 3H bid.
  20. This should be takeout. Why? Because if the advancer has enough to dbl 2C, then he should responde some NT to pd's 1S overcall. SInce he passed pd's 1S overcall, he must have a weak hand with red suits.
  21. I think you should not duck spade here. RHO is unlikely to give you a trick. Besides, LHO may have 6 card sapdes and he may win spade king and gives his pd a ruff. THat would be a disaster. SO I win the sapde ace and cash diamond ace, then play spades. LHO is supposed to win with the king. Now he is endplayed. If he plays any red suits, that would be great. if he plays spades, i will throw a diamond from dummy and ruff at hand. HOpefully by now I can get enough information to guess the position of red queens.
  22. I am playing with a new pd and he devises a relay based precision system with 14-16 HCP NT. After 1N opening, 2C is NF stayman and 2D is GF stayman. I am not quite sure the merit of it. Has anyone ever heard this 2C/2D after an intermediate NT opening? Thx in advance.
  23. I think the original dbl created a forcing auction. As for what should I do know, I think dbl is not unreasonable. Another choice is 2N. I prefer dbl, it should win us +200.
  24. I think you can act more freely with strong hands but not with weak hands. The logic is that facing a pass hand you are unlikely to have slam. SO with a good hand, you can often bid what you think you can make. Furthermore, preempt takes much space and you know you are unlikely to preempt pd. OTOH, dbl doesnot acheive and it provides LHO more room to show different hands. So you'd better not reveal any info if you think you are not going to compete very actively for a partscore. With the hand you gave, favorable vul. i would dbl but it is not without risk. Unfavorable vul. probably better to pass.
  25. Red vs white, You hold: S: 987XX H: A98X D: KXX C: X Pd opened 1D, RHO came in with 3C. DO you compete?
