You are right. My question is about choosing between 3D and pass. I did think about the possibility of dbl then bid diamond at some level. But I think this hand is a bid short of doing that.
-
Red vss White, You are south, holding: S: Q982 H: QJ3 D: AKJ973 C: -- West, playing precision, opens 1H and is raised to 2H by his pd. Now do you bid 3D or not?
-
Diamond for me
-
5H for me.

[hv=d=e&v=n&n=sk3hjdkt932ckj873&s=sajt9654hdqjcat64]133|200|Scoring: IMP[/hv] At the table I bid 6S, all passed. West lead HA, ruffed. How do you play the hand?
-
By this I mean you cannot infer much from his bidding. Or put it this way: 6H promises long heart support. But that is all.
-
Here is a hand I didnt do well yesterday. [hv=d=e&v=n&s=sajt9654hdqjcat64]133|100|Scoring: IMP[/hv] The bidding goes as follows. W N E S -- -- P 1S 3H X 6H! ? You dont know much about west's style, but east is kind of nasty. Now the question is, what do you choose? Double to take a sure plus? or venture 6S or sth else? This is board 3 of last session. Your team are leading 15imps after two sessions, if that matters. I will post the play problem later.
-
Definitely pass. Be grateful opps havent dbled yet.
-
I will vote for 5H, not sure it will make, it even could be a save. I think 5H has two ways to win. It may be cold, it may be a good save.
-
I will bid 2C on first one,if SA changes to DA I might try 2N. 2C has lots to say. Good suit, safe level(relatively). Only thing I dont like is we may lose diamond forever. Second one I can accept either 3D or pass. 1D should show more cards, 2D wont do much preemptive work.
-
Here is another forcing pass or not question. [hv=d=w&v=n&s=sk874ht9874da8cj5]133|100|Scoring: IMP[/hv] Bidding goes as follows: W N E S 3D 3H 5D ? Is pass forcing here? IF yes, what do you do? IF not, what do do?
-
So mike, what is the min requirement for you to bid 1N after pd's t/o dbl with a balanced hand? Would you bid 1N if the hand given changes a bit to: QJXX, XXX, JXX, XXX?
-
Yes, normally south would take action immediately after my dbl. In this case, we will endup playing some level doubled contract. If you bid 2D then we may escape. This depends on whether south bid 2H or double.
-
I think it should just show some balanced, featureless GF hand. I will bid 4S and be prepared to pd's lecture if that is wrong.

Follow-up after 1D-2C in precision sys
flytoox replied to flytoox's topic in Non-Natural System Discussion
I never do that. I hate it:) and I always bid minor first if I have a good hand and 5m4M. -
Dear H_KARLUK, I am sure you know this: “What thou avoidest suffering thyself seek not to impose on others." – Epictetus. Can we just focus on bridge? I choose dbl, and my reasoning is pretty much same as Mikeh's. I think his first post to this thread is quite clear about what dblers are thinking. At least, I think we can "Agree to disagree", right? Best, Flytoox

Follow-up after 1D-2C in precision sys
flytoox replied to flytoox's topic in Non-Natural System Discussion
I personally prefer 1D shows good 11, with either shape or quality cards, say AXXX,XXX,AKXX,XX, I would open with 1D happily. However, I hate opening with KJXX, QXX, KQXX,XX. 1D-2N is invitational, showing 11-12. In my sys, 1D-2C is abosolutely FG. -
Suppose you play pretty standard precision, i.e., 1C=16+,1N=13-15. What is best (or better) follow-up structure after 1D-2C? Do you rebid 2N with any minimum balanced hand. If you rebid 2M, does it promise shape or extra HCP or just 4D+4M?

[hv=d=n&v=n&n=sakt93ht8dt83ckq7&w=sqj84h732dj4c9842&e=s72hqj9dak965cat3&s=s65hak654dq72cj65]399|300|Scoring: IMP[/hv] Let's try to get back to bridge itself. The full hand is shown above. I choose dbl at the table and lefty passed, pd bid 2C and was passed around to south, now he dbled and was passed out. down 2. Pass would be the winning call with this hand, but I still think do sth will win more than lose. As many of you reasoned (not just claim), dbl is better than 2D I think. Another interesting question is: should West bid 1N or 2C with that holding? I am very happy one of poster (awm) raised the follow-up question and would be more happy to read you all's opinions about the pros and cons of 1N vs 2C.
-
My line to raise to 2N is 14-15HCP with a good suit, 16-18 balanced. With 16-18 and a good suit, will just raise to 3N. More important is whether you have a good suit, not that much about high card points. This is particularly true when opponent has already shown a long suit.
-
With the hand you gave, isnt 2H the better rebid, rather than 2C? Rebidding 2C then bidding 3H shows better than min, I think.
-
You are not alone in this forum, I am sure:) but I really dont like 2D. it accomplishes nothing.
-
I like this argument. Pass is a safe bid, but 4S is kind of putting all eggs into one basket.
-
Lol. Thanks very much. You make me feel warm, and guilty. I should come here more often. Cannot forget those early days!

Sitting east, you hold: [hv=d=n&v=n&s=s72hqj9dak965cat3]133|100|Scoring: IMP[/hv] North opened 1S, what do you bid? PASS, 2D, or DBL?
