  1. With unknown partner I like 3♦. If we would be playing support doubles I would probably bid double as it seams a better bit to me (however, i don't say 3♦ are wrong - imho it's a matter of style). 3♦ are a bit overbid, but the shape is good (and partner bids hearts and opps spades). With north hand I would also try 3NT. And the south can move to 4♦ (but prepare to run if partner has ♦Axx).
  2. Hi, I have new investigation. How to play after overcall. Now I play two systems and two absolutely different styles: 1) 2/1 We rather ignore overcalls on 1st level 1♦ - 1♥ - 1♠ = 5+, 4+♠, F 1♥ - 1♠ - 2/1=9+, 5+cards, F, we play Hardy Raises here We play standard defense on jump overcall of 1♣♦ 1♦ - 2♥ - color = 8-12, 5+cards (13+ is jump color) We play after 2nd level overcall of 1♥♠ Hardy raises: double is 8-12 whatever, color is 4+cards, FG, 2NT is FG on lower color then overcall. The double thing is loosing a bit (you often play one level higher), but the plus from Hardy raises outweighes the disadvantage. After double there is modification that pass is weak or FG, 5+ any. The rest is rather common. xx = 10+, usually 4-4, non fit 1st level color = as without double (5+, 4+cards, usually up to 11, semiF) 2nd level color (not jump) = 7-11, 5+, NF pass = 0-7 or 12+, GF, 5+ After major we still play Hardy Raises. 2) Precision After any overcall we change to this: color 8-12, 5+ jump 13+, 6+ (well no idea what with 13+, 5+cards - probably t/o double and then color-bid) some fit-jump What is your style? How do you fit major after overcall? And the minor?
  3. Hi, I have two questions and I am unable to decide the answer. Can you help me please? Problem 1: 1NT - p - 2♦ - p 2♥ - p - 2♠3♣♦ I am used to play this as game try or slam try (cuebid). I was now introduced to 5-4 slam try. I think that it is much more usefull to bid games, when the two hands just play well than to play 6♣♦ on 4-4 fit. The slam is seldomly bid by opponents and it is rare (and also it pays off only when opps bid this and the 6M or 6NT is one down). The sharp games are more often then 4-4 minor slams. Is it better to play it as game try or slam try with 4-card? Problem 2: How much IMP will you use when you don't have possibility to open 11-12 BAL (you can open 5332 on minor and 12)? I think that the bridgebuilder could solve this, but I'm really unable to find out how to use it. Thanks for any idea.
  4. But I loose if partner has ♦Kx without the ♣Q... With ♦Kx, we have ♥A and ♦AK and a ♦ ruff...
  5. [hv=d=s&v=b&n=saj2hak87da6ckj94&s=sq1054h94dkq107543c]133|200|Scoring: IMP[/hv] How will you bid this one? Please no crazy gadgets, just some ordinary 2/1 or precision or if you like wspolny jazyk. There are two options (depends how much are the opps aggresive): 1. the opps pass all the way 2. the RHO (east) will bid hearts on the first opportunity, no other bidding on their line (say 1♥ or 2♥ most probably not 3♥)
  6. [hv=d=n&v=e&e=sakxhj63dqj763cj7&s=s109ha107da104ck9542]266|200|Scoring: IMP 2♦! - 2♥ - x! - 3♠ p - 4♠ - all[/hv] 2♦= multi, here: 6-10, 6♥ x! = p/c, slightly encouraging (I can play 2♥x or 2♠) 2♥ were probably some take/out. The lead is ♥x. You win the ♥A, the ♥K dropping. How will you proceed? I led ♦x hoping to find partner with ♦Kx. But partner has ♦Kxx and returned the diamond (the declarer ruff third diamond, played two rounds of spades and claimed). Partner has ♣Qx... Should I play the diamond? Should he switch to clubs after I played the low ♦ and he takes the ♦K?
  7. I just missed this one. What is the point here?
  8. 4♠, but after partner's pass I like 5♠ as well.
  9. [hv=d=w&v=n&s=sk53hq83d7643c764]133|100|Scoring: IMP[/hv] pass - 1NT! - 2♣! - pass 2♦! - pass - 2♠ - pass pass - x - pass - ? 1NT = 11-14, could be semi-balanced 2♣ = cappelletti, some 6-suiter (could be rarely 5-suiter), strength upto double (say 13) 2♦ = ask for the color (can bid own suit instead of ask) What is the double? What will you dp?
  10. [hv=d=w&v=b&n=skq32hkqj8dj7ca93&s=sa65ha4da1094ckj74]133|200|Scoring: IMP[/hv] Our bidding was: pass - 1♣ - pass - 2♣ pass - 3NT - all 1♣ = 2+♣ (1♦ is 4+♦, 1NT 11-14) 2♣ = 9+, 4+♣ 3NT = 15-17, should have all stoppers (majors for sure) Should one of us bid diferently? The common result was 6NT (we lost 8 IMPs here).
  11. [hv=d=e&v=b&n=s10985hq8daj104ca104&s=shak3dkq753ckq876]133|200|Scoring: IMP[/hv] How would you bid this hand? East opens 2♠ (3-8, 5♠), whatever you say West will say 4♠. I think we had not a great auction, but could lead to good result: 2♠ - 3♦ - 4♠ - 4NT pass - 5♣ - pass - 5♦ pass - 5♥ - pass - 5NT pass - pass - pass What went wrong here? I was the 4NT bidder. This is no assign blame. I don't care who made the wrong dicision, I'm just interrested how this should be bid. And how should I continue after the 2♠-3♦-4♠ sequence. Thanks for all ideas. edited: Thanks mikeh, there was really a typo there.
  12. Pass, I don't like the hand. ♠KQ cut and the hand is not much suitable for 3NT. Let them (maybe) fall.
  13. The last hand I doubled, that's always pleasant situation. ;) In this one I was between 3♣ and pass. And I passed, which was an unpleasant situation, because they made 2♦x+3 :o
  14. I was bit more blood thirsty. I doubled ;) One down, but was afraid until the last trick (that was the setting one).
  15. [hv=d=w&v=n&s=sjxhajxxxdqxxxxcx]133|100|Scoring: IMP pass - 1♣ - 1♠ - x 2♠ - pass - pass - x pass - 3♣ - 3♠ - ?[/hv] I'm just curios if someone does bid the same way, I did...
  16. [hv=d=e&v=n&s=skjxhq10d98xcqjxxx]133|100|Scoring: IMP pass - pass - 1♠ - pass 2♦ - pass - pass - x pass - ? opps play precision if it does matter[/hv]
  17. What would be your call if 4♠ are RKCB? (4NT is ♠ cue)
  18. I play Vinje leads. I was never sure how it is close with Rusinov. Against Suit: A =AK even count (+special signaling) K =AK odd count (+special signaling) Q =KQx or QJ, Qx J =QJx or J10, Jx 10 =J10x or 109, 10x or third highest 9 =109x or 98, 9x or third highest some play also: 8 98x, 87, 8x 3/5 Against NT: A =AKxx+, AKx K =AKJ+, KQ10+ asking for honor drop Q-9 =0 or 2 higher with exception HHx (the middle card is better) 4th I'm very happy with this. It is not completly suitable for other then the opening lead (I play it only for opening lead). There can be some situations when the lead during game can be the same (partner leads obvious AK etc.).
  19. Nerad zachranuju soupere, kdyz nemusim. Treba se nekam dostanou...
  20. Chci je uhrat na kara :P Jinak nemam sanci. Jak chces uhrat 5♣? Na cross-ruffy? To je jedina sance na uhrani bez kar. Kdyz budes snapat kara velkymi trumfy, muzess mit docela problem. A kdyz Ti trumfnou a nemudes mit ♠A...
  23. I've read this thread. And if I got it right: On the fourth seath open, even weak hands without spades. Is it this way? Thanx
  24. Jeste tu je moznost, dat kontra a pres 4♠ rict 5♣. Kontra v tomto sledu sice muze byt bez fitu, ale po 5♣ uz musim mit fit (nejsem magor, ne? Bych jinak rekl 4♣). A taky to hezky popisuje list.
  25. Myslim si, ze 2♥ nejsou forsing. BTW: bylo to proti Vam na acku, tak napis, jestli to byl forsing.
