I would pass the hand, imho it is quite weak: Qx AK and no more 6 spades without honor With the three-color: I would open and I'm not sure whether 1♦ or 1♠. 1♠ probably.

3NT

I hope partner isn't disappointed with your ♥ support if you bid 2♦ Michaels. Noone spoke about ♥ :-) Depends on what Michaels you play. You can have ♠ & (♥ or ♣), or maybe another Michaels ♣ & (♠ or ♥). Hearts are just a possibility. There are probably more Michaels cuebids, but I know just these two.
-
1. 4NT, I expect us to make 11 tricks. 2. pass
-
I would be happy to double them running :) Blood! (Not sure whose, but if I'm lucky then theirs). Edited: Well, OK. Pass is better. But I would double. You need some fun at the table.
-
1. 3♦ 2. 1♣ (too strong for a preempt) 3. Depends on agreement. I would bit 4♦ as Michaels ♠ and other. If not possible then 2♦ Michaels. If not possible, 2♣ or pass and wait.
-
Maybe stupid question, but what about pass. My hand isn't any great and if I want to play at third level I can make it also from the reopen (this looks like part score fight). And I will know more. If I would bid 2♦ partner will await 5 card and can misguess the board in defense or in bidding. Also he will be awaiting some points but I have just ♦KJ and bit useless ♠QJ (it smells partner has one honor and opener dubleton. Spade lead and maybe spade ruff).

1♠ and 3♦. I think I want play 4♠ or 3NT. 5♦ is not great spot for me with strong side suits. Unless partner has 4card fit. So I'll open 1♠ to search for major fit and bid 3♦ over 1NT to end in 3NT.
-
1♠ sure. Unless you play 1♣-2NT as weak on clubs - as I do, in that case is 2NT beter. This hand is imho not suitable for 3♣ with 4 spades (I play 2NT as 3-6 with 5♣). I would bid 2NT and wait. If partner says 3♣, I'll pass. If not (and he is allowed to say more then 3♣, I will bid 5♣).
-
Quite usefull: 2NT - p - 3♣= puppet 3♦= transfer to ♥ (can have 5♥-4♠) 3♥= transfer to ♠ (cannot have 5♠-4♥) 3♠= 5♠-4♥ (no chance to bid it otherwise) minors can be bid with 3♣: 2NT - 3♣ - 3♦ - 4♣♦ or directly. I'm quite happy with it. Another nice feature is: 2NT - p - 3♦ - p 3♥= 3♥ 4♥= 4♥ other= 4♥ and cuebid (nice hand) 3♠= 2♥ and 4+♠ 3NT= 2♥ and 3♠ if you have weak hand jump directly to 4♥ or you can try 3♦ (this is the disadvantage). But you gain more for founding good ♥ fit for slams, or 4-4 ♠ fit easily.

Hi, I run a thread where I asked for some defences against strong club. I have read some books and after a time I have an idea. I would like to know whether it is sound or just anothor dumb convention. Here it goes: Miron Against Strong Club ;) The probability prefers two suiters, so I based my method on it (44 25%, 54 25%). The x and 1♦ doesn't make a lot of problems for opponents so it should be some calls that partner will be able to bid. The 1♥♠NT are good for weak hands, the penalty is rare and you have overcall (I think you should nearly always overcall - especially in good vulnerability). The higher overcalls should be bit better. Because of some memory issues, I decided to use Cappelletti methods (they suit me well, just one or two bids would be better another, but you will not forget cappelletti, woun't you). With bad hand I mean, that you don't wish partner to compete unless he is pretty sure. I also prefer bids where you bid at least on of your suits so partner can preempt properly (4333 by partner is not very common and with 5431 he will be afraid against some reds or blacks). pass strong or weak (affraid to bid) x 5+♣ & 4+major 1♦ 5+♦ & 4+major 1♥ 4+♥ & 4+other (4+♥ & 4♠ only with weak hand, otherwise 2♦), bad hand 1♠ 4+♠ & 4+other, bad hand 1NT 4+♣ & 4+♦, bad hand 2♣ 6+ any 2♦ 4+♥ & 4+♠ 2♥ 5+♥ & 4+minor 2♠ 5+♠ & 4+minor 2NT 5+ & 5+ any 3x natural 3NT -6 & -6 any With 4333 you can say that one of your 3 cards is 4 card, on your own responsibility. You can have in NVxV shorter suits and in VxNV longer (but that makes sense). The 2♦ is used with 6+ hands you don't call a two suiter (64 depends on your wish). You can also bid 3x instead of 2♦ (it's all up to you). If you'll find this interresting I will add some further bidding (but this woun't be much difficult). BTW: This can be played after 1♣ - p - 1♦ as well (you just loose clubs and major - there could be bid for it, but I dislike to have two defenses for 2nd and 4th seat). I hope it is clear. But if you have any question or notice, I will edit this post to have it up-to-date.

Suits in different langueges
Miron replied to Flame's topic in General Bridge Discussion (not BBO-specific)
Czech: ♠ piky ♥ srdce ♦ kára - the first a is with stroke (if you have some strange non-czech charset) ♣ trefy -
1♥-1♠-2♥-2♠ 3♥-x invite into 4♠. 1♥-1♠-p-2♥ 3♥-x This seams similar to me. Against the strong handwe have 3NT or other contract (even 3♥x) and against fit and some values, I make invite into 4♠. If my partner would bid this way I would await ♠ invite.

70% of players plays with screens regularly (at leasy 3-5 weaks a year, some much more). This is Czech top team event. Our bridge is not the best but some of them play in the EBL events. One of the teams (maybe is just one team) that has no penalty was playing with screens for the first time.

What do you think about the auction?

What was the system they played? -
OK, i'll return for my topic ;) What is wrong when there are 50 penalties (in 45 matches) for time? a) players are slow c) something with TD (no idea what) d) the time is short I think the d), but any other opinion is welcome. BTW: b ) written together makes B). Any idea how to avoid this? (Not the Enable emoticons check box)
-
Not that easy. The time is not divided 50-50 between players. If one side has difficult boards and the other not, the first one will need more time. Maybe add EW from table one with NS from 2 and vice versa and compare it, but this is probably against law this time. Why isn't that easy? Have the players monitored at both tables. I am talking about major events of course. A few years back the Danish Team Championship was decided by a time penalty in the final segment of the final. Unfair? I don't think so. The players know about the time restrictions before they sit down and must therefore be prepared for penalties if they violate the rules. Roland 90 min rounds But I don't like the idea of: You had 90 minutes, you took 93, NS 42, EW 51. EW was the slow one and got penalty. This is non-sence (TD should had been called or penalty to both). To compare both tables is good, but: NS@1:45,NS@2:55 EW@1:45,EW@2:35 Team1 has 80 min Team2 has 100 min Thus team2 took more time than he should. Will you penalize them, or is it OK because EW on table 2 gave them some spare time by playing quickly? I don't think that some exact measuring of time will help you. Always it is up to the director and players (that call TD).

4♠, bit risky. But I don't want my partner to show me spade stopper.

[hv=d=e&v=b&s=skq106h8732dak743c]133|100|Scoring: IMP[/hv] p - 1♦ - p - 1NT p - ? Partners bid options: 1NT = 5-9 no other bid 1♥♠ = 4+♥♠ 2♣ = 12+, 4+♣ or (9)10-12, (5)6+♣ 2♦ = 9+, 4+♦ 2NT = 3-6, 4+♦ (this hand can be in 1NT, the jump to 2NT is rather preemptive) 3♦ = 7-8, 4+♦ What will be your rebid? I passed, but this was one down, average on board is about +100.
-
In our methods: 1♣ - p - 1♦: you can have 4♥ (or 4♠) only if you have also GF (say 12+ HCP) 1♣ - p - 1♥ - p 1♠ - p - 1NT I'm not sure here, but imho this promises some small reserve (say 7+). I have not passed 1♠ and I have not bid 2♣ or 2♠.

What is the proper time per board with screens? We played czech league with screens and time for 8 boards was 64 minutes. If you play longer you'll receive penalty for time (warning, -1 VP each next violation). The list of time penalties has about 60 lines (30 teams, 5 rounds). I think that there is something wrong (and I don't think the players). What is the time limit in your country? Have you problems with that time limit? I'm going to ask for longer time, but before this I want to be sure it is not an non-sence. (And as well to have some argument. Last year my team was disqualified from czech league - this resulted in change of propositions; I was bit angry last year ;) )

What will be your bid? I passed. What went wrong? Pass or 3♣? Or both? How should we bid? Thanks for all opinions.
