  1. As am I. The point is, as previously mentioned, does 1♠ show 4 or 5 by agreement? 2♦ covers both and I consider the hand strong enough for a reverse.
  2. 3♠ in both cases.....we play 3♥ as western Q, 2NT as natural.
  3. Was not taking a personal shot, rather a general comment...and did not say that my suggstion was "better" or "worse"....I always believe that these issues come up because of no partnership agreement the vast majority of the time. Having said that, the suggestion I made works here. I will continue to make what you view as "stone age" and they will continue to work. Feel free to pint out when they do not!
  4. And I have found that most do not have std partnership agreements and claim to be adv experts when they are not and do not fully understand the systemic "ripple" effects of the so called "non-stone age" agreements. A bidding system must fit like a glove and what arrogance refers to as stone age can just as easily be referred to as solid, proven basics.
  5. While I understand that this may overlook a possible 5-4 spade fit, I have found that chasing a second fit once you know you have a fit is more often counterproductive than not. Hence the most straightforward bid by W is an immediate jump raise to 3♥. E bids 4 and the auction is done. As to the play, if I understand correctly, Declarer has lost the forst 3 tricks and is in with a spade?
  6. Let me try this again...I keep replying to a particular posts and they are not showing up. Your description of a TOX is PARTIALLY correct.....it is, as you describe, an opening hand with support for the unbid suits...........OR.... A BETTER than opening hand (16+) of ANY shape planning to bid again. In this case, if you DBL then show spades it will be easy to stop in 4S!! This is what your partner was playing. The real issue is that you had no partnership agreement in this area. Neither YOUR way or HIS way are the ONLY ways.
  7. As Cheers decided to delete my response to his lack of gratitude (LOL( it is apparent he is not interested in discussing any way but his way.
  8. LOL!!! You describe a TOX PARTIALLY... In completion it is an Opening hand with support for the unbid suits OR a hand greater than a mere opener (16+), intending to bid again. If you will look at the actual hand and consider that you X, then bid spades, you will see that the contract of 4♠ is simple to stop at. Having said that, nothing trumps a partnership agreement and the only thing obvious here is that you and your partner had no clear agreement. Neither your way, or what I describe are the ONLY ways.
  9. "First error rules" is a mantra I live by at the table. Hence, in spite of his rudeness, your partners comment that your first bid should be a TOX, planing on rebidding spades, is accurate. imntbho, the focus of this entire thread is off. How does the bidding proceed if your first bid is DBL? In that scenario, it is easy not to get too high. Focus on your own errors first.
  10. 2 beginners teaching each other is the blind leading the blind.
  11. Cheaters will always find a way to cheat no matter what BBO or any of us does or says. They are only cheating themselves. Why waste mental energy on it?
  12. It is either wester Q or it is not. Without a prior agreement it is a crap shoot.
  13. Don't be in a silly 6♠ contract. problem solved.
  14. Agreed, but it appears that Liversidge considered it forcing, hence i surmised he does not play NFB! I am unfamiliar with bridge habits in Poland, so you may be correct.
  15. If you play Western Q, 3♣ is perfect here. If not, 3♥ is the only response remaining to pds forcing bid. Passing forcing bids is silly.
  16. You have sufficient values to X and then bid again! This would show extra values and more accurately describe your hand. Hence, the need for 4 spades is not a requirement. If the hand was a minimum opener 4 spades would be mandatory.
  17. You hold a minimum opening hand. Yes 2♥ is a reverse. best way to tell your pd this is to PASS! If he cannot bid again the hand does not belong to you.
  18. The only thing that this hand demonstrates is that the partnership had no pre arranged agreement as to whether the Michaels convention was preemptive or strong. Without such, no rational opinion is possible except shame on both of them for not discussing it.
  19. DBL...automatically...for all the reasons stated above
  20. As always, all that matters is partnership agreement. Having said that, I would jump shift with this hand and find the author's comment to be weak about 1♠ being forcing. It is the bid that most accurately describes the hand to partner, imo. Having said that, I also agree that a partner who passes the 1♠ bid, better be right. I just would be the 1♠ with a weaker hand than the one shown.
  21. PAss for all the reasons mentioned, plus the fact that you have no more in your hand than your 4♥ bid already said.
  22. When one chooses to open bottom of the barrel opening hands, which I would in this case, it is inherently opener's responsibility to convey that at the 2nd bid. The way to do that here is PASS! ATB is 100% E
