E is at fault for not bidding 5♦, not for not bidding 6!
-
I blame E 100%. W has fully described the value of his hand with the first bid. E NEVER DOES!!! Only E knows there is a minimum 9 card fit. Only E can revalue his hand after the 3NT to 16 playing points. Over 3NT, after showing shortness in ♠'s. He has an EASY 5♦ bid!! W, with the extra values in ♦ and 3 aces, should then bid 6♦ because he can upgrade the value of his hand due to the excellent trump support and controls. These things happen often, imntbho, due to the tendency to crap on the minors, opting for NT.

I would pass with the West hand and set 2♠. Problem solved.
-
IMO 3♠ is the choice that most accurately describes the hand. I play 4♠ as preemptive, which this is clearly not and would value this at 12 playing points max. 2nd would be 4 clubs splinter.
-
The easiest, least confusing way to completely describe your hand is an old school 3NT opening. 25+ and flat hand. Hard to miss slam if your partner has anything at all.
-
I would like to see the whole hand. IMO the @H hand is a clear pass. Would pd then open 1D or would opps open? The D fit is found easily after the original pass. Having said that, my regular pds and I play 2NT as the only forcing bid over a weak 2, asking for a side feature. a rebid by wk 2 bidder ends the auction. In this case, 3D over 2NT finds 5D.

They likely cheat themselves in the game of LIFE as well! They are to be pitied.

Any reason to get this right?

Seems to me you believed the ops 3♥ bid rather than your partners X. I would lead the Q♥ to begin with. -
another 5 level choice

BINGO! -
In either scenario- 1C-1S-2S-6S....the N hand values at 20 points, why mess around and give the opps info? If you want to use gerber, make it only after the LAST NT and never when clubs have bid bid natuarlly twice in the auction.

1♥-1♠-4♠-4NT-5♣ (0314)-6♠ Any less than the 3ACES and shut out at 5♠
-
I have not been posting here for very long, but nige1 I really like the way you rate the options!! Short, sweet and simple! In this case, IMO i would reverse these. 5♥=10, 4♠=9 I rate the S hand as better than an opener and if pd has top end or "better" than an opener it seems that slam is the percentage contract.

Small spade, without hesitation.

So, what you are saying is that you want to protect the privacy of runners? Really? A person w/ a high TCR is proud of it and would not care. A person who runs does not deserve some artificially constructed "privacy" concern. And the "lost connection" argument is a straw man. No connections are bad enough to earn a 60% TCR.
-
Currently, when we are asked to pair up in a tourney, the TCR/MCR of the person asking is shown. It would be helpful if this was shown for anyone on the partnership list for a tourney. then a person could not invite poyenyial runners. I can see no downside to this and it will help players and BBO

When LHO's takeout double is passed by RHO

I am a fogie who is foggy, but not a foggie! :P -
You do not really know if you are "pre-empting a pre-empt", do you? As you get another chance, I would pass here. As a general rule, preempting a preempt works out poorly because the strength will lie to your left and you are stepping into it's teeth. Along the same lines, bidding again, unforced, after preemting is an equally bad idea.

With 5 card suits, I open 1NT unless I have 2 doubletons, then 1 of suit. Pretty simple rule that has worked well over 40 years.
-
bingo!!! :P
-
A TOX followed by 1NT shows what the partnership has agreed to. My regular partners and I play TOX is opening count (13-15) and support for unbid suits. ANY continuation shows 16+... We prefer this to mis representing the shape of our hand.
-
I agree wholeheartedly. Way too many bidders ignore the proper shape as being just as important as points!

What's best? beats me.

I would open 2♣. Problem solved. -
Pass!

There is no way to avoid misunderstandings without solid partnership agreements.
