  1. I agree that this is a perfectly legitimate 2♣ opener.
  2. This hand is a great example of wy I use romex Gerber in all cases except where clubs have been bid twice, naturally. It discovers the Aces with room to stop at 5!d.
  3. Would partner, a passed hand, bid 2H with 10 points? Is that not what he needs for there to be a game try? Seems to me the aggressive action is an invite of 3H....and even that may be too much if pd has overly aggressive tendencies.
  4. Would partner, a passed hand, bid 2H with 10 points? Is that not what he needs for there to be a game try? Seems to me the aggressive action is an invite of 3H....and even that may be too much if pd has overly aggressive tendencies.
  5. Agreeing with all the comments that your HSGT application is odd here, it seems to me that your pds 3S bid clearly denied a game or he would have bid it. As a passed hand, your 4S bid was certainly "telling the same story twice". Pass is a bid, too!!
  6. As pds 1S is a free bid, and I have stops in all the other suits, I bid game. 3NT
  7. The above is reasonable at favorable V, not V vs NV.
  8. This post saved me a lot of typing. I agree with every word.
  9. Whether N bids 1NT or 2D does not alter that S has the count and shape for 3S. So I give S 100% on the "first error rules" philosophy. Having said that, I would bid 3S over 2S with the N cards.
  10. you can read or ignore any post from snybody you wish. this idea is just silly.
  11. 3!c...no hesitation and no slam and no problem.
  12. This is what happens when you preempt with a hand that is not a preempt. 4 losers at MOST. 2C is a clear bid and slam will be easy.
  13. BINGO!! Although I agree with the comment that distribution matters as well. Is not the question still pds pass? If I was playing in a pick up game and had a pd who passed this with 13-15 point count and 4 spades. they would go on the blacklist.
  14. Hopefully you have agreed with your partner that a X of a game bid is either a penalty or takeout. Also, hopefully you have agreed that a X of a major either promises the other major or it does not. If you have these agreements, follow them! If not, enjoy guessing and the scores that guessing brings about! :)
  15. 5C is more than reasonable. 1H promised 6pts and 4 hearts. As a minor suit game needs a revalued 29 points and pard can easily value his hand at 16 the only issues are controls. Since there is no bidding room left, 6C is automatic. A 5D cue bid would be a chocie between 6 or 7 would it not? Stiil opener bids 6C.
  16. First error rules!!! Simple question..........what bid more accurately describes North's hand to Partner?? 1D or 2D??
  17. In all honesty, the above discussion would turn a beginners brain to MUSH!! That SAYC is not even mentioned as the beginners tool to learn seems odd. The SAYC bidding here is short sweet and direct to the best contract....... 1S-2C-3NT....DONE!! The responders 9HCP and 6+ card suit are as good as the 10HCP that 2C tells partner. Opener adds 10 to his holding looks at his tenace, adds to 25+ and bids the game. As 2C denies 4 spades, what is the point of the reverse? Beginners need first and foremost a basic understanding of fundamentals taught directly and simply. Responder, holding 16+ can investigate slam as the 3NT bid is descriptive and NOT necessarily a shut off. Beginners cannot and should not be expected to know either the conventions or how to handle them in the machinations above.
  18. OPEN 2c, THEN YOU DO NOT HAVE A PROBLEM.
