  1. The only commonality seen in many of these posts can be described in one question. "What is your partnership agreement?" I you had one, there is no need for the question. If you did not, with a regular partner, shame on you. If you did not, with a pick up partner, welcome to the world of internet bridge!! :D
  2. While I agree that PASS Should be an option in the poll, (i prefer lighter preempts), with no way to ascertain where partner is short I would be hard pressed to ignore a 10 card fit. Hence I bid 4♠. To me, 3NT is playing "top or bottom" bridge.
  3. I will join the consensus that the hand should be opened 1♦. the main reason is that you can then bid clubs w/o it being a reverse and showing extra values, but rather describing the SHAPE of my hand to partner. Hence, we would play a 3♣ bid here over the 2♥ as descriptive and non forcing. With the hand so well described, partner's X would then be penalty...or he could raise my suits of rebid spades. Old fashioned I know, but it still works in competitive auctions such as this.
  4. First error rules/ Opening the 1♦ is a mistake, imo, but so much deoends on agreements.
  5. I concur that "jump reverse" is a fabrication. It is JUMP SHIFT is it not? 1♦-1♠-3♠-4♦-6♠ 4♦ showing a double fit and the slam, with the lone heart and club control is then worth a shot.
  6. First error rules...South has a clear 4♠ bid, 3♠ is a woeful underbid. South the compounds the error with the X. 100% South.
  7. right and wrong here cannot be determined if you had no partnership agreement as to the range of the 1♥ overcall.
  8. BINGO!! The issue heer is the 5♣ bid, not the Pass!
  9. "You are already the Captain after 1NT" BINGO!!!! Is 2♠ not a Responder's revers and forcing? With a 6 card suit and partner bidding 3♥, the trump suit is set so 3♠ is redundant. PArtner has a minimum (at least 13) and you have a revalued 19. Ask for Aces or just bid 6♥. Whay make it more complex than it needs to be?
  10. 2♦-2NT (asking feature)-3♦(denying feature)-5♦
  11. NORTH TAKES THE HIT! After the P, South's 3♥ is clearly competing and not showing extra values. Exactly what added worth does S find to bid game?
  12. silly bid as it.... 1. misleads partner 2. fails to accurately describe hand 3. is not in any published system I have seen and therefore 4. Qualifies as a psychic...was it alerted?
  13. What was your partnership agreement for the value of the X?
  14. Does this not look like a hold up play in clubs? I agree with earlier comment that which low club is led matters.
  15. Simple place to start is to consider taking your trick in a distribution hand and to conserve it in an evenly distributed hand.
  16. Immediate 2♦ overcall is a good place to start.
  17. in 1-2 seat I would not have opened to begin with and then be looking to balance or defend with no risk of getting too high
  18. A TOX misdescribes the sahpe of the hand. Strictly speaking the hand promises 4H's. I would not X and wait to balance or defend, deciding that later in the auction. 2S is down 1 and a balance can likely drive opps higher.
  19. For the vast majority of players I think the direct method is the best. 1NT =15-17? If you have 18 and 33 points is a small slam, why not add 18+15=33 and bid 6nt? If you have six hearts bid 6H instead. Leaves the opponents with no clue as to what to lead. w/ 33 points you cannot be off 2 aces. Why make the game more complicated than it already is?
  20. Only a penalty X makes sense to me. Pass! Odds are good that at least 2 of the players here will go on my "ignore" list!
  21. Why play w/ Bots EVER!! This is a prime example proving that you cannot program advanced actions.
