  1. Not only too lazy, but it fails to accurately describe the SHAPE of you hand to partner. Besides that, 2NT implies a club stop does it not?
  2. To me the priority is to accurately describe your hand, rather than make a bid guessing what partner may or may not have. It seems obvious to me that, given the priority, 2C is the most descriptive bid.
  3. I double, prepared to support spades, bid NT at the lowest level possible or pass at the next turn, depending upon subsequent opponent action.
  4. I will likely be in the minority here, but I think 2D is an underbid. I value the hand as worth 16 (adding a point for each extra diamond( the 5th and 6th). North can then clearly see slam opportunities and his hand values to at least 16 so 6D would be easy. As bid, I would never bid 6D w/ the North hand...likely 4D at which point South can revalue and bid 6.
  5. seems to me that the discussion should be about how bad the 4C bid is!
  6. I would never consider a jump shift as NF. But I HATE the dbl as it completely misstates the shape of the hand. Seems to me a cue is premature. But I play 3S as a limit raise and that would understate the values. 2NT is out for no heart stop, so I would likely temporize w/ 3C, forcing and wanting further description of partners hand. From the 3H bid I would expect 5-4 in spades/hearts and 18+ and would be hard pressed not to be in slam.
  7. With my regular partners, we avoid wide point spreads as defining second bids. Hence we do not play 3S as 16-21, rather 16-18. A rebid must also revalue to not just HCP, but distributional AND length points as well. I have no problem valuing the hand as 16 points and the 3S bid would define a 6 card holding. Does this not make East's bid of 4S pretty easy?
  8. OR..."Excuse me, if I valued your opinion I would pay you for lessons. Since I have not I would appreciate your not giving me any."
  9. I am a bit surprised that no one has suggested that you PASS rather than open at all! How do you think the hand plays out if you do?
  10. Play 10!h and win in hand when covered. Potential losers are 1!s, 1!c, 2!d. play A!s and low to J. Looking to eliminate club on good heart. Even if trumps do not behave, opps get their extra trump while club is thrown on heart.
  11. Could not agree more with the above! Regardless of the 5-4 major shape, IMO, 2 dbltns eliminates a 1NT bid for me.
  12. They do it because they are better than the rest of us...and they KNOW it!! :D
  13. it is quite likely that your partner has a club stack. Pass
  14. impossible to determine without seeing the entire hand. you are asking a "static" question in the context of a "dynamic" environment.
  15. I count this as easy slam points and since my KD is protected from the opening lead and that partner has a club honor, I would bid 6♣ on this so fast that your head would spin.
  16. 1♠-2♣-3♠-4NT---etc..... 6♠ How is this hard? If you think 3S is an over bid, please consider adjusting the manor in which you count the stength of a hand to include length as well as distribution and HCP.
  17. 4♣ as gerber over the last NT bid. Obviously shows slam interest. At 6♥ the lead will come through the spade stop and I want to know controls. I pd has diamonds stopped (as is implied with the 3NT bid), then it is likely that the K♥ is onside for the overcall to make sense.
  18. Of course he says that!! He starts fro an ASSUMPTION that his bidding system will produce the best contract!!
  19. eeking out tricks is irrelevant if you are in the wrong contract! :D
  20. Things are not a matter of beter or worse in most bridge scenarios. About 90% of the questions asked here boli down to "what is your agreement with your partner?"
  21. The times I have seen this the 1N opener has bid the diamonds because they felt panicked over bidding 1N with a 6 card suit and weak major stops. The solution is not to play bridge with people who open 1N with a 6 card suit and weak stops....put otherwise, opening 1N with 2 doubletons also qualifies for my blacklist.
  22. from the variety of responses, you can see that the answer to your question is that there is no right answer other than what agreement you have with your partner. As no one has mentioned position, all three are a 3H bid in 3rd seat.
