I have played with myself at the bridge club many times. Partner will sometimes run away to the restroom as dummy and I get some quality alone time.

Just a little joke...I don't think you need to mention that there are no screens involved...the bidding speaks for itself in that regard. Any pair that cannot remember their basic replies to NT, even after X interference, is absolutely not playing in an event using screens... If the 4♠ bid shows 6/5 as you say, then yes west has every right to choose to play in a 5/2 fit at the 4 level over a 5 level minor game IMO. Another key factor is the scoring type...If this is MPs the major game may be your best score. Although the bidding here seems to reflect a minor slam, although there is no rule against misjudging the bidding. I do not know much about the laws...but to me it seems that N/S are trying to buy a good score and refuse to shut up. If the play was affected by the MI, then maybe there is a case.

WBF VP scale changes
RunemPard replied to MickyB's topic in General Bridge Discussion (not BBO-specific)
It seems pretty obvious that he is talking about both teams playing the same # of boards to me. -
The only reason I can think of is that it's evaluation of the hands likes 2D better because this gives 1 card extra to it's suits...rather retarded with 20 HCP though. (evaluating for NT rather than diamonds)

Always a lot of them at our club in Sweden...who feel shocked when you grab their CC, or put yours in front of them. It is mostly the LOLs who have no idea that the CC is not for them to look at after every round as a reminder of methods they are using.

not diamonds this time

I am starting to think that if Ms. Beans picked up - - AKQJT98765432 - she would scorn a little bit... :D -
NV/NV, teams ♠ J5 ♥ KQ97653 ♦ T2 ♣ 65 (2♣)-P-(2♦)-?? I chose 3♥...praying for -2, hoping for -3...understanding -4 or greater is possible. I decided I would risk going for a number by removing some bidding room and making a potential slam a little harder to possibly find. I went for a number...with 4 digits. -5 for -1100 :-/ I know my hand is not going to produce much, but you be the judge... Am I giving them hell or just a masochist... Other table bid 6♠ and made, for a little loss. If I could have managed 1 more the bid would have worked against our 2 opps! :( Will put up full hand a little later. It was a good laugh though after...My partner now wants me to take some drug tests.

In regards to MP...I dunno about other countries...but we use a handicap system and masterpoints in Sweden. I have been playing bridge at our club for about 16 months and now my handicap is rather low(good) with not even 10MP yet...

Some of the most common uses of 2H/2S with a multi in Sweden are some sort of intermediate 6 card major hand. Like...10-13 or 11-14 6H/6S. When I use a multi, I typically play 11-14 (hcp+dist)(upgrade/downgrade) to take some stress off of the multi range. This makes the weak multi opening occur less often, and when it does it typically shows a garbage hand just trying to eat up some space.

My main internet is not working...only have my mobile connection. I will have to pass this one. :(

First 3 rounds of play shown(the first 3 cards played for N/S are shown)...South has shown 5/4 or greater shape, possibly 4/4 but unlikely. We can count 8 top tricks and a spade ruff, but we seem to have a problem getting our 10th on a spades lead... Not really sure how this is relevant...unless you have absolutely no agreements how to handle this...it seems like more of a help when the opponents are nice enough to describe some of their hand to you than to keep quiet.

1M-1N 2x-2N inviting to 3NT 1M-2N Jacoby When you can reverse them to have... 1M-1N 2x-2N Jacoby 1M-2N inviting to 3NT If your partnership never passes 1NT...you can find out a little more information before bidding jacoby...such as a 6 card suit, strong jumps, natural diamonds and hearts if playing 2C as 2+. There are the situations when partner makes a jump shift that you will need a way to show jacoby, but it seems like a chance to pick up extra information?

Your favorite/worst loss ever
RunemPard replied to ggwhiz's topic in General Bridge Discussion (not BBO-specific)
To make it even more bitter sweet... In Sweden we have bronze, silver, and gold points... 1 silver = 10 bronze 1 gold = 10 silver 15-15 to 17-13 VP is a tie and 7SP divided to each player on the team...(not sure why 7 and not 8) 18+ is a win and 14SP divided to each player on the team...(again, not sure why 14 and not 16) So rather than walking away with 28SP for our team, we get only 7SP. -
Your favorite/worst loss ever
RunemPard replied to ggwhiz's topic in General Bridge Discussion (not BBO-specific)
Just played our clubs team match tonight...so right now this would be my worst "loss"... 16-14 VP to us in the first round against one of the weaker teams...could have easily had 25-5... 11-19 VP to them in the second round against one of the top 2 teams in our club...could have easily had 22-8... My partner is a beginner, our teammates are intermediate/novice...so it was quite frustrating to have so many mistakes from our team when I played one of my best team matches ever! :( To beat arguably the best team in our club by such a good score would have been priceless as well. A board that discouraged me even though we got a good score on it was... Partner.. xxx AQxx K AKQxx Me... AKQxxx x AJTx xx PD-ME 1C-2S 4S?-4N 5H-?? We had not talked about bids over 5N...so I tried 6D...With no chance to show anything else earlier due to my partners "preemptive bidding", I assumed partner would take it as a natural side suit and all controls... Partner bid 6S only. The other table bid to only 4S after a huge bidding malfunction so we got 13 IMPs anyways (not sure how they couldn't find a slam here...), but missing such a good grand in a team match is still frustrating. 5N would have shown all controls and asks for kings with partner...we haven't switched to direct kings yet. So I had no clue what 6D should be other than natural with real interest? To make it even more frustrating, partner even forgot what we play for jump shifts... -
Alternate Uses for High Level Openings
RunemPard replied to 32519's topic in General Bridge Discussion (not BBO-specific)
P-1H 1S-4D*(splinter) 4N-5D*(0-3) 6S(meh...) or ask the queen if you are not feeling very lucky...but meh again... ♦A, 5 trumps, 2 card for partner's major..minor king...I would give it a go... -
Length Before Strength
RunemPard replied to 32519's topic in General Bridge Discussion (not BBO-specific)
Depends on agreements...1C-1D typically always shows 5+D if you have another way to handle 10+ balanced hands...so I like to play that if you show diamonds before your major you must be 5+/4 and at least 10 HCP. We get to show some of our shape and show strength at the same time. Can go further and have relays to find out the rest. 1C-1D(3+,5+) 1H-2H(4H,5+/4) 2S-??(relay) 1C-1D(3+,5+) 1S-2S(4S,5+/4) 2N-??(relay) -
Yes good point as well. I plan to go over play a lot as well, being that it is a bit different from spades. Just not sure how much to introduce about bidding before going into the play. Another possibility is to have her sit at the table with a final contract and play the hands first. Then, after awhile start with bidding. But as I said, she is a brilliant cards player, so I expect her to understand the differences in bridge play rather quickly. After the bidding basics are understood, then I want to go into more advanced play that does not really happen as often in spades as bridge.

Soon I will be trying to teach one of my friends and online spades partners to play bridge. She is a great cards player, but new to bridge completely. I plan to teach her basic SA, but I am a little lost with where to begin. Rather than start by dealing out completely random hands and saying how each should be handled...I figured it would be easiest to put together a plan. But...what order? My thoughts are...and they may not be great... Start by going over every opening hand...and what they look like in this order... (balanced hand types) 1M (MIN) 1m (MIN) 1N (15-17) 1M (MAX) 1m (MAX) then switch to... (unbalanced/semi-balanced hand types) 1M (MIN) 1m (MIN) 1M (MID/MAX) 1m (MID/MAX) (extreme unbalanced hands) 1M (MIN) 1m (MIN) 1M (MID/MAX) 1m (MID/MAX) (preemptive opening bids) 2d, 2h, 2s 3c, 3d, 3h, 3s 2N openings 2C balanced openings strong single suited hands strong two suited hands I am not sure if I should first introduce all of the opening bids, and then work on replying to them, or just do the opening bids/replies at the same time. Also curious if you all feel it is better to "put her in the drivers seat" directly, or let her watch as I control the table and ask her opinions. What else am I missing? Edit: Of course...competitive bidding and overcalls...but I think it may be best to keep the opponents quiet first? Thanks a lot! :) Don

In every system there is typically a minimum the suit can have... Strong club...0+ 5+ in all but clubs...1+ 5 card majors, 4 card diamond...2+ 5 card majors, 1D unbalanced, 1C balanced or clubs...2+, I believe you should announce that it can have 4/5 diamonds and shorter clubs. 5 card majors, better minors...3+ So yes, the opponents are entitled to this.

What do you bid with this?
RunemPard replied to silvr bull's topic in Intermediate and Advanced Bridge Discussion
Doesn't 2NT describe this hand exactly?
