I put this hand in another thread, and after looking at it again, I have further arguments... On the other thread I believed that it was my partner who started the bidding. This was wrong. It was actually me who started with a pass. I am sitting South. ATB as you see it. Also, let's say partner started the bidding rather than me. ATB in this situation. NS(US): RED EW(OP): WHITE South opens the bidding... Playing Swedish Modern Standard...very basic. [hv=pc=n&s=sj984hqd754caqj94&n=sak76hakt762d2c65&d=s&v=3&b=1&a=pp1hp1sp2hp3cp3sppp]640|480[/hv]

I am going to make a different thread for this hand..sorry if it is a derail. Okay then, tell me what hands partner can possibly have that would bid 2H followed by good support for 4S after? AKx AKxxxx xx xx or singleton or whatever Is possible I suppose... AQx AKxxxx xx xx or singleton or whatever Should I honestly be expecting a 46(21) hand here with AK AK in majors? With the bidding as it was, can you honestly blame me for stopping at 3S? Yes, my 3C bid may not have been my best option. But should I continue bidding? Possibly 3H was a better bid by me, that I may agree to, but I must say parding him often leaves me guessing more times than not. I rarely know what to expect any more. And simply because I argue what someone has to say about my judgment of a hand does not mean I have a superiority issue. I know I am not perfect, this auction was bad on both sides. Again, playing standard, what should I be expecting from partner after this? Let's say we are playing 2/1 rather than typical Swedish Modern Standard. Is bidding 2C 1st even really an option? Had I bid 2C I would hope that partner shows spades next, rebidding hearts later. Thanks, Don Also, I have tried going over hands with him many times in the past. It is quite simply, pointless. A player who constantly fails to draw remaining trumps, even in 9 card fits with no reason to not do so, is not a player who will gain much from going over hands. I am just frustrated and trying to get a new partner without hurting his feelings. Maybe that is where my "superiority" issues are coming from. Edit: One other thing to mention...I know my partner, and I guarentee 100% that if for some reason I bid the hand the same way and the bidding came to this exact spot, same bids, he would pass. The only reason he says that his bid is forcing, is because he has cards this time. This is how he always is. I swear! The last time we played..2 hands went me opening.. 1m-1M-1N-2M-AP Each time partner had a decent opening hand himself. I will gladly listen to Frances or anyone else on these forums, I will give my own thoughts and arguements as well, but I will pass on the advice of listening to my partner.

Sorry for disagreeing, but those of you saying 3♠ is forcing are assuming I had a hand worthy of a 3♣ bid to begin with. Based on my partner's bidding and my hand, 3♠ is 100% NF IMO. Partner thinks that I have 5♠ and could easily have 3 card support with a hand like... Kxx AKxxxx Qx xx Honestly...with Jxxx in ♠s, 3 junk ♦s, and most values in ♣s, I would rather just sit on 3♠ at MP. He limited his hand to me when he is sitting on a gold mine.

I feel your pain...My partner and I average around 50% at our club...he is happy, but I know with another partner I can easily add 5-10+% every time. Even when I play with my beginner g/f, we tend to often place in the top 3. I preempt aggressively when I believe I will play. I concentrate on making life difficult for the opponents. I overcall aggressively and will often try to declare a lot when he is having a very bad night. For example...a hand we played today.. Partner holds... AKxx AKxxxx x xx I hold... Jxxx Q xxx AQJxx 1H-1S 2H-3C 3S-AP He opens 1H, I choose to show my major 1st, although I was debating bidding 2C instead. Partner bids...2H. I decide to keep trying and bid 3C. He follows with his 3S bid. After I pass he is angry and refusing to believe that this is not a forcing bid. The worst part for me is that I am trying to take my bidding/play to the next level. I have been playing bridge for about 18 months or so and have learned a lot playing on BBO, watching matches/VGs, reading these forums. He is a nice guy, but ending this partnership has been hard for me to do.

I do not think it is a bad thing that when a contact is doubled and made that a big bonus is given, but it seems to be too drastic and illogical to me at least. If it were up to me, making a doubled contract would always give the game bonus. Transfer responses to a natural short club...
RunemPard replied to RunemPard's topic in Natural Bidding Discussion
Thanks ahydra.. I managed to find a few links online. I was wording my search very wrong...lol. Still appreciate recommendations, because many of these links are completely different. We play a 15-17 NT. One of them recommends playing a 55(52)... 1D=5+D or 4441, 4144, 1444. -
Transfer responses to a natural short club...
RunemPard posted a topic in Natural Bidding Discussion
Hello, Looking for links regarding transfer responses to a 1♣ opening. Have had trouble finding information regarding them so I would greatly appreciate any input. I understand the concept of bidding 1♦/1♥ to show the next higher suit, but beyond that, I am not sure about other bids. For example, would 1♠ be a natural relay to 1N? After this, continuations are beyond me. I have been thinking that this could be useful to show weaker hands with diamonds or a limit raise in clubs allowing for 1♣-2♣ to always be 12+ playing inverted. Other things would be showing a good ♦ suit or a decent hand with 5♦+4M. I digress, links/input please! :) (I have searched google, but having a lot of issues...my search criteria is probably wrong.) -
I do believe it is possible for an IMP tournament to be all positive...although unlikely.
-
The problem with hearts is that the opponents often like to bid over them with spades. :(

DONT BID BEYOUND RKC
RunemPard replied to mike777's topic in General Bridge Discussion (not BBO-specific)
I will agree to this as long as you permit me to blast 7NT holding 22 HCP opposite a 1NT. -
You can... There is a form of Spades where you play like a team match. Both tables play the same amount of hands. After completion, subtract the point differences from both tables to determine the winner. There is no sort of VP scale, but there could be. Duplicate spades like MPs could also be possible I suppose...but would need to decide how to handle bags. Overtricks would be a bad thing... So, a hand played 70pts to 33pts by team A would be better than 71pts to 32pts by team B Edit: Would be best to have two sections...one for NS and EW. A way to include sets into the scoring would be needed as well. If we managed to set our opponents on an 11 bid for 73-(-40) this would be better than 70-42. You would also need to decide if boards would have a score or bag count before play, so it would be quite complicated. NS scores for board 1... 73(set) 70 71 60 62 43 Then the EW scores...

1♣x+4 - 540/940 2♣x+3 - 480/780 3♣x+2 - 670/1070 4♣x+1 - 610/910 5♣x= - 550/750 The way the scoring is setup for doubles of 3C/4C seem to award players more than 5Cx=... Even 3Cx+1 is worth 570 points... To me this seems to award the players who get doubled at a cheap contract more than those who get doubled at game. Is there a reason for this other than just how the scoring is? (Just looking at results of a hand we played where many got doubled in club contracts.)

I just need to check with gszeszycki, but I believe you can reserve us a spot in the next match. Will contact him and let you know ASAP. Edit: We are able to play next match.

When playing with my g/f, we tend to lead from almost anything. Our card looks something like... How we usually lead from honor sequences..often more than one possibility for the same sequence..(shown) Usually lead from lowest in xxx and top in xx.. Followed by a warning that we may lead with imagination based on bidding or instincts.. I write usually in CAPS. Is this considered enough disclosure based on the laws/IYO? Some players in the past at our club felt "robbed" when a lead is unusual.
-
It was MPs. I editted the post to include that now.
-
We always have a good time...we just tend to bicker too much. She does learn fast, just not as much willingness and interest. :)

MPs VUL/VUL ♠KT532 ♥9 ♦AKQJ86 ♣Q I opened the bidding at 1♦ followed by 4♥ said to be to play and strength varies after an opening bid. I bid 4♠ which was passed all around. This gets more interesting if they go to 5♥... What are we doing now? Partner's hand and opening lead to play...
-
This board was after our disaster in board 23. :) I felt confident that she would not pass 4♥ this time.
-
MPs VUL/NV Bidding has gone... (1♠)-P-(2N*)-3♣ ? ♠AJT8632 ♥--- ♦AQ7 ♣QJ3 2N shows 12-14(15) (B) 3/4 ♠ Partner does not know splinters yet. Bidding is natural/control for us...bid as you would with your partner if you wish. Full bidding/results

If I was trusting her bidding, 5♠ would have to show poor spades and no first round control in ♥. She already said that she has no ♦ control by passing it up. But I agree that I could have just blasted 6♠ down 1 or 2 with her. I know that she doesn't know 5N from her would be GSF so I suppose my 5♣ was fishing for a confused pass.
-
VUL/VUL (MPs) OPP bids 1♠ to you. ♠--- ♥QJT9632 ♦QJ954 ♣2
-
Yes..The first thing I told her was..."I don't care if you were confused, we had already decided ♠ are trump." Followed by "Your pass was lazy and thoughtless." And the other common fights that occur when a couple plays bridge. She said that she liked her ♣s better than her ♠s. In her defense, she is still learning.

MPs ♠AT9862 ♥7 ♦AKQJ53 ♣--- In our methods the bidding went 1♠-3♠ Partner has not yet learned Exclusion, but has some knowledge of control bidding. Some thoughts of mine and partner's hand...
