Have played Spades for over 10 years...rated is a normal thing. What is it with Bridge players and not wanting to have an option to play for a rating? Honestly I do not care either way, but I will say that I would enjoy having a rated section on the site. Even a simple handicap system would work for tournaments. After all, this is basically the same as a rating system. But yes, I cannot understand why so many are against a rating system. If players do not wish to take part in rated play, they are welcome to play non-rated matches. For example, when I am playing spades...there is always one person a day making a comment about some taking the ratings so seriously. That they only play for fun and do not care about ratings. If this is true, why are they bothered to play rated? :) I would also like to recommend that any form of scoring be removed as well. There is no need to count score. This only encourages cheating, rudeness, and extremely unsportsmanlike behavior towards ones partner or opponents.

Yes...obviously with 4 in the major and 4 clubs you would show the major first. As far as the 12 count balanced invite goes...that depends on the hand?

This post made me laugh. I just keep picturing all the people at our club that would take it that way.

7 Tables played this board today at our local club...including my partner...no one managed to make 12 tricks. Please restore my faith in the human mind and bring this slam home! Opponents pass every round... The contract is 6♥. The lead is the 9 of ♣s. If you win with the A and play a ♥ and the T comes from dummy's left. (DECLARER) ♠AT2 ♥A743 ♦QJT82 ♣Q (DUMMY) ♠73 ♥KQJ8 ♦AK74 ♣A72 Link to the full hand and results. 5 tables got a ♣ lead and could not make it. 2 tables got the more difficult ♠ lead and failed as well. Only 2 tables were in slam. http://www.svenskbridge.se/e107_plugins/competition/competition.php?deal.111440.2 Opponents hands...

One thing I have to add...recently I have been playing around with using 1NT-2C as puppet period. So far it has worked just fine. Which leads me to ask...why have I never seen anybody play 1NT-2C as puppet in the past? Is there some serious issue with it that I am missing? 1NT-2C... -2D: 4cM -2H: 5cH -2S: 5cS -2N: MIN no major -3C: open for descriptive max bid -3D: open for descriptive max bid -3H: MAX 5cH (or play 2H as forcing) -3S: MAX 5cS (or play 2S as forcing) -3N: MAX no major ???

I could probably take up 5 pages on this post if I thought enough...another one... I chose to open a 14 HCP 1NT, one that I had posted in another post before. Something like xx xxx KJx AKQJx. Opening this as 1NT is debatable, but I like the bid. My partner...jumps to 4NT for aces...yes he plays only blackwood. I reply, and partner goes on to 6NT. The dummy drops showing a 13 HCP 5341 count. I smile and say..."Thanks partner". We finish the hand playing 6NTx-2 for an obvious bottom. Playing 3NT+1 would have been a 90%+ board. This is when my partner gets defensive. "Why would you open 1NT there?" -

For some reason the Swedish bridge site is not loading...but the bidding goes something like... ME - PARD 1♠ - 2♣ 2♠ - PASS Dummy comes down...partner is sitting on 14 HCP after my opening with the Ax of ♠. His 14 points nicely distributed among C/H/S and the 98 of ♦. When I ask him, why he passed, his reply to me was that he did not like his diamonds... -
You can adjust the size...but you need to first make the window smaller, drag the window in enough to reach the side, and then adjust. I have to do this with Chrome. You cannot reach the edge unless you move the window first.

From the tournament list, you can click the "More" option to get rules set by the TD if you mean those.

Seeking partner for practice and tourneys

I would be glad to play w/ you, but I live in Sweden so it depends what time you are online. My midnight I believe is roughly 1500 for you. -

One thing about this hand confuses and amuses me... The opponents are sitting on 10 ♥s and 8 ♣s combined with 22 HCP, yet they were both quiet in the 1st round of bidding. This is quite interesting to me. Why are they so quiet? What hands could they have? Surely neither of them has a singleton ♦?! Based on this I picture hands like... xx (10-12) xxxxx xx xxxx x (10-12) xxxxx xxx xxxx What else could they possibly have to not want to make noise in the 1st round? Even given these hands I cannot imagine why they have been so quiet. -

He left out the cards played...hands would have been... ♠ AKQ5 ♥ x ♦ Q86x ♣ JT92 ♠ J98632 ♥ 82 ♦ AJT5 ♣ 8 Or something similar... -
Just took the time to track how many hands I managed to get in after reading this... 29 hands in 25 minutes...5 round passes...my partner played 12 hands... I guess my main goal is if I have a chance to have the robot play a good contract, I let him.

Had some trouble with this one...

Thanks for the link, but still interested in what people have to say about this hand. I would rather have the linked hand over this hand any day. -
Me and my partner are currently trying out Hexagon 2s with some adjustments. This hand came up while playing... http://tinyurl.com/7x26e6b ♠ - AQT6 ♥ - A ♦ - AQ72 ♣ - AQ32 A 2 bid promises an ACOL style 2 opening with typically 5+ of the suit if strong. I chose to handle the hand as being balanced although the singleton A was quite an evil card. I downgraded it to a 20-21 NT hand and opened 2D. How would you all handle this hand using Hexagon or a more standard system? Was my treating this as a 20-21 NT a bad choice or should I of chosen to treat it as a strong 5 card diamond hoping for a ♠ bid by partner? The hand does need a good bit of support though from partner. Possibly opening 1D would be acceptable as well?

My thoughts are based off of a natural 1♣ opening consisting of either 12-14 (B), 12+ w/ 4414 (4♣), or any U/B (5+♣). The hand cannot be 18-19 B, because these are opened differently. I have been thinking about possible uses of 2N/3♣ using these and have this in mind... 1♣* - 1♥/♠ 2N/3♣/3♦ 1♣ = 12-14 (B), 12+ (Marmic), or 12+ (5+♣) ---1♥ = 6+ (4+♥) 2N = 17+ (6/7♣), (2236, 2227) 3♣ = 17+ (6+♣) (1336, 1237) 3♦ = 17+ (6+♣) (0346, 0337) ... If the responder bids 1♦, 3♣ shows a single or void, or 3♥ is used instead. After 3♣/♦ partner relays to find shortness. Thoughts on using something like this? Or would it be better to show a well supported suit for NT play using 2N? Note: I have not spent a long time thinking this through. I just thought I would put it up for input on the idea.

Quick suggestion... It would be nice to have a few chat lounges on the web client. Somewhere to go to find steady partner's, discuss bridge, ect. One chat room or a variety to fit different topics. The forums are nice and all, but somewhere to talk more directly would be great.
