This doesn't really seem like a problem...the problem is the player making a bid that GIB has no clue about! I cannot see any reason for BBO to put a second of time into "fixing" this.

Yes...we have quite a bit of home grown systems here in Sweden...some clubs have more than others. :) Most clubs do not care what you open. I suppose if most of the club constantly complained about a system, the club administrators may not allow it, but I have never seen any bids not allowed from the clubs I have played at. It can be a little annoying if you are playing against them for the first time, and have no defense, but most pairs who care enough will put together one for the next match. We played a team match the other week against a pair who opens 2♦ with semi-balanced or marmic hands (weak). This is rather difficult to bid against, but I plan to work on a defense for future meetings against them. IMO, whining because another pair has thought up, or is using a method that is effective, accurate, or hard to bid against is silly. Most pairs will allow you time to prepare a defense against it in a team match, and at pairs it is typically 2 boards. I always hear about how the ACBL does not allow numerous bids because of their destructive nature...I see this as a poor and boring stand. Bidding should be allowed to evolve and be different at many levels of play. I find it fun and interesting to play against bids I have never seen used before. Playing at a club where every round you are playing against 5542, 15-17nt, STR 2C, WK 2DHS is just...kinda blah to me. But then again...maybe I am more patient about abnormal bids because of my youth...

Worst Mis-communications

...If you ever see me about to play with that player...please inform me to leave immediately. -
This has been suggested...a lot...I would like a rating system, but just here to let ya know that you are not the first to think this, and post it here. :)

The vowels have been held down long enough. Only 5 of them...outnumbered greatly! Some of the consonants are willing to be "vowels" at times, but run in shame when their counterparts see them doing so. They have so many different sounds at times, that many of them don't even feel they have an identity. In conclusion...how dare you try to take away the only thing they have going...one of them earning the right to be at the front of the alphabet!

Does anyone look at the robot reports?
RunemPard replied to losercover's topic in GIB Robot Discussion
On the forums? If you mean the forums, you will notice that yellows go through the posts and inform about plans to fix, etc. -
This has to be the answer... If partner did stayman with a 3 card major, idk, maybe trying to see if partner has a suit for their singleton. (not so good methods)... Then partner can correct to their hopefully 4/3 fit at the 4 level? Nothing else makes sense to reasoning of always bidding 2S, so...this is what I think. :-/

BBO Free automated express-tournaments
RunemPard replied to pigpenz's topic in BBO Tournaments Discussion
I stopped playing in those after a British novice bid a 12 HCP 1NT as my partner...We agreed to play 2/1, yet it seems her profile overrides this... Not to mention the endless series of 1♠-1N where you are left wondering if your advanced partner is playing it forcing or not. Just because a tournament is free...does not mean you should not have an enjoyable game. And honestly...sitting there guessing what your pards bid, let alone system, is not so fun. So yes...I support having the 2/1 full disclosure used during these tournaments. I have no clue why it isn't used. -
Is there any % play here...or...?
RunemPard replied to RunemPard's topic in General Bridge Discussion (not BBO-specific)
Just a random post about this position, which happens at times... Mostly talking about the situation where you are somewhat sure your lefty is out of the suit played while you are, and you need to decide how to play the Q here. Could be sitting.. Qxxx ---- Qxx- x--- Qx-- xx-- Q--- xxx- ---- Qxxx x--- Qxx- xx-- Qx-- xxx- Q--- We will always lose against Qxxx, and it seems to be a 50/50 chance. Which leaves the only question being... Is our lefty MORE likely to hold the Q, since righty knowingly led into our KJx on the table. He does not know who has the Q, but maybe he is playing for it to be there. The other thing to think about, is if our righty holds the Q, and is playing with our minds to force us into a losing line of play. As I said in the post, I am sure there is no real answer...and a lot would depend on the opps levels. But, I still find it interesting to think about. This goes beyond percentages, IMO? -
This may be more of a "bridge psychology" question than percentage, but... We came into a hand earlier where we were playing 4♠ with 9 winners, and a possible 10. The defenders have taken their A AK in offsuits quickly, and the only question that remains is... AT9xxx KJx ...for the trump suit, but that's not all! During the 2nd club play, the player who led clubs throws off their good Q on partner's K. Partner started with xxxxx in clubs opposite my xx. So on the return of the club into our newly found void, we are left with a situation that nobody wants to be in. Are they trying to get us to do something stupid? Did they really lead x from QJx, even x from Qx is a little strange already. Is our lefty really out? Do they have the trump Q? Should we play our king and finesse through? Is there any psychology involved on them returning clubs, knowing partner is most likely void when we hold KJx in dummy? Does the club return for a ruff typically mean that the Q is held by the other opp? I am sure this is all irrelevant, but I find it interesting to think about anyways. If you all want the full deals I can find them. Partner held 6025 (bid a weak 2♠ over 1♥). Opposite..3452 (16 HCP NT)

Before I post partner's hand...I did not mean learning beginner as lacking thought and logic. Partner has started to learn about negative doubles and told me after she was confused at first, but remembered I could have shown real spades earlier. She has some knowledge about control bidding as well. She mean't for her 5♦ bid to show good shape and understood that clubs were assumed trump. This board would have been interesting if the opponent had not shown hearts. I chose to bid 6♣ and trust my partner's bidding. I thought she did very well. I did explain to her that I would prefer a 5♥ bid, as she cannot be sure that I know about the possible ♥ void. K7 --- AQ8543 AKT83

Partner is a learning beginner at bridge bidding, not card play.

A hand that really wants to play in diamonds...playing strength...forcing to game? Giving me a chance to show something interesting. Not the most common bid...but that is how I would take it if partner and I have never discussed.

Teams..NV/V Partner is a learning beginner...system is rather basic... ♠T ♥KJxx ♦Kxx ♣Qxxxx 1♦*-(1♥)-1N-(3♥**) 4♣-(P)-4♠***-(P) 5♦-(P)-?????? * 3+D ** Weak *** Control Are you feeling lucky...punk?

4th seat, strong hearts
RunemPard replied to billw55's topic in Intermediate and Advanced Bridge Discussion
Opening this hand 2♣ is a very interesting idea...but I only really consider this if we are playing control replies. Maybe partner will get a chance to bid higher than 2NT with 4 controls. :) -

Larry found a pair, thanks though! :)

Partner is the dealer...NV to all... Bidding... P-(P)-1♣-(1♠) P-(P)-2♦-(2♥) 3♦-(3♠)-4♥-(P) ? Do you agree with my bidding? 3♦ in this situation was not discussed. I figured a reverse opposite a passed hand must show a good hand and strong game interest. I wasn't sure if it was better to bid 4♥ or 4♠. The 4♥ bid was mean't to show a distributional monster...What would you do over 4♥ at any scoring? Are you expecting the hand I had shown, or should I have gone another route? My thoughts were that by doing a ♦ reverse first, then jumping in ♣, or showing ♣ again after ♦ support is shown, that I can better describe my hand. Partner can possibly make a negative double after 1♠, but she is still learning and the hand isn't that great either. The opponent showing both majors is bidding after you... Your hand... ♠: - ♥: A ♦: AK96 ♣: A9876543 Partner's hand... ♠: K85 ♥: 9874 ♦: QJ74 ♣: JT Thanks for the advice. I have edited the post a bit...had worded a few things wrong.

Alternate Uses for High Level Openings
RunemPard replied to 32519's topic in General Bridge Discussion (not BBO-specific)
Just a random thought... I typically play 2NT as minors or majors, weak... Would using 2NT to show a poor 6+ card minor suit and 3♣/3♦ as a good suit be of any value? Or does it just say too much to the opponents...or invert the meanings to allow for a stop in 2NT. Inverting the meanings would also have the benefit of opponents having no chance to double for investigating NT. My thoughts are about making it more clear for partner about trying 3NT or the minor. -
Little off topic...When playing at our club, I normally toss my cards in front of each player as I go to sit. The reaction to this is normally a stare as if I am expecting them to read it. These are normally the players who have one card which is either under the bridgemate or in their shirt pocket. Asking for access to this card is not only insulting, but extremely rude.

Alternate Uses for High Level Openings
RunemPard replied to 32519's topic in General Bridge Discussion (not BBO-specific)
Switch the ♥K with the ♥A and the ♠A with the ♠K and you just missed the usually better scoring 3NT game. Not to mention that on the hand you gave, South does not even have a Gambling 3NT opening. (Not that Gambling is all that great anyways.) -
Yes, you are welcome to add me. I live in Sweden so am typically not around late in the US. We can play whatever system you feel comfortable with, just good when looking for a partner to mention a little more. :)

I meet this description, although I prefer to play 2/1. But you have not said much about what you expect from the partner you are searching for.
