  1. We have handicap and masterpoints here in Sweden...I quite enjoy the handicap as a sort of rating. The masterpoints I could care less.
  2. 1st time playing together with 30 minutes before play to discuss. You know about as much as I did.
  3. Game all, Board 7 of 28 Opponents are silent...Partner opens 1♦-1♥ 2♣-2♠* 4♥-??? ♠AK5 ♥KT8762 ♦97 ♣K7 NV/V, Board 25 of 28...Partner opens 1♦-(P)-1♠-(P) 2♣-(2♥)-??? ♠AQ97 ♥- ♦Q7652 ♣AQ42
  4. Relaxed bridge club...or you can join the BIL (Beginner Intermediate Lounge). I believe you have to pay, and you get many lessons, reading material, and a room to play in with other players learning the game. You are also offered the chance to have a mentor to help you with lessons and advice.
  5. Would any body like to start practicing with me for after nationals? I would like to play another match in the future...
  6. Would be nice if it was all juniors, but oh well...sounds fun.
  7. The only logical assumption I can make from this is that GIB is looking for a change of partner...Well that or GIB is a sadist at heart.
  8. Non-2/1...but also interested in 2/1 approaches. Rather than bidding Jacoby/Splinters/Limits all the time...I would like to learn how to handle them more accurately. 1M-?? Let's say we have major support and a decent 5 card side suit. I have always had trouble learning the "standard" approaches. 1M-xy xy-2M 1M-xy xy-3M(jump) 1M-xy xy-4M(double jump) 1M-xy xy-3M(no jump) 1M-xy xy-4M(jump) 1M-xy xy-4SF xy-bid pards major So...basically, how do we handle invites, MIN GF, stronger hands, and even hands with maybe 2 card support? Thanks, Don
  9. Will be taking a trip to London this coming Sunday-Tuesday. If anyone who lives in the area knows of any decent clubs that would gladly accept a Swedish pair for an evening please recommend here! If anyone from the forums lives close to London and would like to play a session at a club feel free to ask as well. That would be fun! :) Thanks, Don
  10. Edit: Thought declarer was on lead...3 tricks
  11. I don't see the problem if this is a team match and nobody has played the board yet...shuffle and play it?
  12. Have not gotten a lot of feedback, but I may try to setup a match soon. Even if we have to do BBF vs ??. If BBF China would like to setup a team to play against us, I am sure we can come up with 4 players if need be? Or if Onoway would like, we can do BBF vs IAC? (As they were doing with BBF China vs IAC)
  13. I will look for others later when I have time...but #34 was... the_clown & jfaria RunemPard & gszeszycki 34-30 IMPs WIN!
  14. http://tinyurl.com/jwtau84 What possessed GIB to bid 6♠? I got lucky on the play and misplay at the end...but what?
  15. From a junior...I started bridge and taught myself by playing, watching, and reading. I already had an interest in cards (I started playing spades when I was 12). The interest is either there or it's not...IMO. The thing that attracted me the most was the diversity and excitement of the bidding. You don't just bid your tricks and play...you bid as accurately as possible to find the best contract to play. You setup agreements and "communicate" to your partner. The bidding was the most exciting part of bridge to me and that is where the fun is for younger players who already have been playing other card games. The best place to get new, younger, experienced card players from is online spades. 4 of my friends from spades are now playing bridge on BBO.
  16. Depends on where you are playing...(I believe) In Sweden no doubles are alertable. Edit: Didn't see the small text in title...I don't know about the ACBL.
  17. I will give my thoughts, and I believe that even Kleinman-Straguzzi-Chthonic will agree in this situation. East was first to bid with a pass, placing max 10ish HCP in their hand. Our partner then opens the bidding. West makes a vulnerable 2♥ preempt. Certainly, this is not "weak", but I could not imagine it having more than 12 HCP unless they chose to add some confusion to the auction. I cannot imagine many hands where our partner sitting south will have no possible hand to balance with holding 0-2(maybe a rare 3) hearts. In this case I believe NOT passing is a huge missed opportunity at any scoring. We MUST pass in good tempo, and put faith in our partner to understand that we may have better than game available. Not passing here shows lack of faith in our partner IMO. Edit: This is much different than for example expecting a limited partner to find the magical balancing double... P-1N-2H-P P-?? Now, this is much more difficult to find the courage, but the auction in the OP demands a balancing X.
  18. We want to set this, and if we are going to achieve this we want to go for the diamond ruff in south's 5 card minor. If he had AJxxx clubs then it would be very strange to not win with the A on the 1st play. So make the switch, get ur ruff if partner wins, play a club back and ruff again if partner can win.
  19. Good luck, I will most likely be watching our 2nd win tonight! :)
  20. I am passing and supporting after if I have a chance.
  21. Not sure what it is called exactly, but placement round at this club is just like a playoff I guess... 1 vs 4 2 vs 3 5 vs 10 6 vs 9 7 vs 8 Then...(not sure if it is based on standings going into final round or not) 1 vs 2 3 vs 4 5 vs 6 7 vs 8 9 vs 10 And I am just curious! :)
