  2. Good match! :) Other than me getting squeezed in my own 3NT contract, guessing wrong on a 4H contract, and getting greedy on board 28, I thought we did awesome!
  3. I would like to play...I am off of work. Standard 2/1 with gadgets and hopefully some time to play a bit the next few days. Have not been playing much bridge lately, and would like to get back into it! So if you need a pard...please! :)
  4. Anybody else care to post on this? I will put up the full hands tomorrow and why I found this "interesting".
  5. Sorry I put the hands backwards. South is opening.
  6. This is how we got there..all that matters is you make. [hv=pc=n&s=sakj98h9dqt3ckqj9&n=s6hq876dak86cat72&d=n&v=0&b=1&a=1d1h1sp2cp3hp4cp6cppp&p=hah9h4h6c4]400|300[/hv]
  7. [hv=pc=n&n=sat743hat82daj6c6&s=skj952hq7d5cakq98&d=e&v=n&b=1&a=p1sp2n3dxp3hp4cp4dp4np5cp6s&p=]400|300[/hv] Partner forgot she could ask about the trump Q and punted to 6. Obviously grand isn't that great, but if you wanted to get there, how? Is this one just throwing out a prayer by south? The clubs sit 4/3 so throwing off 3 hearts is no issue in this case. Anyways, how do you go about looking to see if the grand may be there? Is partner better off showing 5/5 directly? Or does the good suit quality make it better to just show your single? Edit: Had the hands backwards...South opens.
  8. Scoring = MP [hv=pc=n&w=sqt8732hajd65cqt7&d=n&v=n&b=1&a=p1d3h?&p=]400|300[/hv] Your call? My partner's bid and the hand that I was holding.
  9. Starts in under 15 mins! :) Come play if you are around.
  10. I would do whatever shows an invitational 5/5 MM hand. For me that is 1NT-2D; 2H-2S.
  11. I have never been an extremely active poster like some...but I used to post about 5-10 times a week for awhile. If anyone has noticed, I don't really post much any more other than the random hand from the club once a month. I would often like to try and think of something new that I wanted to try out on a table and ask for feedback on how to make it better or more playable in a system. Stopped doing that rather quickly after countless rude/troll posts. It's not the responses saying I don't really think this will work out, you should check this out instead, but the responses along the lines of..."Horrible, will never work" just make you feel bad. When I post an idea I have for a bid, I am not trying to revolutionize the bridge world. I am just trying to get help to make it as good as possible so I can use it myself. System design has never been strong for me, and I practice it by thinking of crazy, wacky ideas. Deal with it. :( But yea...that is the main reason I don't post on here a lot. I am pretty good player, but I do feel quite intimidated to post here or share my thoughts sometimes.
  12. I enjoyed it a lot. :) I hope my partners can forgive me though! :S
  13. A lot of spades players would refer to ruffing as cutting. "Sorry p, I should have cut that club at trick 2, but I thought you had the queen."
  14. Matchpoints... I could of gambled and tried 7...but should I? With the methods played, I couldn't find out about the 5 card club suit due to suit quality. Partner had... ♠KQ972 ♥2 ♦QJ ♣K9432 I had... ♠AT865 ♥A975 ♦A2 ♣A7 Partner opens.. 1S-2N 3H-4C 4S-4N 5C-5D 6C-? Jacoby 3H=s/v 1430 RKC+Q ask..pard shows SQ+CK At this point I just bid 6S without asking about what 6D shows...Is it more standard that this asks for the DK or shows? How can I bid the grand confidently here?
  15. I don't know much about laws...but IMO declarer has taken away any chance for a careless line to result in an extra trick to the defender. How can we know what they would do? Obviously the normal line is to go high "just in case", but how many times, especially at my local club, have I seen someone rough low in an obvious situation where they should go high. This carries on to the post-mortem for awhile. Giving declarer the claim to me is rewarding careless claims and possibly punishing the innocent defenders of a trick that this particular declarer was about to give up to them.
  16. I see no difference in low to the J or Q to low other than that we may catch west sleeping if we start with the Q and they don't cover holding KTx. Then we don't have to guess after QKAx. But if they do cover, then I think you still should play for the drop if you have nothing to go off of. You definitely don't want to start by low to the 9 though. When east does have single T you will lose when starting with the Q or low to J.
  17. To answer the question asked...all bids are 100% partnership agreement. But...why can't partner be balancing? Opener was unlimited until the 2H bid. I don't understand the usefulness of any sort of penalty X here.
  18. I would do my best to catch them before they play it...and I would feel guilty for a while if I never tried to stop it. That simple. Is it unethical? I guess not, but if someone needs to resort to this to win they need to just find a new game. IMO?
  19. 1♣-1♦ 1M-4SF xy-3♣ 1♣-1♦ 1N-3♠ if splinter is a possibility I guess...but never really done it in this spot (is it ♦s, ♣s, both, or can be any? 1♣-1♦ 1N-2♦ if playing xyz 1♣-1♦ 1N-2♣ if playing NMF and agreed to play this on after 1♣-1♦ You made this pretty hard to answer by giving us one bid and one hand...
  20. Welcome to the 42nd annual King of the Sinners PPV event. In the left corner we have Dozing Don. In the right corner we have The Sacred 8. Ding-ding. I really messed this up myself, but just interested in seeing who made the biggest dumb move. I feel my partner and I were both bridge sinners on one board! :o So this is a serious issue...:P My bridge sin committed...falling asleep at the table. Contract 3NT (opps)...my lead with... Kxx QTxx Kxxx xx 4th best heart led, single 9 from dummy. Pard takes the K and opps win with A immediately. They go on to play clubs and cash Qxx AKxxx. On the 3rd club, partner is out and plays the ♠4. I notice it is low, look at my hand and understand based on the bidding it is realistic for partner to hold the ♦A. I soon doze off, unaware that I am now a sinner. On the next club, the 3 is thrown while I am daydreaming about who-knows-what. But this is where partner has sinned...Giving partner an opportunity to make a mistake. Holding 843 in spades, udca count/att/lavinthal. There is no reason for partner to consider the ♠8 as a valuable asset. In conclusion: Pard holds 843 KJxxx xxx xx. I thought if he had 4 hearts without the jack, I should obviously let him in on diamonds. Lost in my thought, I forgot to look at his next toss and missed a valuable marking. Who is crowned King of the Sinners? Disclaimer: I mostly made this post for laughs and to share my own stupidity.
