Thanks Mike, very helpful, I think I do tend to chose the overbid when faced with either an overbid or an underbid... sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't lol.

My thought process was: - double was wrong for 2 reasons: 1, P might leave it in, 2 P might make a pre-emptive spade bid.. then what. - I was too good for a simple 3 clubs overcall (maybe that's what I should have done as I guess it's unlikely to be passed out when so distrubitional - showing both minors would be potentially a bit pointless if p is say 3 diamonds, 2 clubs. besides my clubs are far better than the diamonds? also would have to bid 4NT to show that as 2N we play as natural. - With my hand I feel like we should be in slam so I chose 6 clubs. one off and a bottom when no-one else bid slam, was this just a crazy bid (i suspect so) or was it a little unlucky Thanks, Eagles

One thing I struggle with I think is tactics, i.e. when to bid game, when to bid slam etc. I know in imps that you should bid game even if it's fairly unlikely (is 40% right?). just wondering what the case is with MP - is there a percentage (chance of it making) at which you should bid game or slam or does it entirely depend on the strength of the field? Thanks guys, I see a mixed opinion!! My thought was the opponents are clearly sacrificing here, surely I can't be prepared to play in 4S undoubled, so pass would be forcing... but can see why it would be seen as NF

This was in a lesson so nothing disatarous happened, but I was East and chose to pass, thinking it was forcing and showed a hand somewhere between wanting to be in 5H and wanting to dbl 4S or even possibly going for 6H (I can't seriously want to leave 4S undoubled when I've bid freely to 4H vulnerable?)... according to teacher my only choices were dbl or 5H. The reason I asked was I did dbl on hand 1 today, it was just a gut instinct call really but I kinda thought I was way too light to dbl especially without a 4th spade... but seemingly not! The other hands were just made up to see where the limit was but I guess even one I thought was VERY stretchy is within most people's limit on here lol.
