How does one get 30+ TP is it even possible? -
5D catches partner with 3 card support! but...
steve2005 replied to gwnn's topic in GIB Robot Discussion
I like description of 5♠ 7+♠. Gib forgot to open 3♠ with it's 7♠! -
There are several ways to play 2/1. I agree 100% with what Stephen Tu said and I believe this is the method Gib uses. Also, the one I use where 2♥ is a catchall bid. And god what monster of a hand does Gib need to cooperate with a 4♦ cuebid?
-
With no interference your natural bidding system should be doing better than raising on 2-cards. It will throw off your whole system, you can always give later preference which partner will take as 2-cards. However, if there is interference and you have no good bid but are too good to pass there is a place for an occasional 2-card raise especially with Hx. This applies to overcalls also.

TPs as a evaluating system have its own defect.
steve2005 replied to lycier's topic in GIB Robot Discussion
Gib since one of it's "upgrades" many moons ago likes to jump to slam arbitrarily without checking for aces or investigating fit. This is especially ridiculous in situations where partner is clearly captain of the auction (which Gib does not acknowledge) like here when they have opened 2♣. With KQ♣ opposite a ♣ rebid by opener should be taking it slow and showing delayed ♣ support after rebidding ♥. 7♣ makes on non trump lead so should be settling for 6♣ or 6N. But the point is 7♣ or 7N might be cold while even 6♥ has no play (on 4-1 break) As 2♣ openers have been known to have a ♥ void! which is being counted towards total points. You shouldn't just be counting TP and bidding slam, fit and distribution is more important. -
Penalty is not the right term. The opponents have set ♥ as trump their not playing in any other suit (NT still possible but unlikely). 3♣ is a game or slam try and while shows something there is somewhat artificial. Normally your double would suggest a lead or sacrifice in ♣. Knowing that they are unlikely to be able to play in ♣, if this is what programmers meant it gives them a free shot at suggesting ♦ & ♠. I'd rather show ♣ otherwise the 3♣ bid could keep suit from being led. After all if you have ♦ & ♠ you could have used Michaels earlier and with lesser distribution why would you be suggesting a high-level contract?
-
Yes double, that is how you collect a big number! You may not even be able to make 3♠ cards are probably breaking badly.
-
The description of 1N is something like it would be if Gib was playing minimum off-shape takeout doubles, which is not checked on it's convention card and I believe Gib does not play. Of course then it should say 2-3 ♠. If Gib has the hand described by 1N it should pass and accept 1♠ as a reasonable place to play. Minimum off-shape take-out doubles are an abomination and should be wiped from the planet. Much better for 1N rebid to show a hand too good to overcall 1N, like 18-19. 19-20 or 18-20 depending on your system.

I think the mistake (in description) is 4N not 5♣. 4N usually isn't Blackwood in that sequence. But who knows how Gib takes it. 4N says I'm not interested in ♣ slam. Other bids are control bids in support of ♣. For some people 4♦ says doesn't like ♣ how about ♦ but I think that is unusual.
-
As far as I can tell Gib has no way to make a slam try with long diamonds over 2N (a weakness). Can show 5+♦ using Stayman by later bidding 4♦ but Stayman supposedly promised a 4 card major. Perhaps after 1♣-1♦ opener can upgrade their hand based on K♦ and cooperate which 2N opener can't. or did auction go 1♣-1♦-2N-6♦?
-
if 5♦ is Blackwood then that's 1 Ace and your off 2 Aces unless there is a void slam not good. or maybe your playing 1430?

if on bbo to send chat to someone !c=♣, !d, !h, !s -
yes there is the ask for A/K loophole but it is a very rare hand that this kind of information is all you need for an opening. Even more unlikely you can't find this out eventually opening a strong 1♣ or 2♣. The only use I see for this type of opening bid which doesn't use up a much more useful bid would be 4N asking for specific aces.So not useful as an opening, yes useful for later A/K asks.
-
Sensible, but not GCC legal. 3N can be unnamed minor or any solid suit. So if you want unnamed major you need it to be solid. This is silly but true minors can be anything but majors need to be solid. I also agree with others that playing 4♣/4♦ as natural is very underrated.

runout after opps redouble shows 5+ cards?
steve2005 replied to helene_t's topic in GIB Robot Discussion
why bid 1♥? Even Gib might have bid 1♥ if it had 4. So should be 2♣. But your right 1♥ shouldn't promise 5 if fact it is unlikely you'll have 5. -
You might try to find games where opener is light but with shortness if hands match well. Revision (Precision) has a 2N Limit+ raise with 4+cards if limit but 3+ cards if GF Can be found at Bridge with Dan http://www.bridgewithdan.com/systems/index.html

Response to Weak NT with 7 Clubs & Weak
steve2005 replied to Liversidge's topic in Novice and Beginner Forum
And you can't show an invitational hand with five hearts. 1N-2♣-2♦-2♥/1N-2♣-2♠-3♥ is quite fine for INV with 5♥ unless your playing a form of garbage Stayman on 4-4/5-4, but I think that would be ill advised with 5-4 just signoff in your 5-card suit and with 4-4 there isn't even a guarantee of a 4-3 fit. -
Hand 1 - 2♣ Hand 2 - pass, opps playing in my suit vulnerable Hand 3 - partner is being silly, they've passed twice so don't have much. All they are doing is telling opps hearts aren't breaking, so they will play the hand double dummy or go to spades if they wernt already

seems to work now, don't know why not earlier

Response to Weak NT with 7 Clubs & Weak
steve2005 replied to Liversidge's topic in Novice and Beginner Forum
Opener will like clubs with Kxx, clubs wont run. Even with A♣ partner has a weak NT your likely open in a suit. So your only real choice is to sign off in 3♣. This was lucky hand. -
if you want to be gcc compliant I think your stuck with 2 options 1) 3N - long minor, 4♣-good ♥, 4♦- good ♠, higher natural 2) 3N - solid major, 4-bids natural (or 2 under transfers which would commit to 5-level for minor suit pre-empts)
-
your 4♣ opening is non GCC. 4-level openings have to be a known suit, so you cant even use it for a good major. 4N opening also non-GCC, cant be used for an unnamed minor, which is really dumb since 3N can. 4N could be used for both minors.
-
If this were a tournament then If they make a invalid claim you are supposed to call the director and have them settle it. play is supposed to stop. This applies weather it is declarer or defender making the claim.

lately have been unable to sign in to bbo using http://www.bridgebase.com have had to use http://www.bridgebase.com/index.php but now even that doesn't always work. using windows 7 and IE11

has no relevance to alerting a 1M opening. a 4-card/5-card major is not an unexpected meaning. Even people playing 5-card majors do open 4-carders on occasion.
