leading low from Qx can only possibly help if opp have singleton K or A. Even then it blocks the suit so would be an unusual lead.

So asking a question about alert coveys UI? Can't someone just ask so they will be ready if the auction develops they might need to take action. Doesn't that also means when a person doesn't ask that conveys UI that partner if in doubt should pass?! It's just silly, it's natural to ask what an alert means.

From Gib convention card notes - " 1M-2M direct raise shows 7-10 points" so Gib should be raising directly to 2♠. This delayed preference could be made on 5-7 pts and 2-3♠. What other bid Gib make with such a hand? So bad description.
-
I think any bid that shows 30+ points should be taken out of Gibs programming except where 2♣ was opened by that player. It's just silly to think someone has 31 pts when there was a 1N opening by opponents.
-
Why indeed? You've limited your hand. Simple math says a slam is very very unlikely. Any cuebid at all is bizarre. Very strange usually it's hard to get Gib to cuebid.
-
Good bid. Would have worked with a human partner. Unfortunate Gib is very aggressive responding to pre-empts even to 4th seat openings where the need usually isn't there as opps both have passed. Gib uses the Law to base it's raises, which means if it has a fit up it goes. The hand actually has some play, on trump lead dummy is dead as cards lie.

Disagree, partner will think you have mostly long ♦ and 1-suiter preemptive. If you open 1♦ that won't end the auction and you can rebid 5♣. Partner will know your strong and at least have a chance of bidding slam with minor suit King(s) and will correct to ♦ when right. An unusual meaning for 4N would be just this sort of strong 2-suiter bidding better minors small slam with 1 minor honor, grand with 2. But I don't know anyone who uses this. nor is there a scientific way to bid this, knowing u probably get interference.

19TPs means that Gib must force to game without fit?
steve2005 replied to lycier's topic in GIB Robot Discussion
This is a system problem. Big hand must double and force for 1 round if no fit found. In my opinion, even though this hand is 18 hcp it is not worth this treatment. 9 of it's hcp in it's short suits, weak 5 card ♦ suit, it's just not worth this treatment. I think good alternatives are offshape 1N (for strength and stoppers) or 2♦. -
Gib's defence needs to be improved in further

Have only bid suit 3 times, if they were serious about leading ♥ they would have bid it again. :) -
Strongly suggest Gib should play 4th suit double
steve2005 replied to lycier's topic in GIB Robot Discussion
For this convention is normal to play double as ♥ and ♦ tolerance. This is called by some Snapdragon. With a hand like yours it is very strong for a passed hand. By a passed hand some people play fit jumps so 3♥ would be 5♥ with a good fit for ♦. Good luck getting a new convention BBO doesn't regularly add things, they have enough to do fixing things. -
Yes, this will cost you a disconnect. If ACBL and some other tourneys you can reconnect and rejoin tournament and avoid.
-
I think the only question is do you cash cask K♣ catering to singleton Q♣ before finessing ♣?probably not I think!?
-
Yes, 11 tricks easy in ♦ even 12 as cards lie.
-
even with the 4♣ Gib's bid promises in explanation is absurd. 2♦ is cold by the way, lol.
-
Not inadvertent. He made an evaluation of hand then wanted to change mind based on table info. -2200

You need 3♥ to at least possibly have 5♠. Anyone know how many ♠ Gib promises in their description? Yes, was going to also suggest doubler give preference to 3♠, but can you trust Gib to bid 3♠ not 4♠ and then not pull 3N to 4♠?
-
Best way to show 4-4 in the majors would be to cuebid but in this case Gib doesn't have sufficient values. If Gib now bids 3♥ over 2N either could/should be 5-4 which causes other problems. The solution would be a 3♣ cuebid after 2N asking for Gib to describe hand as a sort of checkback Stayman but I doubt Gib has implemented this. Also, Gib is notorious for bidding poorly after cuebids.
-
Either you open 1N or you rebid 2♥ there is merit to both.
-
But seriously Gib seems to decide it's strong enough to reverse and opens lower suit but then never shows 2nd suit cause later decides not strong enough. got to have a plan from start.

When LHO's takeout double is passed by RHO
steve2005 replied to Liversidge's topic in Novice and Beginner Forum
Some of old foggies still open 1♥ on 5332 especially if were not in our 1N opening range. -
Don't know when this occurred which could make a difference but from memory transfers over opponent's NT openings has been permitted by the GCC for a very long time. The specific rule which allows it is: Allowed is all defences to natural notrump opening bids and overcalls, except that direct calls other than double and 2♣ must have at least one known suit.

Ok, I didn't know that. Then it took opener for 5 KC. A while back there was a fix where if bidder showed 1/4 or 0/3 and Gib not sure was suppose to sign-off in 5 then partner bids slam with 3/4. I guess this wasn't implemented for 2/5 responses. But I stand by my previous post that Gib had no business bidding 4N, especially with 0 KC.
-
Yes, 5N is a big blunder apparently Gib is the only computer that can't count up to 4. Is it possible Gib thought you were showing 2 or 5 KC?! Even so it should be 5♠ and you would go on with 5 KC. 4N in my opinion is the real problem! First off all trump has been agreed as ♠ so it should be Keycard not straight Blackwood. Secondly why is Gib going for a slam? It's a minimum, sure it has an extra ♠ but the quality is nothing to get excited about. Thirdly, even if it did have a passed hand interested in slam it should cuebid and let the strong hand take control (captaincy).
-
Yes, some people play this. Like I said earlier there are many ways to play 2/1. But not for Gib it is GF. Those who do play that way check off the box "Game Forcing except when suit rebid" on their convention card in the General Approach area, Gib has "Game Forcing" checked.

Not Precision that's 16+ pts. To open on all 0-19 pt hands would be unusual, more likely its 11-19 or 13-19. Opening on 0 pts would cause major problems. If they are using 0-19 I would just overcall as normal, their system will likely not work very well.
