  1. I open all 12 pt hands I don't care how bad they are. in post and these 2 examples have easy 1N rebid. wouldn't be happy opening last example but would.
  2. At MP losing a heart fit could be a disaster. At imps you want to upgrade to 1N I wouldn't sue.
  3. declarer will have 4 trump in each hand from bidding, leading trump unlikely to cut down on ruffs. yes, Gib doesn't do lead directional bids but when p shows a suit and you have KQJx in it how often do you lead it?
  4. After a 2/1 you are not promising a 5-card suit it's just very likely. After 1♥-2♣-2♦ As to 2) If partner is thinking of making a false preference with 2♥ in this auction after a 2/1 they have a balanced hand possibly with 6♣ and usually the strength for a 2N rebid but lack a ♠ stopper. The solution is not to make a false preference but to use 2♠ fourth suit forcing for 1 round. If your playing American style of FSF being GF then you may get stuck in a 4-2 fit but when I play Acol I use FSF 1 rd force. If you have less the INV strength 2♥ and 6♣ either rebid 3♣ or respond 1N not 2♣
  5. How did it score 64%? There is no game EW. People in even more ridiculous spots doubled?
  6. hand I know Gib runs simulations for leads but this is ridiculous. I doubled Stayman for a ♣ lead (probably not sound but had Axxx) They end up in 4♠ Gib on lead with KQJx ♣ leads a singleton trump which is dangerous as I probably have 4 so might pick up suit instead of very safe K♣
  7. It's advancer's job to decide weather and where to run, not yours. you have 18 pts a semblance of a stopper and are control heavy. Partner may have a 5+ card suit to run to. Almost every first bid is an overbid by definition so if your always worrying about being doubled there is going to be a lot of pass outs. 2♦ is ridiculous, should never be overcalling a 4-card ♦ suit nor any 4-card suit at the 2-level. Double is closer but you would have to rebid 2N over 2♥ which shows better hand so stick with 1N.
  8. Yes, difficult and rare. My Acol book says specifically open 1♥ and rebid 2♦ over 2♣. This does not "promise" 5♥ though is likely. So in Acol you occasionally play in 4-3 fits that is the price of playing Acol. This is a reasonable solution, other systems have different methods and different costs. Of course there are exceptions, poor hearts or club honor another bid could be used.
  9. Their playing Acol so a 4-card major ok. I don't see the problem 1♥.
  10. One of the biggest advantages of Leb is you don't have to force unless you have a force.
  11. Problem is 3♣ is potentially a double negative. • GIB Upgraded! A new version of GIB is is here! We call this Version 33. 2♣ p 2♦ p 2M p 3♣ p 3M is now non-forcing (with 3♣ being an artificial double-negative.) So, if you have a GF opposite 0 pts., you may have to bid game now. Your hand is essentially unlimited at this point so wide range unavoidable using this system. I think it better to have 3♣ as always a double negative and bid 2N with balanced or ♣.
  12. I have partners who would open East's hand 2♣. They're wrong but I think 3♦ is a better rebid not 2♦.
  13. I would agree with good 5+ card suit. Often where your cards are is more important than weather min/max. Which is why many experts have done away with 2N invites and just decide to pass 1N or goto 3N. But Gib's diamond suit is not good is missing A & K so should only invite. Sure on obvious ♠ lead makes 3N but is down even with you having AK♦ on ♥ or ♣ (&♥ switch) lead which on an other day may be the obvious lead.
  14. Your example is 2♠ bid. I think opener should bid 4♠ not 3 and if Gib doesnt have 4 tough it shouldn't be doing neg double on xxx or Jxx,
  15. ArtK73 has 19 support pts with solid spades not an overbid. If anything it is an underbid
  16. Yes, this has been brought up before. If 3N is 25-27 hcp then make 2♣-2♦-3N=28-30 hcp balanced. Either that or make 3N opening something useful and live with rare 2♣-2♦-4N as 28-30 hcp balanced (which it isn't even defined now I think)
  17. Is closer to a slam try if can find a fit than INV.
  18. Not sure but a lot of people play chess against computers, if more play against bridge computers it's a reflection on the popularity of bridge vs chess. Chess is a deterministic finite game. The number of possibilities is very large. In late 70's or early 80's someone came up with an algorithm which trimmed the possibilities down to a workable level. Then they just had to wait for an improvement in computer hardware. Checkers which has a much smaller finite number of moves and has had computers being unbeatable much earlier than chess computers were even expert level.
  19. 3♠ by responder is like 99.9% 2♠ in my opinion otherwise using 2♠ as potentially 5-card minimum is unplayable. (responder with 3♠ has to raise rd 2.) My pet peave Gib is using pts for it's ♥ singleton in your suit (not that useful) to scounge up enough to make 14+ pts and a 4♦ cuebid. The Walrus would be proud.
  20. doubles (and redoubles) are natural if partner is requested to pass, So takeout doubles are conventional even though nobody uses penalty doubles. neat.
  21. I have a question about how the new GCC regulations affect bidding after 1suit X. The new reg as of May 1 is : 8. TRANSFER RESPONSES (responses after overcalls) where the call shows length or values in the suit of the transfer. Is double considered an overcall in which case transfer responses would be allowed? Or were transfers over doubles already allowed (have seen people using them) under current GCC because of allowed : CONVENTIONAL DOUBLES AND REDOUBLES and responses (including free bids) thereto. I'm thinking artificial free bids allowed after a double. link to new reg http://www.acbl.org/...eb-motions1.pdf link to gcc http://web2.acbl.org...ntion-Chart.pdf
  22. Yes, 4♣ not a good bid. Should bid 3♥ (I suspect shows 4♥ so that out) or 3N (no ♦ stop but what the heck) It does have Kxx ♣ but no shape. with some shape and you having a decent 3♣ bid and 6♣ could be there. QJ♦ isn't pulling full weight I don't think this is worth 3♣. That leaves you back with 1N, long ago NT opening didn't need stoppers. Well you make your bid and take your chances.
  23. Tough hand. you easily could be making 4, 5 or 6 ♠. 4N isn't going to tell you about partner's minor suit holdings. 5♥ is good try but I don't think shows such good minor suit controls. I would try 5♠ to say need partner with good trump and hopefully conveys not to go with a real minimum opening.
  24. Anything ok, declarer can always ask dummy to arrange suits in any order he wants (but trump has to go on declarer left).and can play any card he wants if that also helps he remember so what. Memory aids would be like writing down cards played.
  25. isn't asking about alert itself by definition a demonstrable bridge reason.
