  1. 1) play to the ♠A and lead another ♠ 2) after winning in hand(allowing you to hold the trick looks unproductive :) ) I play a ♦ to the Q and finesse the ♠T and if I see you at the table again when this comes up I will play the reverse of this...maybe :D
  2. Play whatever you use over a 2NT opener with a transfer (assuming you use this) into the opps suit as slam interest.
  3. I have no real objection to West's 2NT call but lots of problems with East's decision concerning his 4♣ call so for me it is mostly East's fault
  4. 1-6-5-1 maybe 0-7-5-1 or 0-6-6-1 6♥ is enough for me
  5. combined assets are 30-31 just bid 3NT and don't worry about it anymore
  6. Absolutely. If all partner needed for game in spades was this, then partner has a 2♣ opening. Just because partner made a game try is no reason for me to forget that partner opened 1♠. This hand rejects all game tries. WHAT!!! I didn't think sane responses were allowed on this forum :)
  7. pass and hope he makes it. Clearly he holds a penalty pass of ♠ and has a ♣ stopper as well...oh and a pretty good hand 18HCP or so
  8. fly straight and narrow. let them do the barrel rolls and loup-de-loups that increase the chance of crashing and burning.
  9. When this came up, I thought 3♥ was obvious. GIB bid 3♠. gotta show that 5th ♠ :)
  10. Depends on whether or not you have a "must save" meta-agreement in place. If so this is an easy pass. Of course this is not free as partner must often guess where he wants to save.
  11. 4NT should suggest the minors in this proportion.
  12. This hand strikes me as a good one for a simul
  13. 4♣ is probably a values bid (DSIP) so you can make a reasonable choice over 4♠. That being said "WHACK"
  14. I rectify AMAP my earlier error and bid 5♥
  15. This is standing up in your chair at a club table and shouting at the top of your lungs "HARVEST TIME."
  16. 75+% west he doesn't want to be declarer with a stiff ♥ bid 2♠ this can't be a suit. 25% east sometimes you just have to grab the bull by the horns over 2♣ just bid 2NT or 3NT whichever is system appropriate.
  17. While technically correct (based on HCP), 3NT does not have a feel that it will play very well at all. It feels like RHO will get into the lead fairly easily in one of the majors and fire a ♣ thru and we end up making our too regular handbasket trip. I just see too many bad possibilities and not enough tricks so I will settle for either 3♦ or X with a preference for X.
  18. I would treat it as a limit raise and as such call 3♦ EDIT: my initial response assumed you restricted your auctions like this to promising 5♦ if you could bid this way the same with 4♦ and 5♣ then I would settle for 2♦
  19. You probably get a lot more exercise since skating on the canals rates to be a lot harder than keeping your duff out of snow while going downhill :)
  20. assumptions for LHO's hand 1. Has less than 15 HCP but near maximum to justify X (certainly more than 12 or would open 1NT) 2. Has at most 4♣ since no 2♣ opening and has the AK 3. Has at most 3♥ based on the bidding (partner's ♥ response) 4. Has at most 4♠ based on the bidding (no 1♠ opening) 5. As a consequence of 2), 3), and 4) has at least 2♦ 6. signals indicate RHO has ♣Q 6. Probably needs 2 of A♥ KQ♦ to justify X Since more probable to have A♥ + H♦ than KQ♦ I go up with the K
  21. somehow the old Broadway cliche for "good luck with that" seems inappropriate :)
  22. the J♦ is just a better choice IMO in this auction as the A♣ requires partner to hold the ♣K while the ♦ rates to work if partner has either the A or the Q
