  1. Colors and scoring ALWAYS matter. IMO your choices are 2NT,3♠, and 4♠
  2. It is not really 0 since you can infer how many ♠ partner has so the KQ♣ are very useful cards. I would think that holding something like ♠none ♥KQJxx ♦KQJxx ♣Axx is reasonable
  3. I will stick with what I consider an obvious 4♥ call
  4. looked at the auction funny (I saw 1♥ (1NT) 2♠ (P). So for the real auction I could live with either X or 3♣
  5. At these colors playing IMPS my best partner (RIP) said I needed a 2♣ opener to raise this call so either the requirements for 2 ♣ have dropped or your partner has a lot more than you expected :)
  6. it is MP and doesn't hurt to be conservative in these positions so 1NT is fine
  7. WHAT!?!?!?!?!? YOU'TE STILL HERE???
  8. Never !?!? so you are making an in tempo pass with ♠xx♥A987♦AKT♣KT98? While I am making an in tempo X. Of course I realize it depends on your definition of a weak NT
  9. Mike has a good argument! You are allowed to override partner's unilateral action at your own risk. Nevertheless it is hard for me to imagine partner trying 5♣ with ♠x ♥QJxx ♦Kx ♣Jxxxxxx. I would expect his scant values to be in his suits and we are covering his short suits with Aces and still have strong♣ so an override makes sense.
  10. Is that because you don't mind playing 3NT without a ♠ stopper? Or you think they should risk a neg X? But I agree reopening is high risk/low reward.
  11. This gets my vote. Those worrying about going down in game on the first two, need to remember that sometimes you need to take uncomfortable risks where this is not odds averse.
  12. the 4♦ bidders are trying to help partner's evaluation as it is best to leave him as captain. Needless to say 4♦ implies (in this auction at least) strong ♥ support and helps him make a better decision if he holds for example ♠void ♥AJTxxxxx ♦JTxx ♣A Nigel's post gets my vote
  13. not sure but then I never pay much attention to that.
  14. ♥ Trying figure out which will score better 4♠ or 3NT. Gut feeling is 3NT as we probably have in the range of 28 to 30 HCP so I will try 3NT as a call now. IMO 2♥ is a bogus bid! Partner may have been cornered into a 2♦ call with 4♥ so I would just love to hear 4♥ from him over 2♥. He has already shown pretty much a minimum with 2♦ so I will not worry about missing slam.
  15. Since this shows a good source of tricks/qbid and I have no qbid to make I will settle for 4♠ as partner promised 4 with a slam try. Sorry Nigel but those hands are grit your teeth 3NT calls.
  16. The other thing you have not mentioned is how bad your ♠ spots are for defending 1 or 2 ♠. The other thing impacted by your lack of good ♠ spots is NT contracts by your side. Nevertheless I 100% agree with bidding 2♦ directly over 1♠ although the call will be somewhat muffled through my gritted teeth.
  17. Best of all the replies and the one with which I most agree
  18. This auction should be a pass or correct auction that promises at the very minimum the ♥32 or maybe the singleton ♥A. In any event 4♥ IMO rates to be a better contract
  19. LHO was having difficulty staying connected or was trying to leave the tournament without completing the hand and didn't realize BBO connects you back to your tournament automatically. The director, since this was the last hand, adjusted the score without warning to 5♠=. No correction was ever made despite immediate complaints about the adjustment. Any comment from other directors? CAVEAT other directors defending this action had best clearly explain why.... to avoid getting added to my ♣list. hand in question traveller
  20. Doesn't matter if it is with a pickup partner because its usefulness is so stunted since no one agrees on many of the followups.
  21. If I would bid the same way with deuces replacing the ♥K and the ♣KJ then surely 6♦ is a WTP
  22. All white IMPS teamgame you are in third seat and pickup ♠K7 ♥Q742 ♦T852 ♣632 you hear this auction P (1♠) P (2♥) P (3♥) P (3♠) P (4♣) P (4♥} P (4NT) P (5♣*) * 41-30 (verbatim) P (6♠) all pass What do you lead?
