  1. I would say not forcing as he knows you cant tell if he is bidding to make or sacrificing.
  2. rethought how the hand would be played and still would call 5♥
  3. basically you will never convince partner you are this good with a 3♥ call. Consequently you need to just grab the bull by the horns and guess that 4♥ is right. And since many play a 3♠ call as a 3 card limit raise of ♠ they can't even use that as a splinter raise of ♥ if you had another Limit Raise call for ♠ you could use a 3♠ call to help the defense :)
  4. How do you feel about being in a grand slam with ♠J75 ♥K7 ♦AKQ42 ♣AKQ ♠AQ8 ♥AJT2 ♦J73 ♣T86
  5. I think the only crime is complaining loudly about the 2♥ call. Nevertheless the 3♥ call is probably warranted by risk/reward
  6. Well the answer should be clear if you would bid 2♠ in this auction holding ♠Q987xx ♥xx ♦xx ♣xxx
  7. North should be charged with lack of intestinal fortitude. He is looking at a highly probable defensive trick. The %age play looks to be to on average expect the opener to produce two defensive tricks at least more than 50% of the time.
  8. doubles in this type of auction should be TOX of the suit where the information you have about the suit is clear. In this case a TOX of ♥ since the ♦ are so nebulous in precision.
  9. Consider the following non-competitive auction where the opener has a balanced hand; 1♦ - 1NT 2NT or 1♦ - 1NT 3NT clearly (at least IMO) this auction is significantly impacted by the change from 1NT=15-17 to something like 12-14
  10. This must be a language issue as I interpret "cold if..." to simply state the requirements to make the contract with all other conditions being irrelevant.
  11. IMPS - 4♦ MP - ...eggs in one basket I have to abstain from voting because you didn't think method of scoring was relevant.
  12. 1) besides being hosed for a call over 3[he} it seems perforce the correct choice. 2)Do I still have any green cards left in my bidding box if I have none I guess I will have to use a red one :)
  13. What is the rush to raise partner if he can't act over a 2♦ rebid where do you think you were going.
  14. Don't you just have to alert that it shows 0+ ♦ and promises 4+♠?
  15. Regarding G: I think the best way for BBO to handle this would to be to assign not averages but to keep a clock on both sides and assign a score value = [1-time used/6 min(altho I thought it was 5)] * 100%. But this may not be possible due to software problems and where time used represents the total bidding time and play time for each side. Other gamesmanship is still possible if one side becomes aware that the other side has exceeded or approached half the time
  16. Well you just need to make an agreement and stand by it. I prefer "A" The others create restrictions on responder who under A has pretty much been given a license to psyche.
  17. okay since I can't abstain (BWS is like a bible) you are forced to call 2♦ and If that is your only forcing call you cannot play that as necessarily promising a fit.
  18. As for 1NT/1♥ I had not seen your simulation showing that it loses 5 or 10 IMPS everytime you try it. As for 2♠ that is how my responses are structured. I don't bid 2♠ with a minimum opener over partner's 1♠ call just because I hold 4. It feels too much like I am just rebidding the same values twice. Consequently when I bid 3♠ over partner's 1♠ call it means we are odds on to make game if he has a normal uncontested(i.e. minimal) 1♠ call and if I make a 4♠ call it means I have the equivalent of a 2♣ opener.
  19. 1. The opponents have erred! 2. for me 2♠ shows this hand EDIT: but not as well as a Direct 1NT/1♥
  20. I would not. You could possibly push opps into a making V game.
  21. It of course depends on your response structure. With this particular hand I would venture 3♠ hoping for extra benefit from the long ♠ to offset the Q♥ not pulling full weight. If the AQ were in the minors this would be an easy call but I can understand others only choosing 2♠ which I would probably choose as well if NV. EDIT : I find the 4♠ bidders LOL as many would say ♠KQx ♥xx♦Kxxx♣Kxxx is a clear TOX in this auction, Well more power to them. Personally I can never manage to have my cake and eat it too but I guess they figured out how to manage that as well.
  22. for the colors and scoring I would just pass. In the first hand if I was V I would venture a stayman call
