  1. EDIT: I misread the post thot partner opened 1NT
  2. Good choice! I didn't mind Adam's 4♣ but I've had too many cowards for pickup partners :) Partner had ♠KJx ♥K ♦xxxx ♣AQxxx
  3. You would really open that in 3rd seat? IMO it is opening the door for the opponents I would try to get the hand passed out unless you play KS or equivalent where you are screwed into opening it. To paraphrase JLoll "competing in the minors vacuums" :)
  4. How many ♥ do you think partner has? How many ♠?
  5. Are you dithering or are you calling? :)
  6. You are Not Vulnerable they are You are playing IMPS. Your system is some version of SAYC As dealer you hold ♠T752 ♥AT93 ♦void ♣K9753 and you successfully resist the urge to preempt 2♦ or open 1 of anything so the auction proceeds You LHO CHO RHO P P 1♣ 1♥ X 2♥ P P ? Do you take a non-pass call?
  7. Does not anyone start off with 2NT or possibly a 2NT rebid after a 2♣ opening?
  8. Partner's actual holding was ♠x ♥AKQT9x ♦AKQxxx ♣void this was good enough to make 6♦(or♥) as both ♦&♥ split 3-1 with each opp holding a singleton red card.
  9. You are playing IMPS. You are Vulnerable they are Not. You are playing some version of SAYC. You hold. ♠872 ♥532 ♦965 ♣KT53 You are in first seat. You successfully resist the urge to open and hear the auction proceed. You LHO CHO RHO P 1♠ 2♠ 4♠ P P 4NT* X *Do you automatically assume partner has lost his marbles? P P 5♦ P ? Do you have a call after the X or after 5♦ or do you let partner do all the grave digging?
  10. I play that a one ♠ response shows 3 or a rock bottom minimum with 4 not interested in competing further. But I still expect to compete to whatever is a reasonable level
  11. In spite of JLall's disapproval IMO the call meets any normal inference into the strength and card length showed. It is after all primarily a preemptive call and like most preemptive calls it makes partner the captain so any action over 3NT has to be from partner. You got a bad score because partner had different rules for 2NT (albeit idiotic).
  12. This will work with opening hand strength or better otherwise you are just preempting over a preempt.
  13. I could tolerate any of the 3 suggested calls pass, X, & 1♥
  14. I'll take this bus if it still has a seat :)
  15. Damn good question!! I guess since it is a contest they just feel they need at least 3 rounds of bidding :)
  16. Yes you are too strong to overcall so X and X again over 4♠. This gets your partner involved and tells him you have the xtra values. Those who are advocating 2♣ is the ONE AND ONLY RIGHT CALL!!! are forgetting they have a partner who could hold 6+♥ or ♦ and only 1 or 2♣.
  17. Well the choices look to be a negative X or 4♥. You will have to decide what you are going to do over 3NT b4 you pick the former
  18. Have I been treated for the gunshot wound I inflicted on my foot(punishment for not opening 1NT!) ? In what 2/1 or SAYC system is this not a 1NT call? Having to fix this after the fact is more difficult so 3NT and hope partner has either 3♥ and they are splitting 44 or that he has a good stopper.

Clearly an electronic voice muzzle needs to be installed on South with an external control viewing his choice of actions. He would have been electrically shocked at least twice and probably 3 times by the external control but he would have learned either to pass more or had his pain threshold substantially increased :) EDIT: my earlier comments were based on not having a clue about the bidding system in use. But learned that clicking on the bids in the <sarcasm /on> oversized <sarcasm /off> bidding diagram shows information.
  20. It is easy to criticize but he never said he was happy about passing, IMV he said he was system limited for choice of calls, and I haven't seen your constructive choice of calls other than admitting you would consider Han's choice, which I also happen to find interesting.
  21. I think not. But playing X here as TOX isn't the problem ...it is partner's pass that I don't want to hear.
