I guess you haven't as far as I'm concerned it is a preemptive call with a higher risk/reward variance. It is best used, as are most preemptive calls, when you are NV vs V.

From the auction I expect dummy to look like 3415 also eminently possible are 34-6,44-5,2416,24-7. As well as hands where dummy is holding 2♦ but I suspect I know where 11 of the ♦ are. So the underlead of the ♠A could be spectacularly successful or a dismal failure. The possible ♦ voids in dummy and partner holding ♦Kx could make an attempted passive lead in ♦ really dismal plus I think you need to make an aggressive lead so that rules out a ♥ or ♣ lead. I will probably guess the ♠A although if I need a swing I could try a small ♠

not sure what JLALL hopes to show by X and 3NT. I think 3NT shows this hand so that's what I call. EDIT: rethot JLALL's X and 3NT presummably he is trying to show a hand stronger than a direct 3NT call. For me this hand does not qualify as I would need 19+.

I use stayman with this level of HCP when I am 5332. The 9 card fit probably plays better than 3NT plus probably more comfortable slam tries in the 29-32 range.

Perhaps we should be asking as well what is 1♠ 1NT 3♦ 3♥ 4♠?

my gut reaction is that 3NT will play better. Partner will need a runnable 6 card ♥ suit probably requiring us to duck our initial ♥ lead but our ♠ suit will usually be sufficiently strong to prevent the opps from setting it up and taking sufficient tricks in it to set our contract.
