  1. Ahhhhh....... I understand. Here's the problem I had last night that got me thinking about this: [hv=d=n&v=e&s=sat932h6da643cak3]133|100|Scoring: MP 1♦ P 1♠ 2♥ 2♠ P ?[/hv] I really like my hand, and would like to bid something stronger than 4♠. I couldn't figure out the best way to make my intentions clear (because I couldn't figure out what the above sequences meant). I suppose I could have just asked "how should I bid next", but I'd like to understand all the possible auctions for when this next comes up. I think your best choice would have been 4♥, as a splinter
  2. 1) unless you have some magical way of discovering that partner holds the ♣Q, 6♦ 2) 3♦ 3) open 2NT instead of 1♦
  3. This assumes partner will use bad tactics. If he just wanted to bid game he should do so over 2♠ not give away information or at least a chance for opps to exchange information (X of 3♦) consequently 3♦ should either be a slam try or game try. As you noted he made no further qbid and consequently I would assume he had nothing else to Q with the implication that he holds very good ♦ and ♠
  4. South is not playing the right major suit game!!
  5. I agree with Mike but eventually I assume it is michaels and pass 3NT. If it is not Michaels I ask for a redeal, complain about the opponents failure to alert, add notes about both opponents and if necessary leave the table
  6. Yes I have run across this as well. When the CHO labels himself an expert or a WC and does this, I promptly move him into my ♣list with the AFI designation so I will recognize him in the future :)
  7. WHAT!!! Why should they go set when we can!! 6♥!!! :)
  8. Well skipping 3♥ should deny a control so I know we don't want to play 3NT. As far as slam goes even if you were in a 30 point slam zone your combined assets are still 26 HCP at most, which rates to make slam anti%age so I would settle for 5♦
  9. I don't blame you. This kind of hand is what makes me an advocate for overcalls with a 4M suit. Since partner could not we probably need to surrender to 3♦
  10. Are you going to post your analysis here? I presume it will need to be in a manner that leaves all participants anonymous if you do. It will also threaten to be among the longest thread in the fora.?!?
  11. clearly this is the case so in reality only 1♥ could be a really crappy suit :P
  12. No, just no clear answer. Nevertheless I can see little advantage in leading a minor so I am left between a ♥ and a ♠. And I see little advantage in solving any trump problem for declarer so I think the T♠ is near obv.
  13. my suggestion which will raise instant howls of protest is make a partnership agreement not to respond 1♠ with this crappy a suit. Generally you only need to do that when you are 44 in the majors.
  14. just be sure you whip and spur the middle three
  15. plausible calls appear to be pass, 3♠, and 3NT. My order of preference is pass>>3NT>>>3♠ GOG
  16. This is the best argument I have heard on this subject so far. I would point that the upcoming holiday is Christmas not Easter
  17. Yes Mr Fish, I have carefully read your post twice and still can't quite find your recommended lead! But even though you don't give an answer you have made an erroneous statement ("The ♥ leaders have uniformly not realized they might be leading into a declarer's 5 card suit ") and a dubious claim ("On the other hand there is nothing that doesn't say partner can't hold ♥KQJTx."). Not sure that many LHOs would bid this way with a void in hearts. well I voted for a ♠ but without any great hope
  18. why don't you take a poll to see
  19. Anyone who thinks they have nailed this lead is either using IM with a Kib watching declarer or is just delusional. The ♥ leaders have uniformly not realized they might be leading into a declarer's 5 card suit and given your spots that really rates to suck. On the other hand there is nothing that doesn't say partner can't hold ♥KQJTx. The spade leaders might be setting up declarer's ♠ suit for 4 tricks but on the other hand he might hold KJT9 over dummy's AQxx. If you want a guarantee on the opening lead I suggest you call Lloyd's of London for an insurance policy. However the premiums may not be cheap relatively speaking
  20. well to me it is 2 "key" cards and a doubleton not hcp
  21. last time I checked that was less than 2210 :)
  22. If I followed this correctly and since it is MP you should try for 5 by playing a ♦ to the A and try to draw the remaining trump by a leading a ♥ to the J followed by the J♦ hopefully dropping the T
