  1. I prefer rounds with two boards to reduce the risk of one bad board dominating the result too much. Increasing the cut rate after round two or three is a nice idea when you want to play one-board-rounds. The first cut will always take place after round two. So when playing one board per round it will be two boards that count and when you play two boards per round it will be four when the first cut takes place. When the cut is zero, no one will be excluded. Survival with less than 5 rounds make little sense to me. Rounds with more than two boards neither if you don't play a very long tourney. With a small number of tables or many boards per round you have to increase the cut to make the idea work. Else it might happen that in some rounds no one will be cut at all. The calculation must be a kind of cumulative but I don't know the exact formula. A not too challenging setting that works good for me is 5 rounds with 2 boards each and cut about 15-20 % with 20 or more tables. Most players love to win and survive. Those with bad results will be excluded in a survival tourney and that might be a benefit when the overall willingness to stay in a tourney until end is bad. One of the problems is that pairs with one player disconnected or running will be eliminated at the end of the round. Most survival hosts explain that in round one or two that players have a chance to understand what happens and are not pissed of. Calling a sub to tables that finished the round and where the pair might be cut is not reasonable as such a cut might end in unpleasant discussions. So you better check the result. Sometimes I sub myself (with a second nick) to find out if the pair will survive and search a real sub in the new round in case the pair survived. Give enough time (7 minutes per board) to finish the boards and maybe help slow tables by adjusting that no one has to wait too long. Some players try to benefit from stalling when the cut is near.
  2. Double in the first round was meant as penalty interest in one or both suits and strength. It was not intended as penalty for 2♦.
  3. cant login in BBO and conn problem in BBF too EDIT: ok now
  4. Yesterday in the club [hv=pc=n&n=sakq6hkjt9dcqt542&d=e&v=e&b=6&a=p1c2d(!s%2B!d%20weak%20or%20strong)d3dpp]133|200[/hv] What should be priority and how do you bid? stoppers in ♠ ask for stoppers in ♦ show 4-card ♥ show ♣ fit invitational/forcing penalty (not really an option with this hand) Edit: System of N/S is 5card major similar to 2/1 strong NT 5533
  5. Asking for the meaning of a bid makes little sense in an individual but it can still happen that opps know each other and there might be an agreed meaning especially when the bid looks artificial. There is nothing wrong with asking for an agreement as you can hardly be sure they have no agreement. The proper answer would have been something like "we don't have an agreement, just common bridge". It is the right way to ask you by clicking the bid and it is your duty to answer in an understandable and friendly way. When you refuse to answer that might make opps angry. Sure it is not acceptable to press the button 50 times but it is not acceptable either that you don't give a proper answer when being asked. It should make no difference if the opp klicked the bid or if they asked in a sentence you liked. Giving two different meanings is misinformation. BTW how can you know who of the opps klicked your bid? You seem to mix up things that you know and those that you assume. That does not make life easier for the TD. Clicking 50 times seems to be an overbid too. I cant remember anyone klicking more that 10 times in the last 5 years. Exaggerations will not help to make a story more convincing to the TD. Maybe I missed your report but did you explain anything to the TD that was called? What exactly happened before you were booted? Have you been helpful in answering any questions when the TD arrived? Did you get a reason why you were booted or are you just assuming?
  6. A countdown clock with seconds especially one where the colour changes when a player is behind the time might help players to identify a time problem before there is nothing left to adapt. That might be a nice improvement for the future. It is great to have different areas at BBO where you can play slow or fast. Players should respect there are different ways to play Bridge as they themselves prefer to. Someone signing up speedball has to play fast, someone signing up a tourney with 7 minutes per board should not complain when he has to wait at the end of the round. Each one has to find the adequate place to play. Players are sometimes extraordinary rude to enforce what they think is convenient. Who never played on a slow device or with bad internet or a husband in background needing care or any other handicap making you slow at typing and clicking will not understand what might slow down players.
  7. What does ZT has to do with adjustments and time allotments? And please explain more in detail where you think the TD`s understanding of the game is part of bad treatment.
  8. Unfortunately normal TDs have no access to chat, not to private chat and not to table chat. Only ACBL directors are authorised by BBO. BBO software is not very supportive to enforce zero tolerance. Reading private chat is a kind of violation of privacy and I would prefer that only works after a TD call and not generally. Without support by BBO software the TDs are mostly trying to do the best they can but that will work only in cooperation with the other players. What can a normal TD do? When the chat was open to the table I can find out by asking the other players. But that might take some time as not all players answer timely when being asked when they answer at all. So I will always ask the player to continue play while I am investigating as good as I can. When I get the confirmation of other players it is easy for me. I will 1) remove the insulting player and 2) put him on my personal blacklist 3) Unfortunately there is no easy way to report to abuse by the TD When opps do not answer or do not confirm or when the insult was done in private chat I try to make the insulting player confess that he was rude but that will not always work. But some are replying in the way "But see how he played or bid..." then I know the caller is right. When there is one word against another word what can I do as TD? 1) I mark the player and add a comment (who complained what complained) 2) I inform the calling player that he has to report the problem to abuse himself as I have no confirmation of what happened. 3) Sometimes I report the problem to abuse by sending the board to them but I have no clue if anyone is doing anything. In case the same player is reported again in my tourney he will be blacklisted. But that is really a lot of documentation to find a player to be blacklisted very rarely. I would really prefer an improvement here as rude players have to be removed from BBO when they are repeatedly violating the rules. My guess is that only a minority of complaints arrive abuse. This way of handling is not really satisfying but I don't see how I could do more. I would really appreciate if that procedure could be simplified as not every TD will invest the time to do all that step by step and the rude players will still be able to play in other tourneys after they are blacklisted from one or more hosts. My advice if a TD asks you to play you better do. Else he will think you refuse and then he has no other choice but to replace you. I really try to avoid that but in the end the tourney has to continue and the player himself has the possibility to report rude behaviour to BBO when I as TD have not means to check it. When you are asked to copy the chat here is how to do: 1) Mark the text of the chat 2) Press <Ctrl> + C to copy it 3) With <Ctrl> + V you can insert the copied text in the chat and send it to the TD or to abuse. When not used to that do it at the end of the tourney and send it to abuse@bridgebase.com
  9. Michael I am sure there are more posts complaining about the card noise then the ones you listed above. Not being able to switch it off without turning sound off completely does not make it much better as you then miss the important infos. I cant remember that anyone was supporting that "card-play-noise". I guess BBO is quite busy with a lot of things and sometimes they do really good stuff like the categories and sometimes they focus on the wrong ones like compatibility. I am sure when users were asked they might get a much better list of topics to improve. Concerning the lobby chat I think it should work that you will get none when you are playing. Mostly I have it disabled. Concerning the club messages, yes it is annoying when your club manager(s) are sending a lot of messages as some do. Most of them dont. But I can live with as I could always set the sender on "ignore" as far as I know.
  10. I wonder if there is any progress on this? I am sure that would be a lovely feature and it seemed to work quite well when we tested it.
  11. Please do not assume other players are unethical when they do not play your system or when they are not familiar with ACBL rules. Your conclusions about me are wrong in many ways.
  12. Don't you think it is better not to judge too much from your own view? There is more than ACBL in the bridge world and even within ACBL there is more but forcing NT the way you expect it. As member of the IAC I don't like it to be condemned when playing a different system then you do yourself. What about when I expect from you that you alert your bids the French way not matter if you know their system or not? Do you really think it is good to make IAC a place where players from other countries or bridge background are no longer welcomed?
  13. You can define up to ten categories and assign them to players. Then change the view to categories and you should have what you want.
  14. Hi Elke, you can see hands from other nicks as well. Only those from some robot tourneys are restricted to the player himself. 1) login with your nick 2) change name in search field
  15. As TD I cannot send the chat as I am normally not at their table when it happens. Sending the hand would at least give you a kind of time stamp but I understood that is not the procedure BBO wants. But most of my reports are hand related anyway.
  16. Just an update for those that are wondering about the right way to contact abuse. 1) Mails do now work for me too, giving me an automated reply. 2) Sending a hand to abuse (description above) makes still sense to me as the majority of my reports are hand related and not concerning insulting. Additional that is much faster as doing it per mail but BBO only wants it for hand records. There I have learned I will never be contacted for feedback or questions.
  17. logged in in BBO My results Options Export deal Send abuse report
  18. diana_eva my reports don't go via mail as that is technically not working (seems to be a problem with the German character set as far as I understood). So since I found the feature to send messages directly in BBO I started reporting to abuse. That is anyway the easiest and fastest method and I don't keep copies of what I send. I know abuse is not giving a follow up but I find it is strange that I never got any reply or question from someone. Are you sure it is normal to get a reply? 1eyedjack You are absolutely right. There was one more card played. I did not copy the hand that was played to avoid the names to be copied too and obviously the last played card is missing now. My fault.
  19. My experience is that subs do not guess much what has been played before they come. Normally when only a small number of tricks is played I give the sub a short summary about the tricks he cannot see but they nearly always start to play without delay and the result of a partially played board is more random as when I adjust. In theory a sub might ask but I cant remember to see that happen. But I agree the less tricks are played the more it makes sense to call a sub and give declarer a chance to play the hand. In this specific situation it was one of the last two tables in an unclocked tourney. That is the moment when everyone wants to come to an end to see the results. Ave is very rarely something that players accept as satisfying. Being in a good contract like here ave would have been a penalty for declarer.
  20. TDs see players being rude quite often. Sometimes players report it to them, sometimes they themselves are the objective of aggression. Especially "expert" players are very sensitive when they don't feel treated well enough. They are insulting partners and opps and I as TD have no way to check what happened. When they get a ruling they try to upgrade their result in the way you can see above. Of course a TD sometimes makes mistakes and I certainly do sometimes especially when under time pressure. When someone complains I try to check and correct if possible but still I might be wrong in my judgement. What I mainly wanted to show with this post is the kind of rudeness that is outside in BBO. I am not sure if reporting to abuse can help. I never got a feedback of any report I sent (fishy hands and rude behaviour mainly against other players). I don't even know if I give them the information they need for their work. So I fear it might be a complete waste of my time to do it. Concerning the personal insult, I am facing this kind of talk more or less regularly. This kind of racism is widespread and in a way I got used to it but maybe that is the wrong way to handle it. That I was thinking of when I posted. Manudude03 I asked him about clubs but he preferred not to answer that question (most players prefer not to answer inconvenient TD questions). Of course I could have changed the result but I don't like to rule in anger, that does no good to me.
  21. [hv=pc=n&s=sakt7hkj9dq94cajt&w=s64hat85djtcq9743&n=sq9hq7632dk7632c2&e=sj8532h4da85ck865&d=n&v=n&b=5&a=pp1np2dp3nppp&p=h5h2h4h9dqdt]399|300[/hv] Today directing a BBO tourney South called me as east did not play I did not want to sub after the hand was already partially played so I adjusted the board to 3NT+1. After that south contacted me and the following discussion started: South: only ace ♦ and ace ♥ South: two more scarlet, not only one for me in board 5, 11 tricks, pls correct your correction TD: you cant make more than +1 without help east takes with ♦A continues with club whenyou have to exit with ♥A they will get another ♣ south: no scarlet, only ace ♦ and ace ♥ to lose, others all mine, trust me, i am really really strong player TD: Please read TD: I do not trust you I have my own eyes to see so tell me what you will do after ♣? South: absolutely not... normally yes, but they played bad two turns... as you can easily sees TD: you are not claiming on the cards but on bad play of opps? you are not really expecting that I as td take that serious? and you tell me you are an expert? South: no, i claimed AFTER bad playing from oopps TD: Where is your ETHOS!!! you got 85 % you can have ave+ instead for a not completed board. do you prefer? South: ok, but stop and read my message TD: I read your message and still find it incredible TD: you cannot claim tricks that you cannot make I will not give you South: ok, scarlet byeeeeee, you just like to hear your voice South: only now i saw you are deutsch, that explain all of your arguing... TD: really? South: yes, i have to remember your horrible past? TD: I dont know what past of mine you are talking about? South: third reich, heil hitler, the shoah... TD: that is not MY past I had to get rid of that story. Sure I should have reacted more relaxed but hate it when players claim to be expert to get a benefit from.
  22. The only way I know is to use BBO login link including the country code at the end. Examples see below English: http://www.bridgebase.com/client/client.php?lang=en French: http://www.bridgebase.com/client/client.php?lang=fr Netherland: http://www.bridgebase.com/client/client.php?lang=nl
  23. I see boards disappearing from my hand folder after loading them to the hand editor.
