  1. Thanks all for voting and giving your thoughts. About 2/3 voted for 3♥. 4♣ and 3♦ got at least 6 votes each. I have to add that it was a BBO tourney (IMP) What happened at the table? West was thinking for a long time before he came with his bid. Lead was ♦A ... [hv=pc=n&s=s9832ht953daj95c4&w=sak65hdkq42c98732&n=sq4hkqj864d863cjt&e=sjt7ha72dt7cakq65&d=e&v=e&b=6&a=1cp1s2hdp6cppp]399|300[/hv]
  2. [hv=pc=n&w=sak65hdkq42c98732&d=e&v=b&b=10&a=1c(3%2B)p1s2hd(Support%20)p]133|200[/hv] Partners support double shows 3 spades without promising extras. With a very weak opening p might have passed.
  3. Just to give you an idea how I as TD try to select subs from the list BBO is providing. I will try to find a "match" for the player when there are not too many open calls I have to serve at the same time. For example I try to find a Chinese player for a remaining player from China or a Polish player when the remaining player is from Poland when I know they are mostly playing a system too different from SAYC or 2/1. I don't like to pair Beginners with Experts as I found that often ends in insulting or running of the other player more often and that will help no one though I know that self rating is flawed. Sometimes I ignore the self rating and will use the masterpoints (another flawed instrument) when the sub has some. Additional I am categorizing subs that I don't want to see in my tourneys when I have them under suspicion of rude behavior or too bad tourney completion rate and those that made it on my blacklist are categorized in black and I will certainly never invite. But not all TDs are doing that the same way. I guess the following and ignore list might be in heavy use also. Anyway less and less subs accept or reject invitations timely (maybe BBO has numbers for that) and sometimes I am just happy when anyone is accepting after more than 10 invitations before the play is stuck. So it will not help you to know how many subs registered before you as a lot of them are not really available.
  4. LAW 61 "3. Defenders may ask declarer and, unless prohibited by the Regulating Authority, may ask one another (at the risk of creating unauthorized information)." My NBO as regulating authority decided to forbid questioning partner as defenders. When still asking though not allowed the played card has to be corrected but rectification takes place as if a revoke has happened.
  5. I don't think it is a good idea to ask during the bidding though you can shortly agree at the beginning of the round after you had a look at partners profile. Mostly it says something like "your card" maybe adding something about carding. But there is no time for long discussions. Misunderstandings are unavoidable when playing individuals but it is charming too. I cant tell you what others do but when I play an individual first I check what my partner has in his profile and try to play accordingly especially when the partner is beginner or intermediate. When you have advanced in your profile your partner might expect you to know the common conventions. I would always expect that players know major transfers as long as they don't have a note in their CC telling you they don't play it. So when you do not want to play minor transfers or RKCB for example you might give a hint.
  6. Agree, very nice new feature and I can hardly wait to run one of these tourneys myself. Result and points are correct but IMPs are not at "My hands". They seem to be calculated the same as in normal IMP tourneys. But at least I can see what others played. When looking at "Hands and results" I see the IMPs (correct) calculated for the team matches. Example board 6 6NT bid and made by our opps and at the other table 6♥ by our teammates "My hands" -6.45 IMPs "Hands and results" 0 IMPs
  7. I can't see the boards at my hands from tourney #8011 SWISS TEAM TOURNAMENT telling me invalid input? http://www.bridgebase.com/myhands/hands.php?tourney=TT:8011:,b=3,r=4,v=2:,-1435735826-
  8. Don't like it. What tourneys will be excluded from view and why?
  9. [hv=pc=n&n=skqt52hak876dk2cq&d=s&v=e&b=3&a=p1s]133|200[/hv] Should I bid and if yes what to bid? When you do not bid now it will come back to you with [hv=d=s&v=e&b=3&a=p1sp2spp]133|100[/hv]
  10. 4♠-1 39 %5♠-2 68 % 5♠X -2 96 %
  11. Yes you certainly could but it should not work very often when the TD/host makes notes. But I cant think of a rule to inform the opps. Not commenting on the legality of prohibiting psyches you cannot imagine how many players are upset when psyche bidding is not forbidden.
  12. MP BBO tourney What would you lead? Alternatives? [hv=pc=n&s=s843hkqt765dcat43&d=e&v=n&b=2&a=1sp2sd4s5hpp5sdppp]133|200[/hv]
  13. Once the invisible contacted you, you can chat with him/her. But that does not work when using the "chat" line in the profile. That annoyingly creates a mail instead of chat and the text is gone. That could really be improved.
  14. I had problems too with the visibility until they gave more options. You can change the setup in the web based version that cards are shown bigger and same for chat.
  15. When you open a table in the lower left you find the checkbox to activate "Permission required to join" for players. Alternative you can add "+slow+" to the table description. That should work too.
  16. This time I will present different bidding sequences and want to know what they should show. Actually we had a hand where we discussed later without result. North passing [hv=d=n&v=0&b=1&a=pp1ddp1s2dpp2hp]133|100[/hv][hv=d=n&v=0&b=1&a=pp1ddp1h2dpp2s]133|100[/hv][hv=d=n&v=0&b=1&a=pp1ddp2d]133|100[/hv] North raising [hv=d=n&v=0&b=1&a=pp1dd2d2s3dpp3h4d]133|100[/hv][hv=d=n&v=0&b=1&a=pp1dd2d3dp]133|100[/hv][hv=d=n&v=0&b=1&a=pp1dd2d2h3dpp3s]133|100[/hv][hv=d=n&v=0&b=1&a=pp1dd2dd]133|100[/hv] Please correct me when I am wrong. Especially I want to know if any of these bidding sequences is promising 5/4 in majors. EDIT: Now added all that I wanted to post originally.
  17. Unfortunately the hands do not fit very well. My choice would have been 2♥ too but is there an upper limit for a splinter bid? At the table they started with 2NT and ended in 5♠ for -1. Sorry I don't have the E/W hands. [hv=pc=n&s=sat62hkjt642d5ca7&n=skq854h5dkj43cqj6&d=n&v=0&b=1&a=1sp]266|200[/hv]
  18. MP 2/1 [hv=pc=n&s=sat62hkjt642d5ca7&d=n&v=0&b=1&a=1sp]133|200[/hv] Not sure which bid to prefer. EDIT: corrected typo 2♦ --> 4♦
  19. Fourth suit forcing -- 4+ ♠; 8+ HCP; forcing to 3N
  20. Adjust your skill level to intermediate or higher.
  21. We have some situations where 4♣ or 4♦ should be understood as RKCB and others where it is initiating a cue bidding sequence. That works very well without opponents interfering. Sorry we are not so sophisticated in our agreements to have follow ups for each possible situation with opponents interfering. But we have quite clear rules when a 4m bid is RKCB. One of them is whenever 3NT was bid to play and the partner bids 4m this is RKCB on basis of that minor and not a cue. Maybe that is a bad rule I don't know but that is the agreement we have. I wouldn't play that in a pickup partnership undiscussed. I did not need any cues from her after she bid 3NT and promised a ♠ stopper. But I needed that info to have a safe rescue in 4NT if she had only one ace. So all I wanted to know after 3NT was the number of aces.
