  2. Using the display of big cards reduced the number of my misclicks in card play significantly. On the other hand that reduced the size of the bidding box and I found it useful to activate the confirming option for bidding. I can afford about 4 additional clicks per board without being stressed. Concerning the sound I strongly agree. The noise of the cards is not only annoying I cant see any benefit from it. So my request would be to remove the sound for the card play. What I am missing is 1) The possibility to find players for certain criteria like country skill level et al. 2) A noise when someone enters the room 3) The possibility to select a sub in tourneys for a missing partner 4) The profile of players (including TCR, BCR, comments, friend, enemy and category) when being asked to play with as sub or inviting or being invited to tourney or team match 5) Tables where I can set the deal source for training purposes (until now for bidding and teaching table only) 6) Possibility to save deal settings in random deals and activate them for training
  3. :) I forgot to mention - I did change that already for the kind of tourney where this happened. The tourney description is limited so I can only give a short rule. Any better wording appreciated.
  4. What I take for me as BBO-TD is: Players starting at BBO might not be familiar with world-alert-rules that are not even defined. So I will not punish someone quite new to BBO using his national rules instead but inform him how to do better in future. I think it would be a good idea if BBO could add a few examples to their general advice "in doubt you better alert". It might be helpful to name some examples like precision bids and maybe the strong 2♦ of SEF as well to make it easier for players that come from all over the world to know when they should be in doubt. In the end there is hardly any basis for penalty at all. I cannot follow your argumentation Trinidad. I would have to ask for much more alerts in BBO as we actually see if I did and I am not going to make a fool out of me by doing so. You would be forced to alert bids like regular Stayman, w2, strong 2♣ openings, 1♦ opening with three cards as well with the same argumentation and for a lot of doubles and pass too. But nobody is punished for not alerting those bids.
  5. Thanks Jnfri for clarification of the French alert rules. @Bbradley62 thanks for your information. Tempered players are something a TD is used to. ;)
  6. South had 500 logins and North 600, both registered at the same day half a year ago. Not absolutely new but not really experienced at BBO. West had 2600 logins, first registered 2013 and his profile says:
  7. This happened at the table: I told North and South that they have to alert 2♦ in future and made notes that I will know next time. I asked West what he would have done different when the bid had been alerted but did not get an useful answer. He only repeatedly asked for penalty getting more and more in rage. I did not see the damage though I must admit that play of clubs might be more tricky after a different lead. I ruled result stands. West run away sending some very unpleasant messages to me before and afterwards. That ended in adding him to the blacklist.
  8. Please don't misunderstand. It is not the question if I should or would alert. The problem is that players from different nations have a different understanding of what is normal and what not. The problem is they might have no doubt about a bid that is alertable for others. And my personal problem is how to handle that as TD in a good way. I really see that as dilemma especially when I try to make a good job. For SEF problem it would still be helpful if a player from France could report if the 2♦ opening is alertable or not. IMO, you should alert natural bids of a strength that opponents might not expect (e.g. probably, almost any 2-bid). With players of different ability and nationality, it would be hard to formulate specific rules. "If you aren't sure, then you should alert" is clear enough for practical purposes. Why? It is not allowed to alert those openings in German. Why should you expect a normal club player not too experienced at BBO, not playing with others than German partners to know that someone else is expecting this bid to be alerted? There might simply be no doubt.
  9. For Forum D players 2♦ is still alertable. I would clearly not accept a missing alert from German players. But I would have to accept a strong but natural 2♦, 2♥ or 2♠ opening from them without alert. For openings 1♣ and 2♣ in a strong club style I would expect they will be alerted but to be honest I am not 100 % sure that they are alertable in all relevant countries (China, Poland?).
  10. That is something I really would like to know if there is a kind of international alert regulation that can be set? If yes where can I find details? I know self alerting is standard in BBO but is the bid still alertable when it is not in the country of the players? I cannot expect that all players know international standards if there are any? Does anyone knows if 2♦ is alertable in France? It definitely belongs to SEF. Yes it happened online - I only deleted the names of the players. There was nothing included in the tourney description like forbidding psyche bidding or referring to ACBL rules or anything like that. But of course I would like to run the tourneys with alert regulations.

North/South played French Standard and had the Agreement of 2♦ strongest opening but did not alert which I guess is normal in France (not sure). No CC loaded but both players had "Standard francais" in their profile without any further comments. No additional rules or restrictions defined in the tourney. What is the correct way to handle the call?
  12. Since a couple of days I am facing problems in BBO each time when there is an advertising coming from www.myvideo.de. Each time when that ad is loaded BBO software slows down (slow mouse, not accepting the clicks, very slow program execution). Additional in the bottom of the screen I can see internet addresses that are going to be loaded. It seems the browswer is so busy to load all the sites that are started by the ad that there are no free resources to run the bbo flash any more in a timely manner. Additional there is music/video started making noises. I cant stop that without logging out from BBO. When the next ad loads the problem vanishes and everything works like it should but you never know how long that will take. Who can help to block that kind of ad? I do understand that BBO is a free software and I accept that there must be advertisement to earn some money but the ad should not be too heavy. Static ads very much appreciated but noiseless is a real must. When I try to direct a tourney. I don't "hear" the TD calls any more and I am not able to react timely to any calls due to both "not hearing" and "very poor performance". When that will happen in the beginning of a tourney I have no chance to do that in an acceptable way. I am facing the problem with both browsers that I use for BBO (IE and chrome) and I never saw that problem with any other ad up to now.
  13. I do understand that players like to continue the tourney with the partner they started but what do you think makes subs willing to play in a tourney? Do you think they want to come in the middle of a board to play a couple of cards before they are kicked out again? Everyone who is running tourneys on BBO is happy to have subs available and we must be grateful that they are helping. Without them no tourney could be run until the end. It is a question of politeness to treat them with respect. So when it is too awful for you to thank the sub and ask him if he minds to be replaced by the original player for your personal comfort why do you think anyone else should do that for you?
  14. The problem is that you have to give at least one answer. So simply add "no alternative" in the second part of the poll.
  15. If there is a national standard established. When I refer to the clubs where I play I can tell you that there is a wide variety of systems and no standard system (at least 4 versions of Forum, Große-Kleine-Treff, Kleine Treff, so called Standard American, Acol, Swiss Acol, 2/1 Turkish style, Precision, even Truscott found the way to our club last week). So where is the compatibility bonus coming from?
  16. When mainly playing in a closed group of players (main hall, team matches) the rating of bboskill can at most show you the rating within this group. Other habits like playing as sub or when being tired or coaching or only playing with a good partner or playing while the baby is around or ... will have a big influence too. It is too simple to just take the results of my-hands to create rating of skill.
  17. Version 1.48f - please post feedback and suggestions here New version of BBO released - Partner compatibility Version 1.48f
  18. I played with a number of proposed players but as long as there are no more hits than one out of ten I can just throw a coin. I wonder if others tried and had more luck.
  19. Factors that could make sense for me: similar completion rates for tourneys or main bridge club similar speed in using the claim button similar keywords in profile (better would be a catalogue of what is in scope and what you prefer) similar avg points per hand selfrating of skill Possibility to reduce the compatibility rating (don't want to play with again) Factors that do not make much sense for me: number of friends I have or don't have number of enemies I have or don't have number of masterpoints (that mainly shows if you played the specific tournaments or not) language not only for the bug being simply copied from the IP code country not only for the bug being simply copied from the IP code starriness Instead of an increasing friend list I find assigning categories to players a very good way to see if I want to play with them again or not. I reduced the number of friends significant since that is available. Enemies I am using very rarely as it is not good when a TD is not able to talk to enemies. I can hardly believe that good partners should have a similar way to work with friends/enemies/categories.
  20. I wonder that a lot of players show up with 2 stars that do not seem to be compatible at all. Could the reason be they use German as language in BBO?
  21. I like the idea but I guess it is difficult to make a good ranking. You would need more information in the profile concerning preferred system, importance of carding and that stuff. I am not so glad with high weighting of nationality, language or being on the friends list. One of the things I like very much on BBO is the variety of nationalities that you can meet here. On my friends list there are a lot of players I rarely play with but kib their play sometimes as I know they are good players. I just checked a couple of players I am playing with regularly and the compability ranking does not fit with what I think it should.
  22. Maybe there is a technical solution for that when the filter option in the forum setup is enabled. At least I know that from another forum that seems to use the same forum software (maybe another release). There I can exclude forums or sub forums that I do not like to follow.
  23. What kind of GIB will be in use when I buy the advanced GIB and open a teaching or bidding table?
  24. Thanks good hint - found the checkbox in the IE setup (add ons).
