  1. LOL that was good for them. I always wonder what a committee or TD would rule on this when delcarer gets it wrong? it would seem like it might be a NO LOSE situation for delcarer.
  2. I know in Reno it used to be in the ACBL directors staff room where the computers and staff are, it was pretty crowded and chaotic as people were always coming and going....at some sectionals I have seen them just at a table in a corner somewhere at the playing site
  3. doesnt the ACBL site where they do the appeals for the Nationals show how people on the AC came to their conclusion. Generally these AC are going on after midnight or between sessions, so they will come to an agreement within a reasonable amount of time. after appearing you can generally just ask some of the members of the AC they will explain why they did what they did.
  4. yes I noticed the other day in the bidding room a 4NT actually showed up as take out finally thanks
  5. must be the law of total tricks
  6. I know in our club game the games are stratified there is usually no seeding done as older people all want NS if you want I can send you a link to our bridge webs site where you can see the results
  7. True but one hand you can say in a 13 table field you could lose 100+imps on one hand, so not all hands are created equal,(same as in cross imps) but penalty is more severe
  8. 3NT-2 -200 on ♠lead [hv=pc=n&n=sk8hqjdqj7ckqt864&d=s&v=n&b=15&a=1d2s3cp3sp3nppp]133|200[/hv] this was the actual auction and the North Hand
  9. it can be part of the game called table presence....but suppose opp hitches with nothing. Remember a club game in Omaha where someone did Q ask after RKCB, and opp holding Q trump asked if the partner of the bidder had it!!!! now how would you read that one???? its a fair question, but how misleading is it???
  10. not on the ones I have been on generally they come to a consensus, and majority rules
  11. what do most think is best option on this hand? [hv=pc=n&s=sj75ha98dakt2cj75&d=s&v=n&b=15&a=1d2s3cp]133|200[/hv]
  12. ACBL is in the business of selling points Case: 1...club game 14 tables stratified 9/14 pairs got awards 2...sectional 2session pairs we come in 3rd overall get less than pair who come in first in B strata...both with 1500Mp Of course BBO gets to cash in on this too cause it sells
  13. Some of the best zip swiss was when they used yo have free beer......Des Moines, IA 1981 Barry Crane was playing against this elderly couple who seemed like they haf just parked their massey ferguson tractor outside....Barry got doubled for -800...at end of hand old farmer guy said "I dont know who younare but you played that hand almost as good as my wife does"......kibbers broke out laughing and left
  14. So much for screens  Anyway this is not in the spirit of the game
  15. I always liked total imp scoring where you are compared on imps to each pair, not average Puts a premium on game and slam bidding.
  16. Hi use the bidding room alot for bidding practice with bots sometimes they come up with some real weird auctions, I would assume their bidding database is the same at the web browser bots....maybe not I dont know...here was one weird one[hv=d=n&v=0&b=1&a=p1h1s2dp3cp4dp4sppp]133|100[/hv] i over called on akqxx♠ east did have something like 10xxx♠
  17. thanks it was posted along time ago, in response to s similar auction which I believe was a 2NT opening so the retransfer was at the four level thats why I asked
  18. I tend to agree with Phil on his above points...I just wish that when the player doing this isnt a "c" player that sometimes the TD would come down a little harder on them especially when they have more experience. the problem in acbl land is it used to be quite a status to have over 1000MPs(70's/80's) now having that many points doesnt mean competence. Alot of players achieve this results only aginst their lower level peers with out ever playing against higher ranked players. Alot of times these type of things happen against their peers(lower level players) and these people both offending and nonoffending arent even aware of the ramifications of what happens at the table in these situations. Local TDs are usually tring to make sure the seats are filled at the club, so they generally dont want to offend the weaker players they most of the time know the higher players can take it.
  19. had a hand come up with me in team game on monday at trick 7 asked who had K♦ after pulling trump and said it right hand opp has it you get trick and I only make 10 if left hand opp has it you dont get it and I make 11....AQJXX♦ was in dummy player complained to me that I should play it out....generally the better the player the less this is going to happen. but TD should see that on post declarer by normal play has the rest of the tricks I dont think its analgous to an outstanding trump being out
  20. generally through discussion they do come to a consensus, yes more or less a vote
  21. had this one come up in GNT game yesterday was curious what other would do with this gem.[hv=pc=n&s=s9872hkj4dk53cq94&d=n&v=b&b=13&a=1d3sppdp]133|200[/hv] I passed and the 9♣was the setting trick for a whole 3 imp gain just a few more gray hairs added
  22. Weird that one would even look but is bizarre
  23. SJ Simon Why You Lose at Bridge The unlucky expert
  24. Ditto Sort of like having a football ref who wont call offsides when the opps are offsides Save your money and spend it on GIB
  25. I know this might be hard to believe but most of the players at this club would have opene 2♣ without the A♣ they all play sort of bastardized 4 losers for opening 2♣ so change the A♣ to the 9♣ and they would open 2♣...ouch
