[hv=pc=n&n=s9842hj4d9543cqj6&d=w&v=n&b=12&a=1np2dp2hp3np4hppp]133|200[/hv] just curious at to what most people would lead at matchpoints thanks
-
interesting thread but I am still wondering what the fuss is about what is par only because what is its relevance to matchpoints or imp results unless you are being compared to what the par result should be? yesterday played in a ll 1/2 table game, there were 36 boards in play 8 being top went through each board and compared matchpoint results for par results: score 129.5 avg 144 for N/S for the 36 boards imps could be more drastic as there are quite a few hands where what is par is flat 0 (zero) at matchpoints could be more at imps I was playing in a tournament this summer with a 10,000 plus player (Richard Potter) and we got into this discussion on how worhtless the par result marking on the hand records really was....so after that discussion I started doing this for club games at that time and noticed there def. is a luck of the draw on which direction you sit for a particular round when comparing to par.

in ACBL quite a few pairs play 2/1 so 2♣ to start invitational process is pretty standard I would find it hard to believe that a Tournament TD would find any of this objectionable unless we were playing in some limited game like 0-300 masterpoints.

snooze you lose 2 quicks 6 card suit 11 HCP I think most people would open 1♥ gib was no better placed after north bid 1NT
-
yes I understand that but at least you have a understanding with a partner
-
I think what is interesting is to go to regional results where the hand records are posted with the travelers and see what par gets you in relation to avg matchpoint results par doesnt necessarily mean avg or avg plus there are still alot of other variables involved
-
my understanding that double was penalties and 4NT was takeout most of the ACBL conv cards usually play x as takeout thru 4♥ but this is generally what alot of partnerships play, i fully understand that GIB doesnt do this but i like to torture myself by bidding it  this was a quick link I found http://en.allexperts.com/q/Bridge-other-card-2226/2012/5/bridge-question-4.htm

from other threads if you had opened two clubs and rebid 2nt it probably would have passed

another rant about wk 2bids
pigpenz replied to mike777's topic in General Bridge Discussion (not BBO-specific)
I used to play weak twos that showed only five card suit and four card side suit we alerted it we played 2♦ showed diamonds/hearts or diamond/clubs 2♥ showed hearts/spades or hearts/clubs 2♠ showed spades with a minor anchor suits were five cards in order to fulfill acbl regs for a weak two bid we alerted cause they were not your typical weak two bids Barry Crane used to frequently open 4 card suits as a weak two, little alone whatever Bergen and Cohen did later on, ACBL made up the 5-5 rule to try and reel this type of stuff in. -
isnt the deep finesse anaylysis different that what the par result is? if DF says 6♥making is normal +1430, but 6♠x other way -4 -1100 or even -5 -1400 then that is the par I would take par assumes that the most perfect score is obtained either on offense or defense. Where Deep Finesse analaysis or DD just says what contracts can make.

Software for a slightly more involved statistical check of PBN files
pigpenz replied to BudH's topic in Offline Bridge
if you wanted to study hands from BBO Stephen Picketts bridge browser program would be great but I dont think there is any new data from BBO or OKBridge since 2007 but the data before that is probably millions of hands it just depends on what type of hand information you are looking for -
and what makes you thin the TD is the one to sort it out and why would you be entitled to an average plus. there would have to be alot of circumstances for that too incur and they would almost have to along the lines that one partner knew the other was psyching and didnt bid his hand. Psyching is legal unless its stated in the conditions of contest, which most likely would only be in a club game or novice game. I was a District Recorder....at a tournament level all you can do is report it and if there is a record that this pair does this regularly you might get some address but I doubt it
-
why is that? alot of people know better when they do things at the table, if not they need to learn calling the TD is for that

Do you enjoy barometer scoring at pairs?
pigpenz replied to RunemPard's topic in General Bridge Discussion (not BBO-specific)
Just saw the Sacramento regional is having one in Fef qual and final is barometer...in Feb 2013 a club with a duplicating machine could have all sorts of barometers I guess if you could afford the machine you could afford the sets of boards -
haha....the free robot dupes  sometimes you will see players open 1NT on 20 hcp I know on my ipad its hard to see what your bids mean cause you have to swipe softly getting gibs bids out of the way to see auction is another problem, but generally in these games the robot probably gave u cause he found someone who bids worse than he(GIB) does
-
there are alot of instances where the explanation is never gonna fit with the bid generally on these hands you usually end up playing 4NT down 3-5 which comes out a plus when they make game, but there are still too many hands where the insurance is cheap to bid or the hand still belongs to your side

pigpenz replied to RunemPard's topic in General Bridge Discussion (not BBO-specific)
the sacramento regional back in the 80 always had a barometer event on friday qualifying to finals with 50 top in finals...it was great then someone came up with flighted KOs and matchpoints sort of went away <_< -
Bidding with GIB robot
pigpenz replied to frank0's topic in Intermediate and Advanced Bridge Discussion
post in the GIB forum youll probably get a few more responses from those who play with the robots all the time -
Ikeep trying hoping that eventually it will get fixed and be played as takeout and I keep playing 4NT  but isnt this standard x=penalty 4NT=takeout over 4 spade bids? [hv=pc=n&s=s7hj654dkqt6cat53&d=s&v=e&b=3&a=p2sp4s4nppp]133|200[/hv]
-
yes and you would think GIB might bid 3♦ over 2♥ alot of humans might open 3♦ on the east hand
-
Don't see this very often in live bridge
pigpenz replied to losercover's topic in GIB Robot Discussion
maybe it would be nice then if there were full 26 board matches at the speed people play in these it would only take an hour would take care of the lack of variance in these short games -
What are the odds?
pigpenz replied to steve2005's topic in General Bridge Discussion (not BBO-specific)
should be able to plug this into Pavliceks suit odds calculator for each condition -
How to avoid being fixed by bad players?
pigpenz replied to Balrog49's topic in General Bridge Discussion (not BBO-specific)
had hand come up in club game couldnt touch 4♠ at all opps were also missing AK♥ [hv=pc=n&w=sak32hj2d74caqt52&e=s87654hq43da32ckj&d=n&v=e&b=9&a=pp2d3cp3sp4sppp]266|200[/hv] same pair next hand with 6♥ down one next hand on auction of [hv=pc=n&s=st2hdat632cqjt987&w=s9875hajt542dkqca&d=e&v=e&b=6&a=1s2n3h4d4hp4np5dd6hppp]266|200[/hv] so what goes around comes around opps dont play unusual vs unusual or RKCB the 3♥ call took about 2 minutes to be made  so what Justin says there is no right way, you just try to keep stats or the odds in your favor -
BBO Mobile App Version 3.50 Comments Thread
pigpenz replied to fred's topic in Suggestions for the Software
for me at last when playing with GIBs I can swipe to see what bids will mean before I make them couldnt do it very well on previous releases, maybe its from guitar callouses, seriously also can now log onto and pick GIBs for other seats when its rented on my account what version of the GIBs are the ones with the mobile app -
glad to see GIB is testing another GIB with one of his bids! this seems similar to when GIB makes a negative double when you are playing with him and you support on a 3 card suit and with him holding four card support he bids the other 4 card suit instead of passing or raising.....I guess its a test
