learning 2 over 1
pigpenz replied to amre_man's topic in General Bridge Discussion (not BBO-specific)
probably the best books are Max Hardy's books on 2/1 and Aces Scientific by Bobby Goldman. Max later editions #3 are probably easier to read just from the way the print is (fonts etc) -
even at our club there is almost always one board scored incorrectly per game. EW have to OK but don't always look, and problems arise if North starts to enter in wrong scored and has to change. not counting the cost, its really nice but I am guessing everything must run about 3-5K$ USA? dealing machine plus wireless scoring.
-
so the ruling will be dependent upon the result? I always thought regardless of the other hands there had to be a logical alternative that a good player would make, say assuming 3♥ could be a cue bid for ♦'s in most cases I thought 4♦ would still be a logical call for East.
-
I know where I live in northern California we have gone to wireless scorers and dealing machines its pretty nice hand records with all the results online http://www.bridgewebs.com/redding/ this is an example of what can be done with them its pretty nice especially when they get the hand records correct...LOL

[hv=pc=n&e=sq7haq5dat75ca532&d=n&v=e&b=9&a=p1nd2dp3dp3hp4hppp]133|200|double shows major and minor[/hv] had this one come up in club game yesterday, there was no alert on 2♦ call, after hand asked East how they interpted the 2♦call and their answer was "just a bid". if TD is called what would the normal ruling be?
-
probably for the same reason that there are never updates for those that own the commercial version of GIB. There has to be a monetary reason for it, in order for it to happen. I believe Ginsberg sold the rights to BBO who develop it for BBO and tend to use it for the their bot gaming. If they were to develop it to sell on the open market then I would assume they would enter events like that.

Rubber Bridge Hand
pigpenz replied to pigpenz's topic in Intermediate and Advanced Bridge Discussion
a lot depends on style I prefer constructive two bids 2/3 top honors etc so I would expect partner to have AK♥ K♠ which would be pretty robust vuln 2 bid. put some contraints for two bid in dealermaster pro contracts at 4 and 5 level are pretty much same but 6NT beats 6♥ by 13%, 58% to 45%. oh what a lost art rubber bridge is  -
[hv=pc=n&s=saj542hqdakjcakqj&d=n&v=b&b=13&a=2hp2np3sp]133|200[/hv] what would you go for next bid? at rubber bridge game last night 3♠ showed K♠ if you KeyCard you find out partner has one Key Card
-
probably the fourth trump has something to do with the call also hedging it towards the limit raise vs raise in competition
-
ill give 3 spades a call
-
i think descripton is pretty good shows four card support so 4+6=10 cards unless you opened 5 card suit and could be bad hand also with 4 card support so maybe it should say 10 cards 0+hcp
-
I assume its similar to unusual vs unusual 3♠ would just be competitive 3♥ limit raise since we know they have hearts 3♣♦ are some form of game forcing bid in that suit
-
yes it is, cause alot of the times the hands still belong to the opponents

what I was told was that it was at trick 11 should there then be a procedural penalty against the pair that fouled the board? or should it only be based on their level of expertise, i have no idea wether they were a novice or advanced player. thanks for your fast reply
-
on committees I have served on they take into account your level of expertise generally the committee is put together by the Head TD, since most of the time the committee may be meeting on several boards or issues.
-
at the club game today there was a fouled board where one hand had 12 cards and the other 14 by the time the players figured it out it was trick 10 or so. the TD let the result the contract was headed for, how you determine that I dont know. what should the ruling be according to the laws? i would assign avg+/avg- i assume it was the same pair direction not both pairs. thanks in advance
-
i had noticed this also rebooted and cleared memory
-
looks like to me that the 4♦ lets north know that they have no wasted values, unless its done on a singleton K or A its amazing that GIB can over evaluate for a 1NT opening and invite game on 7 hcp and here cant handle the evulation properly
-
maybe they should give black and blue points for playing with GIB
-
At Medford, Oregon regional 2 session open pairs flt A paid 9 Gold Points for first overall hardly worth all the money it takes to go play, def expensive!!! so take that $20 spend online good chance you might win just as many points. the days are gone of winning pairs events and them paying over 40+ points, that went away with bracketed KO's so on a money per point rate online is def wiser.
-
I remember watching Mike Passell back in Reno in KO's with nothing just transfer to 4 card suit problem with GIB is that say you have crappy 8 or 7 hcp, opps balance and you bid 2NT maybe to make or down one, GIB will still take it as inivational and most of the time bid 3NT. Its just like there is no such thing as a 4NT takeout over 4♥ or 4♠

there was a hand that I posted in the expert forums[hv=pc=n&n=s875hkqj65dj93cq2&d=n&v=0&b=1&a=pp1np2dp2np]133|200[/hv] where there was a super accept made in this case the 2NT showed 3433 hand max values. the statistics were impressive on a normal hand for the NT hand 4♥62% 3NT 22% with the 3433 hand it reversed 4♥25% 3NT 60% I know this doesnt do much for bidding with GIB but mabe he is giving the NT opener the final choice
-
I just got back from the regional in oregon and playing with the bots def improves your declarer play defending thats another story.....the bots always have their bids people dont
-
just get the old version download it and change the settings for the longest thinking it will get about as close to real bridge as you can get
