  1. ditto. Over 9+ card fits, no more quantitative.
  2. Partner also heard 5♠ and is *still* trying for grand. I don't understand this argument. Because I don't have extra for my 5S: no first control in any suit.
  3. First hand. It's OK to open and I can accept a pass as well. It is not a white/black question. Second hand. 1D is the automatic opening. 1H and 2C bids are normal. I think the worst bid is 4D. I would bid 3H, with 3D as a close alternative.
  4. 5S already bid my hand. I now bbid 6S over 6H.
  5. Well, pd might think 4S was to play and pass with 3♠s and 2♦s. :(
  6. I think your pd owed you a raise.
  7. I agree that 1D-2H shows 5Ds and 4Hs (90% of the time). But I can accept 2H on this hand. There is no perfect rebid, 2N would show 2♠s 90.001% of the time.
  8. Indeed. indeed to indeed, or to "wtp".
  9. Me either. 4♦ is so straightforward.
  10. Well, I would take a slight different route. I would ruff one H only. If H were 4-1, unless RHO has 1 heart and 3 clubs, to ruff second H wouldn't help. 1. ruff in dummy 2. ruff H in hand 3. C to Q 4&5. Draw two more rounds of trumps (if trumps are 4-1, we are dead). 6. claim (D KJ as entry to H).
  11. ditto. North had no reason to not believe pd's 3NT. After all, he bid 2H there are wastage on majors.
  12. Totally agree. I would choose 3S. 4S is my second choice, betting pd could provide 2 tricks or opps have some kind of contract.
  13. 2.5 ♦, seriously. I have too much playing tricks and too little defensive values.
  14. 2C. 1S as the second choice. 2S shows at least 6+ spades and tends to deny H support.
  15. Double for sure. Any cards pd has would be useful. I would have opened 1NT though.
  16. Without discussion, I would assume response dbl denies 4 ♠s. Even so, I don't 3S is that bad. pd would know I (usually) don't have 5 ♠s. Unless pd has a minimum hand and dbl is for competitive only, the bidding would not die at 3S.
  17. The problem with 3S is, pd would not dare to cue-bid 4C, looking at his poor hearts holding and S wastes, even if he has CA. The problem with 2D is, it would be hard to convince him of the solid heart support and void spades later. The problem with 2NT is, you would probably hear 3D if he has a stiff. When that happens, it would be very difficult to convince him of void spades and all you want is club control. I would choose between 3D and 6H. The problem with 3D is that, you may need diamond finesse to make slam, and club lead would distroy your chance when the finesse loses. So I prefer a shoot at 6H. It may miss a cold grand (hard to find out anyway), but increase your chance to make.
  18. 1♣-1♥ 1NT-2♠ Spades must be longer than hearts- if you play some form of checkback, you'd use it with only 4 spades, if you don't, partner would never bypass spades to bid NT. That's really only to show 5-4, not 6-4, so maybe it is better to start with spades and then bid hearts with this. longer suit first, that's most players play. The more you bid second suit, the longer the first (and the second) suit is. As Chuck said, 1H and then 2S/3S, shows 6H-5S, or could be 6-4 in some occasions.
