Not that clear wbartley. 1/3 of the time pd will have CK and high probability you are cold. Similar when NT opener LHO has Kx. When not Kx then nasty guess on second round. RHO will always duck the first round. I think Stephen is right. This is a gambling bid to be ok when vul, not ok when non-vul. Experts will take other things into consideration. Double sounds good. I think most experts use double to show HCP/values and allow partner to act suitably. Thus SUIT-1NT-SAMESUIT(2/3/4 level)-DOUBLE shows values. vrock

GIBBO bidding with 8 HCP opposite 1NT is quite questionable mostly. Here it is stuck. Rule says MUST xfer with 6 clubs. Next rule says no stiff so cant bid a suit. Hoisted on its own petard. vrock

GIBBO's double showed 12 hcp. Has 8 HCP. I almost passed and then said wait a minute. 1. GIBBO's 5H was superfast. 2. My GIBBO does not have more than 2H therefore has hidden clubs. May have D BUT the 5H by opp GIBBO very fast. 3. My GIBBO does not have 5S. So 4S, 2H or less, 7 in cl and diamonds. I sat there and sat there and said enough and bid 5S. I think the GIBug might be: Until explicit fit is found DO NOT assume implicit fit and count "points" for singletons or doubletons. If assume implicit fit MUST HAVE 6+ cards in suit. That should cover it. I have asked the question several times. "points" I read on BBO website 10 years ago are applicable when fit is found. BBO since then, at some point, removed the fit and points statement. vrock

I thought GIBBO made it with strip squeeze and endplay which GIBBO is VERY good at and would do that instead of straight forward h finesse. johnu, could you provide more detail in your play in 6S? bottom line is cash 5S, 4d(with ruff), and evaluate last 4 card position before you cash 6th spade. does not seem automatic as you suggest. In MB sometimes an opponent gets disconnected. Then the deal is I think handed over to some all GIBBO table from the point the opponent went missing. No way can you find out what transpired at the ALL-GIBBO table. At least I don't know of any way. When I looked at this deal later I was livid since declarer has 2 sure losers and yet got 980. But then looking at it further there is a way to make which GIBBO does quite often. Still I would like to know what transpired at the ALL_GIBBO table.
