  1. Technically it's the only way to beat the contract if west has the ♥J and not you, but still weird since west would continue with the jack if he had it.
  2. http://tinyurl.com/nbgz8p5 West GIB led the ace of diamonds and East GIB ruffed just so he could lead a heart from AQJxxx. Even if west does have 8 diamonds to the Ace, there is no point in ruffing.
  3. [hv=pc=n&s=sa653hkqt82dca832&n=skqt742ha6dt93ck6&d=n&v=0&b=1&a=1sp]266|200[/hv] West bids 3♦ if possible. He'll also double an artificial diamond bid. East raises to 4♦ (or 5♦) if possible whenever west bids 3♦ or doubles a diamond bid.
  4. Well, the point of the thread was to justify the decision. Both opponents and partner disagreed with my pass.
  5. Perhaps he meant the double as lead-directing and thought his partner had 6 decent spades (which is impossible). Still clueless though.
  6. For those wondering, partner totally misbid with ♠x ♥AKTxxxx ♦A ♣xxxx and I passed. He made 5.
  7. You're right, this was an oversight on my part. I changed the ♥4 to the ♠4.
  8. [hv=pc=n&s=sa32h32dca2&w=shdcqjt7643&n=s54hak5dac8&e=skqjhqjtdc9]399|300[/hv] NT, north leads. NS need 6 tricks.
  9. [hv=pc=n&n=sak52h6dkq732ckq2&d=s&v=e&b=3&a=3hp]133|200[/hv] Matchpoints, agreed style is light pre-empts
  10. 1♦ 100% of the time, would not dump partner unless he opened anything above 5♦
  11. [hv=pc=n&s=s43haqj3d952caq98&n=sak982ht54dajt6c4&d=n&v=0&b=1&a=1sp2cp2dp2hp3hp4hppp]266|200[/hv] E/W are GIB. Lead is the ♠6. 1. How do you play this? 2. South bids 3NT instead of 4♥ and the lead is the ♣2 to the jack. What's your line now?
  12. I'm glad that you realized that your partner (north) is such a bad bidder. Although a hand where you misbid (as south) may not be a great example of this...
  13. probably 4♣? But I'm not entirely sure that's reasonable.
  14. I'm playing the first board, and all of the passes were alerted instead of the bids.
  15. I pass. I don't like my heart honors on defense and I don't like my spots and distribution on offense.
  16. [hv=pc=n&s=sk76haj95dt8ca863&w=sajt5h8dkqj7542ck&n=s982hqt76da9ct975&e=sq43hk432d63cqj42]399|300[/hv] Every west player was in 3♦. Nobody in the club is particularly an expert or a beginner. At my table, a heart was led to the king and ace, and a heart was returned, which I ruffed. I led a high diamond and, upon winning the ace, north led a spade, letting me take the finesse for an overtrick. This was a bottom board. Everyone else made 11 tricks in a diamond contract, but how can this be?
  17. http://tinyurl.com/ovga9g8 I made 4♠, which ended up being a good result, but without a spade lead I can make 12 tricks in hearts (even with the spade lead I make at least 11 tricks), and it's a much safer strain than spades, where there are several possibilities for being held to 10 tricks. Am I supposed to have at least 3 spades for my raise to 4 hearts? Also check out trick 10.
  18. Because of this post, I am buying the mentioned book. :o
  19. 3♣, over the expected 3♠ or 3♦ I bid 4NT, over 3♥ I'll make whatever slam try I'm given.
